- The Amerikerbals have built an amped up version of the historic Saturn-V rocket and have set their sights on Duna. Not to be out done the Ruskies have re-purposed their Mun rocket to RACE them to Duna and return their Kerbals safely back home.

I always thought that the launch escape system only flew away once it went into the first stage
Launch escape towers are usually jettisoned after their useful window expires, to save fuel.

Jett Quasar hi man quick question what mods do you use if any
For these videos I'm only using EVE (an old config), camera tools and vessel mover. I also edit in voice tracks from the chatterer mod but it's not loaded on my system.

Yes, I've started using it in my Star Wars videos. I've also made a Laser update for BD armory, it adds a bunch of laser cannons to the mod.

Very good although the Soviet moon rocket was more conical with engine clusters rather than Soyuz style
And did not have a rover

Originally it was going to be a Race to the Moon video but I just did a similar video with my Stratolaunch a few weeks ago so I decided to push the limits.
The russians did initially plan on using a soyuz style moon rocket, but the rocket you're thinking of is the N1

Why are the Russians using the Apollo wheels
Do you even need 5 meter rocket parts to go to the moon? I can build a simplified R7 replica with fused 1x2.5 m and 4x1.25 m engines and it would probably be cheaper too

Leonid Saykin Absolutely not. Mun and back is feasible with just 1.25m parts.
It's completely posible to go to the Mun and back with kerbals on board with 1.25m parts ad even under 18t. To the Moon, I don't know... I don't think it's even possible to orbit with that thin of a rocket IRL.
Jett is not playing with Real Solar System mod, but he is mimicking the style of real life missions and crafts.

You need 2400 dv to lift your rocket straight up at about 60° angle, ditch the ascend stage, then you need 1500 or less to complete the orbit. 900 or less to do Hoffman 300 to orbit the moon +- 100 to perform extra maneuvers. 300 to return from the moon. 800 or less to reduce your reentry speed at 100km pereapsis. 2.8 km/s is just to insane. 30m/s reduce your final pereapsis to 30km
You probably need additional 1600 to land and lift of from the mun. Ditch your fuel tanks and deploy the chutes, you are going to land in about 10 minutes
I suppose if your ship is 2-3 ton drone then 1.25 parts are doable. 2.5 m parts are just easier to handle the amount of gas you need for heavier loads.
2.8km/s is fucking nothing, use an ablative shield. Mun landing plus return is fine with 1200. 3k for orbit of Kerbin if you do it well, 3200 for normal efficiency. Not hard.
