One track day was enough for me to realize that autocross is fun and sims are fun. High speed driving on the track just isn't my thing. But it took actually doing it to find out
Going to an HPDE event and getting all pissed off at the other drivers is pretty bad form. I know it can be frustrating (and yes, the Vette driver was being...difficult), but it is strictly a fun type event with drivers and cars of all different speed levels. I see guys in their 70s at these things, driving $200,000 cars slower than I would drive on my way to the market, and on the other spectrum practicing racing drivers whom I'm sure I have held up on occasion. If it is too slow or frustrating for you, take the next step up to time attack or some other type of racing. I understand the frustration, but if you are going to flip the bird at other drivers who paid their money just like you did, just because you don't like how they drive, IMO you should be kicked out. It isn't supposed to be that kind of event.
This was years ago! And I currently compete in time attack as one of the fastest drivers for the class in the country. Other drivers not knowing the HPDE track rules is the issue. But I appreciate your input!

@@johnshaft5613 yup I bet you this guy has more than road rage issues going on, combined with an ego of the size of Alaska. HPDE is supposed to be enjoyable, and not treated as a Saturday F1 qualifier event “I’m trying to put it on pole, so get out the way.” This video should be renamed “how to be a d!ck while in HPDE.”
Can tell your skill has outgrown the power of the S2K, the slow drivers should be driving your lower HP car and you should be driving something like a Porsche Turbo or Corvette, your skill would really push the best out of them.
In this video (like most complaining) slow, very low torque car that handles very well get's mad at lesser experienced drivers with cars that are clearly faster just not driven to their full extent. Everyone is always shitting on how they are so fast in their 150ft/lb of torque cars and can't understand why a guy isn't as willing to go crazy in the corners with a car with may more power. This ultimately leads to the butthurt of this video where the realization that your car just doesn't have the engine power to overtake a less experienced driver.
You obviously aren't familiar with HPDE etiquette. If you get caught on the track, you're obviously slower overall, despite you having more power. It works out better for BOTH parties if the slower one lets the faster one by, and if necessary because of the faster one's lower power, give him a few turns to put some separation distance between you. In this way, BOTH of you get to concentrate on your laps without interference. In fact most organizations will discuss this during a drivers' meeting, and many will black flag you for doing what that Vette and that Seven did. Repeated offenses may even get you kicked out of the event. If a stock Miata catches me, I let him by and I do NOT just blow back past him on the first available straight. I ease up until he gets a few corners to leave me behind. If I didn't do this, I would rightfully be ashamed of myself. An HPDE is not a race.
@@xtnuser5338 Yup. Organizer for my local HPDE says every driver's meeting "Just because you're in the faster car, it doesn't make you the faster driver. If you have someone on your ass around a corner, he's faster than you and you need to let him by."
must be frustrating being a faster driver in a slower car. Koodos to your driving abilities! Always great to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. But no need to get upset at slower drivers. This is HPDE and everyone drives at their comfortable pace. But giving middle fingers, trying to pass without point bys and intimidating other drivers from behind has no place at an HPDE event. If you were to get involved in a crash with any of the slower cars, you would be 100% at fault! If you have problems with any of the drivers on track, bring it up to event organizers. I hope by now you would have learned being patient and respectful of your fellow drivers on track. We are all out there to be safe, have fun and enjoy our time.

Ok, so explain to me why you keep throwing your hands up here. I’m not a novice. Would consider myself intermediate and it looks like you are driving a good line. Obviously the guy in the corvette is all over the place but when you are on back/front straight your’e flipping the bird at him and the bug eyed sprite when they are pulling away from you. Are you expecting them to give you a point by because you eat them up off the turn?
Always appreciate questions. This was 3 years ago actually. That Corvette was a C7 Z06 on Hoosiers. Should run 2:12s around Sebring yet it was holding me up who at the time, ran 2:28.5s. I ended up pitting and giving him a half a lap and I still caught him by the end of the session. If he had let me get through without blocking me, he never would have seen me again. @@brianwilkins5673 Yes, the rules/etiquette of HPDE is that if somebody catches you, they are faster than you, and you should point them by, and then if necessary due to their lower power, you should ease off for a bit to give them space. He expects them to give him a point by because he is running faster laps overall, despite their ability to outrun him in the straights. I promise you'll love it)
@@MandyReyesDesigns not a dumb question! He should have waited until I got by him. I was so much faster in the corners he would have never seen me again (he was running about 5 to 7 seconds slower a lap than I)
Was it a NASA event?
Correct. Went out in HPDE3 to see how those drivers were. And the 4 drivers were no better. Still put down my fastest lap in the middle of Sunday.
Was this a AARP Convention?
What app are you using that’s showing your lap times?
Hey! Back then I was using Race Chrono on my phone. I have since gone to using an AIM Solo 2 as it's far more accurate and helpful to use!
what timing app do you use?
Back then it was RaceChrono2. I now use an AIM Solo2.
So because you're faster in a few parts of the track (not most) that means everyone should ruin their driving lines, move over to let you pass?
He caught them. That means he's faster overall around the track as an entire unit. And in an HPDE, it means you give the point by and even lift off throttle if you have to let the overall faster guy past you.
I was thinking pretty much the same thing while watching this the guys pissed at everyone around him seems like well he needs to move up because hpde the damn e stands for education fella as in not pro drivers yet as in newbies.
my first time ever ever in hpde one first time on a track in my GT500 the download afterward all the Miata drivers were pissed at me and I'm like God damn my first time ever in HPDE1 Jesus fucking Christ
@John Shaft, really well said. This guy drives like his dad owns the track. I don’t care if it was years ago, or you’re now the fastest guy in your state, you need to learn how to keep your emotion in check. Your decisions making were piss poor, which leads to your driving being horrible. Yes you can be fast, and still be a horrible fast driver.
@@ycharlie5993 Thanks. I sort of wrote OP off when he replied with the "as one of the fastest drivers for the class in the country" comment. He clearly doesn't get it....no one gives a ^%$# how fast he is. HPDE is not a competition...it's OK if experienced guys get a little competitive, and long as they keep the rules in mind, act with restraint, and treat other drivers of all abilities with respect. I would bet OP is a road rager driving to the market as well.
Yep, that's why I don't race 150ft/lb cars anymore, only V8's and turbo cars for me now!
point is money doesnt buy skill start with something not a corvette and learn how to drive so you don't put other faster cars in a dangerous situation
It's always Boomers in Vettes.
Your S2k sounds nice.
How TF do you know anything about who was in the vette? Same thing as me saying you're a punk ass gen Z douche bag ragging on a boomer.
@@MichaelEgan66 Millennial, thank you. I see you've never actually been on a track or a driving road. Good day sir
Is that Vette? If so, understand he probably can't see out the Mirrors! Would never Own one Because! Maybe it's me. Awesome
Did grandpa buy at GT-1 corvette or something? like wtf how is this guy so slow in such a fast car lmao
What's HPDE?
must be frustrating being a faster driver in a slower car.
Was this the event in October?
Decemeber of 2018 actually!
I feel your pain…overpowered cars and under skilled drivers.
S2k 86 and Miata owners felt this video
90’s Honda guys too. My car is quicker than people expect which seems to make them more upset. Especially if they made negative comments publicly about my car. “Oh that junky hatchback? The one you couldn’t pull away from? Yeah that’s mine.”
@@RollingRoadEFI people sleep on Honda heavily bro they’re amazing ! that “junk” is beating you xD
Wow. That was bad. I hope you had a chat with the lead instructor or black flag so they could remind that driver of the point by or to check his mirrors better if this was a DE.
yes. im watching all your videos. man. seems like you and I have the same problem. high hp cars acting all big and mighty on the straightways but slow as fuck in the corners
Horsepower heroes! Smh. Put them in a slower car and they'd be running super slow laps. Oh well. TT griding helps with this
Its always the corvette guys
drive too slow in the corners and then gun it on the straights.
Time to put a cage in it and go racing!
You buying?? Haha
The vette is hitting the brakes in the middle of the turn with acres of room 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video Fk that, Im gonna pass on turns if he does that to me. If you catch someone on the corners they're supposed to let you pass on the straight away 💯
I also went out in DE4 again last week at Sebring. Unfortunately I'm blown away at the lack of speed in that group. Check out that video (was just warming the car up and not pushing yet either)
@@RSXDavo307
I get that you are a better driver but you were flipping the guy off as he was pulling away from you? Also the little bug eyed car too.
The Z06 can only carry the same speed that your 2k can in the turn yet you get mad for him “blocking” you. Once again Im curious did you expect a point by when they’re pulling away?
@@brianwilkins5673 Yes, the rules/etiquette of HPDE is that if somebody catches you, they are faster than you, and you should point them by, and then if necessary due to their lower power, you should ease off for a bit to give them space. After a couple more turns they will leave you behind. Then BOTH parties get to concentrate on their lap without hindrance.

@@brianwilkins5673 I'm a rookie in the sense that I've never raced professionally. But I'm not a rookie in the sense that I became an HPDE instructor in 2010.
You asked, "Are you expecting them to give you a point by because you eat them up off the turn?"
He expects them to give him a point by because he is running faster laps overall, despite their ability to outrun him in the straights. It's pretty standard HPDE etiquette that if someone catches up to you, they're faster, and so you let them by and DON'T drag race them down the straight. Those guys were rookies, as is evidenced by their lines AND their lack of etiquette. If you think they did nothing wrong, YOU'RE a rookie too.
It's just a track day, you're not actually "racing". You can't expect everyone to just get out of your way?

To be fair though just take a drive thru and find some clear track. No point being so close to a land mine.

Then at the end of the day the optimal time is really a measure of how much you learnt or improved and it's still fun. I think we've all been stuck behind a Corvette at some point 😆

Probably people like me who just want to enjoy full throttle without getting a ticket but even I know to point by
That sound tho.. 👌
Dude, just chill. Either drop in the hot pit, or drive a car with higher HP’s. You can’t expect every Vette owner to know how to drive. Matter of fact, expecting a Vette owner to just be some rich lawyer or doctor that knows literally nothing about racing or track day etiquette is more times than not the correct expectation.
Some of these comments are funny. You can't catch cars that lap faster than you. If you're not lapping faster, move over. It's that simple.

Difference is only one of them is breaking the rules.
This was genuinely hard to watch. You'd hope they would have some etiquette but no.

lol s2k's are slow i'd gap it in my Vette, there's way too many vette "racers" driving too much car and unable to use it all on the courses ALWAYS not be though i'd slide that thing sideways at 130mph if i had to, also nobody wants to be behind a turd of a miata or s2k just not fast enough in straights lol,
Your right some people need horsepower to make up for their lack of skill. It's does help make up time on the straights. But then when you you don't have to gumption to hold speed in the turns .. probably best to take yourself to a local drag strip and brag about power.
You have anger issues
Corvette owners. ‘Nough said!
Right?! I drove a C7 Z06 2 weekends ago at Sebring. Amazing what happens when you have another 325whp under your right foot... no idea how a C7 on slicks can be slower than my s2000 (which only ran 28s the weekend this video was taken)
Very un classy video and somebody who knows racing would know. If u want something legit we’ll pay more money and get into a legit league.
It’s part of the game corvette wasn’t that bad
u throwing ur hands up like that and not staying calm is a pure example of no self control. A good driver doesn’t get mad like that.
That’s a bigger track ur not making enough juice to hang man, he was easily passing u, anyone would do that. This is racing, he doesn’t have to open up for u that easily nor does he have to let u pass on the straights or give up his extra power to let u stay ahead on straights.
Its not like he did aything unsafe and the other driver clearly isnt looking and going to see it. He should not be in the same group and did pit so I feel for him. Its the miata issue you can catch people in corners but get dusted on straights
You clearly have no idea what the hell you're talking about and you're one of those people that probably just sells horsepowers the answer for everything. Your response is absolutely ridiculous to me
It was NOT racing. It was HPDE. There are passing rules involved. The Vette broke them over and over.

Where else are they supposed to learn?
Being slow is fine. Being discourteous AND slow is not.
@@RollingRoadEFI if they don't even understand the concept of a racing line then they should be watching videos and getting tuition, not just going out on track and giving it a go by them selves. Fast cars make slow drivers, people should start out in something slow and learn proper car control on the limit before they go out in their corvettes or whatever else. Go learn to drive a kart on the limit and learn racing lines that way.

I will add that there are novice groups at track days for a reason. Just because you have a faster car doesn’t mean you belong in a faster group.

It always amazes me that better drivers at DEs get so pissed off by slower drivers that they document why they should be banned for life.
At many DE organizations, they will black flag you for such behavior, and indeed will kick you out of the event if you are a flagrant repeat offender.
Had nothing to do with being slower, and everything to do with being discourteous.
Disrespect earns disrespect.
@@RollingRoadEFI I'll give some of them the benefit of the doubt, even though I don't really think these drivers deserve it in this case.
SOMETIMES such behavior isn't because the driver is disrespectful. It's simply because they are new and have sensory overload and tunnel vision. They just are so mentally busy that they forget to check their mirrors and listen to sounds. Their brains are tuning out everything except the piece of concrete right in front of them. MOST of them will get more competent/comfortable with a bit of time, and will not act like that anymore.
