In todays video I will show you a Deadman ball valve. Its a ball valve equipped with a special type of lever that will automatically open or close the valve once you let go of the handle. You can look up all the different reasons why they call it that but I will show you the overall principle of the device.
Their are many different manufactures that make these types of devices. This particular brand manufactures both the valve and spring return handle. They make them in sizes 1/4" to 2" usually before the torque starts getting to high for this type of device to work.

Is it possible to adjust it so that it fails open?
Hai, I was wondering if we can adjust the spring so it's not heavy or if we need to replace the spring with the thinner one? I have 2 spring ball valves size 3/4" and 2" with me, and both are heavy to pull the handle. need your advice. thanks
Thank you for the comment. Without knowing the exact type of spring loaded lever you have it is hard to give advise. I will say if you are having a hard time opening the valve. There are ways to adjust the tension on the spring. Check out 3:37 on the video. You can loosen the lever or like you said replacing the spring with a smaller one. I hope this helps. i need a 1 1/2" ball valve that is consistently ez to open and close. why do some valves be super hard to operate and others same size pressures are ez to operate? thanks..
Thank you very much for the comment. I know what you mean. Your question has many answers but I’ll try give you quick answer.
Typically the smaller valves are a floating style design. They use line pressure to help with sealing. Different manufacturers have different seat designs and materials which will change the torque. That will be the primary reason but there are also other factors. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
