  • The day, July 11, 1986. British Airlines Concorde visited Vancouver BC, and did several fly by of the Expo 86 site.
The Concord only was in Vancouver once, for Expo 86, and the Abbotsford Airshow. Shot on 3/4" with a broadcast camera.
See this historic aircraft, and other aircraft of the day in this rare video. See it at the Abbotsford Airshow along with lots of other vintage and not so vintage military aircraft on my other video.

For you vintage aircraft fans, I have a new video to be released soon. Shot the same year this one was shot, while my old friend Gary was shooting these shots of the Concorde at YVR and the Expo site. I was at the Abbotsford Airshow shooting the airshow with my old HVC2800 and SLO340 Beta 1 recorder. Found the tape, and will be putting this one up in it's entirety. The Concorde put on a demonstration this year, the only year it ever came to the west coast. Stay tuned. It will be a long one, as I filmed the entire show. The 25th anniversary of the airshow.

Check out my Abbotsford Airshow from 1986. That is why the Concorde was here (and for Expo). I have the entire airshow up now.

Love it! I was 17 and Expo was the best party Vancouver ever threw. I had a season pass and I remember Concorde that very day! Incredible memories!

I was 23 and also had a season pass. I was there at least 3 times a week for the entire run.

I was just a kid during expo 86. It was an exciting time. Loved Expo Ernie, the McBarge and this crazy water fountain called the UFO H2O. I also remember the Concorde flying over my house in Surrey at the time. Really appreciate the old YVR footage. Seemed we often went there to pick up relatives arriving from England, or even sometimes when we flew there too. CP Air and Pacific Western; haven't seen those in a while.

Love all those vintage airline liveries. CP Air DC-10 and AC L1011. Cool.

Electone_Guy agree, especially the L1011. I flew one to Oahu once. very roomy , smooth, and relatively quiet inside. especially given I was in coach.

I remember it fondly. I used to live on De Haviland Drive in Abbotsford about a mile or so from the airport, as the crow flies. The Concorde flew directly over our house on it's approach. I was napping when the roar woke me in a start and I screamed, not knowing what it was. I'll never forget that.

One of my employees recently did a job at home for a guy who was a Concorde pilot back in the 80s and 90s. My employee said he was showing him a bunch of pictures of famous film stars and musicians he had pictures taken with. We are a plumbing company. Here in Vancouver, BC. My employee said he was a nice old man .

What a great video. Love the Concorde, of course. But also nice to see the CP DC-10, and especially the AC L-1011; which is the first plane I ever flew on.

i remember only little bits and pieces of growing up in Vancouver.. Concorde and the SR-71 Blackbird (different times) at the Abbotsford Airshow, Mt. St. Helens eruption , Expo86, BC Place opening and the Whitecaps winning soccer bowl are the biggest memories i keep to this day... and interestingly enough, if im not wrong, the call from the Concorde was "Speedbird Concorde Alpha Golf..." does that mean it was G-BOAG (alpha golf) that came to vancouver???.......holy moly if that is true, thats the one at the Museum of Flight in Seattle that i have had the priviledge of boarding.. talk about full-circle history!

    • @nopcshere6097
      @nopcshere6097 2 роки тому +1

Never forgot seeing that SR-71 'Blackbird' at Abbotsford. The announcer came on and said, 'the Blackbird has just left (unknown) AFB in California and will be with us in about 30 minutes'. 30 minutes from CA to BC! Then when it arrived you could see it way off in the distance and it only took a few seconds before it went supersonic over the Abbotsford Airport - and wow, what a BANG!!!

I wondered if Concorde ever made it to YVR. Great footage. The city looked a lot different then - I live just a couple of blocks from where the expo footage was filmed. Thanks

That was 1986, the year Expo was in Vancouver, and the Concorde also put on a show at the Abbotsford airshow. I was there that year and filmed the entire show complete with Harrier jump jets, and of course the Concorde. That was the only time I remember it ever coming to this coast.

Cool video! The Concord was always so majestic, shame it's time ended! Dave, can you tell me the technical details if you remember? Camera, tripod head? Quality of the video was fantastic, proper lighting and all....also your blocking, pan/tilt was great! I know how hard it is to...dare I say...shoot airplanes(?) or any moving object in the sky...I've done several shoots my own self.

Pretty sure it was a DXCM3 camera, Miller sticks and a Sony VO4800.I didn't shoot this tape. It was given to me by an old friend that I used to work with. I am pretty sure I have footage on Beta of the Concord when it flew by at the Abbotsford Airshow, in 1986. I was there and saw it in person, and now that I am thinking about it, I am going to search for that tape shot with my shitty single tube Sony.

Very cool, camera did well! I like ENG / EFP cameras, except for the massive weight and massive cost for the Anton Bauers, whilst the vintage camera can be had for next to nothing....was Miller still using wood at that time? For that camera, 100mm bowl maybe? I'd imagine lugging that Sony was like lugging a VW Bug alone! Thanks for the details....told you Ima camera geek!! :) Im sure your Sony did well, will look forward to it!

can tell you the tapes that I have had the most problems with.3M and Ampex. (Ampex used 3M tape) It suffers from "Stciction" Sony and Fuji made good tape.Of course all that stuff is very old now.I don't think any manufacture is still making 3/4" tape except perhaps Sony.

I didn't shoot this footage. I was covering the Abbotsford Airshow, and got my own shots of the Concorde, as well as the Harrier jump jet, and every other plane performing at the airshow. I'll put that one up as soon as I find it.
