- The wide and beautiful ocean beckons here in Hawai'i. And many answer the call by participating in a sport with deep ties to the history of the Islands: outrigger canoe paddling.
So what better place could there be to hold the World Championships of Outrigger Canoe Paddling? In this video, we visit the 2012 Championships, comprising of two races: one for women and the other for men. - Спорт

Cool! I recently made my first channel crossing, Maui to Lana'i and back, the shortest, most mellow channel in the islands. A voyage, not a race. I cannot imagine paddling Moloka'i to Oahu. And those wipeouts at the start of the women's race were scary to watch. I've been hit by (much smaller) waves, and water has a LOT of weight and power. Very glad (and surprised) that nobody was seriously hurt.

he may also have said "Ho'e pau"which means stop or paqddling finished.our coach used to use this along with "U'a mau kau kau"[Ready]'"Ho'e hapai"raise up your paddle,"Imua"forward,go""Huki"pull,"Inu"turn[for regattas]"Ho'e Ikaika"pull strong and "Ho'e pau"stop,rest.Last,"Huli"when someone lean the wrong way,or?flipping over-no one wants that,lol!Aloha

Great watch ..... when signing off Hoi Pa? I have heard this phrase before not sure if I have the correct spelling and I would like to know more about the translation if anyone can assist? Thanks, Peter
Peter Nieborak He's saying "Hoe pa'a", which means paddle hard. Some people might translate this as "shut up and paddle". See the invaluable ulukau.org/ Hawaiian electronic dictionary for more info.
