Colorado being crowded is an understatement. Not just hunters, tons of folks on the quads and sleds not hunting. Tons of hikers and off-roading too. Also, folks coming out here for OTC, pay attention to the fire regs.
As a Utah resident, I feel Elk hunting in Utah is a camping trip with a tag in your pocket. Archery season in September, the roads are full of ATV's and side by sides. October rifle has a small army out opening weekend. You want to hunt here in Utah. Get on the worst road you can find, then hike 1-2 miles in from there to start hunting. Hunting in Utah gets worse by the year. 10K plus new residents moving in here makes even getting a antler less tag difficult.
This may make you more frustrated, but I am from the east coast and have always dreamed of hunting elk, possibly in Utah. Problem is I am finding it very difficult to find out where to start. I would prefer to archery hunt but I would like some advice from a resident hunter if you have any advice to give
Great info always hard to get that first season draw but over the counter the last 3 seasons help and yes after that first season the elk are harder to find! Thanks for all the tips enjoyed the video!
Thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing your thoughts on some OTC hunts that are still available even though Roosevelt elk in Oregon wasn’t mentioned. Many people especially from the East who only have a week or ten days and don’t want to play the points game take advantage of the OTC elk in Colorado. Nice point on the OTC archery 🏹 pronghorn, they’re in units that don’t have much public land and from what I have heard it would be a good additional hunt to something else, but not by itself. I have a goal to hunt pronghorn in every state that I can DIY public land style and Colorado is on the list. Rifle tags 🏷 would take 10 plus years to get. Thank you for clarifying the Utah Any Bull and Spike only OTC hunt choices. I was mostly confused by the Any Bull, since many of us think of Utah as a long term limited entry plan for elk.
Hey Freddie, thanks for reaching out. We cover those in articles on the website from time to time when it comes to OTC opportunities. And for these videos, we try to cover the states that we get the most requests for. There's a ton of OTC opportunities even beyond the main ones, plus WA & OR. Some of that information we just cover on INSIDER type content. But... we are happy to dive more into these states, especially if you're interesting in learning more about WA and OR!
@@GOHUNT that would be awesome! Seems like they never get any love. When I moved from colorado to washington, there didn’t seem to be a lot info on how to hunt roosies on the youtube community. Much appreciated guys.
Freddie, yes I would really like to hear more about WA and OR. I understand that at for WA the herds aren't as large but they are way less expensive than Idaho and other western states . Thanks for the awesome info keep it up.

Gotta feeling this year is going to be more hunters OTC than ever🤔
Why?
@@ericcartman8457 they said after Covid that more people are hunting so my guess it will continue for a while
@@sheerwillsurvival2064 Ah, makes sense.
@@sheerwillsurvival2064 I was hoping covid killed more people so the outdoors would be mine
