- Russia said its troops used the Upyr FPV drones to hit the third Ukrainian US-made Abrams tank near Avdiivka in a week. Russia says the first Abrams was completely destroyed with the use of FPV drone Piranya on February 26 near the village of Berdychi. The second Abrams was also struck by a drone but its crew managed to get out, as per TASS. Russian officials said the US tanks can easily be hit not only by artillery but by FPV drones as well. Meanwhile, Moscow-appointed officials claim that the US tanks were ineffective in Ukraine because they had been stripped of all sensitive technologies.

In Ukraine the one that wins is the one that has more drones and planes in the air and more artillery. Ukraine is just flatlands with flatlands with some more flatlands on top so you can see vehicles from miles away. It's mostly irrelevant what vehicle you have if it gets hit by a 155mm / 152mm shell.

Weakened by decades of sanctions, all that was left of Iraq was the numbers and not the quality, Iraq didn't even have MIC worthy of supporting the 4th largest army. Most of thier equipment was- export versions of the original tech. Much like Ukraine, without the backing of NATO Plus, it would have been long buried. You really can't compare the two wars.

Government institutions and military experts never thought that way, but had a correct vision. More t-80 tanks for Ukraine would quite obviously help their cause. So would superior Abrams tanks.
If properly trained crewmen, (such as the United States) has been there it may have led to less of a disaster. Not saying that none were not to be destroyed just saying that Ukraines positioning and logistics suck

Any tank's armour can be cut through by modern projectiles, it's as simple as that.
they would need better tracks and two more sheets of sloped armor the turrets and lower plates are the weakest points on those Abrahams to make those tanks efficient they would need something to jam those drones from getting close.

Previously soviet Union used to export to middle East countries an downgraded and less capable export version of thier defence equipments resulting in its poor performance in battlefield condition thus earning a bad reputation for soviet defence equipments and now USA, Germany and United Kingdom too seems to replicating it and returning the compliments.

NATO defense ministers stated multipe times that they predict losses, but they ship the tanks because they are indeed better than the current Ukrainian stockpile because they are more survivable. As an American who makes decent money but still lives paycheck to paycheck I guess my tax dollars going to Ukraine isn't so bad because at least it's going to a good cause. All tanks are vulnverable to RPGs hitting the tops of the tank. The big difference between US tanks and Russian tanks is that the crew in American tanks have a good chance of surviving.
Crew training, tactics and supporting elements are more important than armor thickness. For example, Russia has much more EW equipment to jam drone communications than Ukraine.
The different is crew survivability. Russian tank are way smaller and lighter so hit invariably kill the crew, they were called 'SMT' (Soviet Medium Tank) in the 1980s. T-80 weighted 38 ton, M1 weight 60 ton

You are not wrong, but the biggest difference is that the ammo is stored around the base of the turret for the auto loader to access. The rounds surrounds and are fully visible to the commander and gunner. A penetration sets off the ready ammo, generating the fly turret characteristics of Russian tanks.
US tanks has a loader who take individual rounds out of a separate ammo bin (located in the turret bustle) to load the gun. If that is hit, blow out panels direct the blast outside of the tank, rather than inward, keeping the crew safe.

The only real difference between the M1A1 and M1A2 is that the M1A2, gets a better navigation system and gives the commander its own thermal viewer, besides that the armor is basically still the same. The abrams didn't get upgraded armor till the SEP v1 which gave it ERA on the sides of the hull, SEP v2 which put additional ERA on the turret sides ,and finally the SEP v3 which gave it DU ( depleted uranium ) implants in its hull.

The T-55 has not been in service with the Russian army for 50 years. There are a huge number of obsolete T-64s in warehouses. They were going to be disposed of, but as the war in Syria showed. This Tank with modern modifications is very relevant.

1. These are not the most advanced Abrams we have, these are first edition from back-up supplies. Model M1A1 and export models to boot, so they really don't have all the bells and whistles you would have with our own tanks. 2. Really Russia going to brag about 3 tanks over a few weeks when they are losing 5 times that in the same time period? The British Challengers and the German Leopards have also been knocked out as well, so its not just our tanks. 3. No tank exists to combat the new Drone attacks, so it makes sense, we have yet to develop the defense for that, most likely we will by watching to see what happens. Ukraine is the one who pretty much came up with it, not Russian forces. 4. You have crew who have had a few weeks training under their belt crewing these tanks...imagine what would happen if you put a well trained crew in them. 5. How many Russian tanks have those 3 taken out before they were knocked out? 6. War is about attrition, You lose equipment in war....so not surprising this happened. 7. There is no support for those tanks like US doctrine. Our tanks go into the battle field with troop support, air support, and IFV's. Truly, don't understand people and their thinking who are laughing at this. FYI 23 Abrams were destroyed in the Iraq war, almost half by friendly fire. War does knock things out like Abrams tanks. But in a brawl tank to tank which it was designed for back in 1975 to go toe to toe with Russian armor, the Abrams wins hands down...oh yeah, you are talking about a tank designed back in the 70's....were there drones back then? Were there drones back in Iraq? So a tank designed back in 1975, green crew, first version, export version, isn't doing well against a drone attack....Not laughable at all, its just not the right tool for the job over there. Russia likely has over 1000 tanks in the zone of the SMO, and each day roughly 2-3 are destroyed or damaged. that is at most 1/333 each day as opposed to 1/10. Now you tell me whos got the better track record so far. each day 0.35% of active russian tanks are disabled, and each day over 3% of ukrainian abrams are disabled. no matter how you look at its its performing at best nearly 10 times worse.
Also, do not forget that the Russians are able to produce 1,500 tanks per year, while USA produces only 140 tanks per year.
