every grisha centered episode is aa 10/10, truly an amazing character
He's like the equivalent of Desmond in LOST in that when he gets a rare episode, it involves time travel or time viewing of some sort, and its an absolute banger.
Filmbuff agrees grisha is one of the truly greatest characters that serve as sort of the center of the plot

In this series of reactions, Suraj is essentially the Attack Titan of the group, knowing what's to come next and leaking small tidbits of information to the others
Zeke throught Grisha brainwashed Eren, but in reality it was Eren who brainwashed Grisha
No one ever points out subtle moments in AOT and act like its all shoe horned and simple. Some of the ending can be explained, with a scene in this episode. Notice how in the flashback with the scarf, eren we see his perspective from afar and he's blushing looking at misaka. He finally notices he has feelings for her. Last time the POV was from misaka and he seemed cold and heroic...for obvious reasons.
That scene with Grisha and Zeke might be the best moment in the dub. Legit almost made me tear up

Truiy a shame since specifically in this episode and every single episode Grisha is in has best perforamnce ive ever heard. Seriously, he truly owns Grishas voice and this epsiode is just solidifed his placing as the greatest VA in the industry for me. His breakdown was so real and beautiful that it actually made me tear up.
Yuki Kaji as Eren, Koyasu as Zeke and so many more are also on his level, just not at that pinnacle, yet still Oscar worthy.
Theres a reason Yuki Kaji won best voice actor in this years Crunchyroll awards and he very much deserves, tough, cuz he plays the MC of course amazing side characters like Grisha get overlooked.

Hey Suraj, tell Nikki that the reason Zeke snitched was bcuz the Eldian restoration movement was already basically compromised and in due time he, his parents and grandparents would've been punished. Zeke snitching kept atleast him and his grandparents alive. If I was 12 y/os however old he was, I would've been scared too as well as listen to this father figure that cared for me more than my own father.

Ohk, so Ill try to clear this up for you guys. Eren had seen how things played out at the chapel when he kissed historia's hand..but he didnt know most of the things like how he would end up there. He didnt know that his head would be blown. He didnt know zeke was the one who could order ymir and not him. When eren and zeke are in memories, zeke is the one guiding Erem like lets go to this memory and that memory, but in the basement when grisha senses zeke, Eren realised he could influence those things because grisha did see zeke but through the eyes of Eren (The time travelling works here like..its not like eren exists there..eren's eyes are grisha's eyes. Eren allowed grisha to interact with zeke in the end because he was looking right at him) Also Attack titan cant control other titans(thats the power of founding titan which eren has so attack titan's only realy ability is to see future inheritor's memories.

Eren did what Bran should have done in Game of Thrones. Readers were made to think Grisha manipulated Eren when actually it turns out to be the opposite. Eren the orchestrator setting off chains of events.
Man are they trolling on purpose? He turned them in because they were about to be found out anyways. They explained how Marley was aware of and eldian revoultion group. By turning them in he could save himself and his grandparents. Just use you brain guys come on
The music is constantly astounding.
NO SPOILERS AHEAD
Eren can't see memories from himself directly. This is why he didn't know his head was going to get shot off. Current time Eren doesn't know ALL of what's going to happen in the future. The Attack Titan can see the memories of FUTURE INHERITORS that are chosen to be sent back to them. Current time Eren sent select memories back to Grisha at different points in time to either guide/control/encourage him along the "correct" path, and then he was able to view his Father's memories of RECIEIVING those memories when he kissed Historia's hand. But as we know from other time travel shows and movies, if Eren showed Grisha the entire future with full context, Grisha may have never did what he was "supposed" to do, thus he only showed him pieces here and there -- enough to keep him going, but not enough to make him doubt if what he was doing was right (or at least not until this episode...haha...). This means that our current Eren only knows PIECES of the future because he only showed his father pieces of the future. I know that's a bit confusing lol, but that's how it works.
Edit: Also, it's crazy to me that Pat's immediate response to Grisha telling Zeke that he has to stop Eren was "NAH!!" lolololol. As someone who doesn't even fault Eren for what he decides to do later on, I remember at this point in the story everything fell apart for me. I feel like a part of the gravity of experiencing this episode as a viewer is realizing that Eren, this dude who you've probably been supporting the entire time (even through some questionably immoral (but necessary) decisions), might in fact be the actual villain that you've been trying to deny him being the whole time.

A couple things pretty much everyone misses:
-When a member of the royal family's eyes turn purple, they are no longer in control. That's the King in the walls speaking through them.
-The Attack Titan cannot control other Titans. That's the Founding Titan. Eren has always been crazy strong because he has both, but he still could only use the Founding Titan when he touches someone with royal blood. That's why this whole string of episodes are able to happen, Eren's head is in Zeke's hand.
Yeah zeke turned his father in, but griesha was extremely abusive. Zeke basically never experienced love from him, so I feel like there should be a little more sympathy. Even if grieshq was fully in the right, he should've let zeke have his childhood and not force his ideology on him.
I mean they were also basically onto him and it didn't seem like they could've done much, ironically enough I think zeke saved the entire plan unknowingly

I think the Attack Titan does not know everything in the past or the future but they can share the memories to whoever holds the Attack Titan's power. And in Season 1, Eren was not even aware that he had the Attack Titan. The titan shifters lose their memories when they eat one of the nine.
In Zeke's defense, his father used him and wanted him to inherit a titan which would've cut his lifespan down to 13 years all for the sake of Eldia. He never spent time with him as a father and the pressure he put on his on child was immense.

Lol Eren didn't "help" Grisha. He forced his hand. One very cool detail you may not have noticed is the geese flying overhead as Grisha was heading to the Reiss compound. They're the ones that flew away from the original attack by Berthold and Reiner. By the time he went to seize the Founder's powers, Carla was already dead. Eren didn't show him her death specifically because he would've lost the will far too early otherwise. Grisha isn't a particularly strong-willed man after all.
Just remember what Grisha said about "why won't you show me if Carla makes it" or "will the city still be safe?" Eren (this adult version) picks and chooses what to show to the previous attack titans in exactly the way he wants in order to get a desired outcome. This goes for him as a kid as well. He would have been caught off guard by a lot of events growing up because his future self felt like that wouldn't benefit his plan. Eren's a total scumbag in my book (or at least adult Eren after he made up his mind to go along with his future plan).
took me a rewatch to notice zeek looks like the king, but i held off watching the rest up until yall got to this part of the season
I don't think Grisha could see Eren, but could see what Eren is seeing so that means he's seeing Zeke because Eren is looking at Zeke(allowing him to see him), and when he was look towards Eren, he was seeing himself trough Eren eyes.
When he kissed Historia's hand, he didn't see this would happen. he just saw his future memory.
Why do people forget that Grisha literally said he didn't think of Zeke as his son only a child of royal blood

The big question is how far did Eren went back to influence the other previous Attack Titan holder.
Because the Owl was also influenced by Eren's memories (the Mikasa and Armin memory thing), which means every decision the Owl made was Eren's doing.
Grisha once ask the Owl, "Why am I the only one you kept alive?!" And we never did got a straight answer from the Owl.
The Owl only said, "I did it all to serve Eldia. Grisha, I'm entrusting you with my final mission, you and not anyone else"
Which is madness when we think about it because this would means that Eren could've been carved the path for the past to follow by influencing each of the previous AT holder all along.

18:34 it sorta like how dr. strange saw all the possibilities for them to win in infinity war, but there was only one. eren probably only saw glimpses of future memories and possibly saw that his head was gonna get popped off but that may have been his only way to come in contact with zeke.

Nikki’s reaction is what you hope for when watching reactions to your favorite shows
This should've been answered for any sub watchers/ or M readers, but when he tears his own wrist off, its clear he only sees/understands fragments of the non linear reality he lives.
It doesnt even make sense to us but its insane that Ise-sama was able to make it digestible for audiences. Anything that has to deal with time lines can never be completely understood since we can strictly fathom time in a line (Forward - backward) but he did a really good job of conveying the reality of Eren.. thrusted into a concept where time isnt just forward/backward, its nebluous or I guess like a globe. That doesnt even do it justice but its amazing he tied this ALONG an amazing story as well. Betrayal, heart break, sorrow, grief, hope, acceptance, politics, etc. all in one but amazing at the same time. Its exactly how life is in general.

@12:50 no, the Attack Titan cannot control mindless Titans. The reason Eren was able to control the Titans in the finale of season 2 was because he was in contact with Grisha’s first wife, Dina Fritz, who was a Titan too at that point.
Any attempt after by Eren to try and control Titans did not work. Only the following Titans have some form of control over mindless Titans:
- Founding Titan with a user that has royal blood
- Female Titan, can call mindless Titans with her scream, not really control them
- Beast Titan, only if people are somehow injected with Zeke’s spinal fluid and Zeke then screams
The Attack Titan only gets memories, from the past or future, and the ability to withstand the Founding Titan.

I was curious about the origins of the nine, was that ever explained? Like each eventually became the nine all with some unique ability but how did it start after the founder
Eren discovers he was able to send messages to Grisha when Grisha was asleep at his desk in the basement. Eren leans over and looks at the photo of Zeke and Dina which causes Grisha to start dreaming about Zeke. Then Eren looks at Zeke which Grisha wakes up and looks in the same direction for a moment while Zeke is there, then Eren looks away which is when Grisha starts looking around, because he cant see Zeke anymore.
During the Season1Episode1 part Grisha is looking directly at Eren in the basement when he is packing up his equipment, which is the first hint on that day that he has to go do it now. Then Kid Eren gives him the speech about what Kid Eren thinks of the outside world which when you listen to that speech with Grisha's knowledge of Marley, Kruger's mission, etc then it sounds very very different. Eren talks about not giving up on the outside world. Grisha hears it and accepts the message. Then when he gets up and stands in the doorway holding the key, he is staring directly at Adult Eren.
In the Crystal Chapel Grisha can feel Eren's anger bubbling over without even seeing him, causing him to look over in Eren's direction.
In each moment that Grisha is able to actually see Zeke it is because he is witnessing Eren's memory of that exact moment, in that exact moment. This effectively means Grisha is viewing his own real time existence from both his own AND Eren's perspectives simultaneously, which is what allows him to see Zeke. Its not made as clear in the anime as in the manga, but the only times Grisha sees Zeke is when Eren is standing away looking directly at both of them, which gives Grisha the additional layer of vision of that real time moment where Zeke is standing there in front of him.
So basically how it works is all the 9 Titans are able to inherent memories from their previous owners (seemingly the most recent owner more so than earlier owners in the case of Porco seeing Ymir's memories but not being able to see Marcel's until Reiner gave him to a nudge). This means that Young Eren is able to see memories from Grisha, which is how he got all the hints at the basement in season 1-3, as well as the books in the basement unlocking Grisha's childhood and Marley memories at the end of season 3.
The Attack Titan however also can send memories back to its previous owners in small glimpses, which is how Kruger knew to tell Grisha to save Mikasa and Armin without knowing whos memory that was or even who those names belonged to since neither was yet born at that moment.
Adult Eren cannot send memories directly back to Young Eren however, because he can only send memories to the previous owners, not his younger self.
That's where Zeke comes in. Eren was brought into Grisha's memories to witness them himself. This effectively means he can leave messages for his younger self by giving memories to Grisha which get given back to his younger self at a later date. Without access to the past its not possible for Eren to send specific important messages to specific dates in order to direct the path of history, but Zeke didn't know any of this and so him trying to help convince Eren actually ends up allowing Eren to complete the loop.
Young Eren however only had the memories that Adult Eren had given to Grisha, which as we saw when Grisha was yelling at the heavens was not all of them. Young Eren was only given enough information to make sure he would end up following the right path, but not enough to risk him trying to change what was going to happen. Adult Eren never told Grisha that Carla had died that same day, because by the time Grisha rides back to Trost to find Eren and give him the Attack/Founding Titans, Young Eren has to tell him that Carla has already died. Grisha wanted to know, but Adult Eren withheld the info in order to spur Grisha on to complete the mission he very clearly did not want to do.
Adult Eren did however show Grisha of a memory from a time much further in the future than this moment, one where Eren had succeeded in restoring Eldia, and of the cost the world would pay for it.
This is why Eren looks resigned to his fate, defeated and depressed during most of season 4 and the last 2 episodes of season 3. He has already seen some events, including ones he doesnt like, but not enough of the future that would potentially allow him to change it. He doesnt know how he gets to that end point, just that he knows he DOES get there. This is why Gabbi decapitating him was a surprise, and why he was caught off guard when Ymir didnt obey him in the paths.

The moral of the story is... *_everybody_* has a choice, for better or worse.
And this is what worse looks like.
This episode is a perfect example of why they dub takes the dub against the sub here for AoT!
The revelation that not only can the attack titan see the future, and therefore Eren knows what is going to happen, but that Eren can choose what memories to show to the previous holders. Which means that Future Eren can withhold knowledge from Present Eren if he wanted to, to make sure his plan goes the way he wants. He probably is.
it’s not time travel, the attack titan has the ability to feed glimpses of its own memories back to former hosts, so in the moments that eren and zeke are with grisha, grisha can not actually hear, touch, or see them, Eren was sending glimpses of his own memories to his father. If you notice everytime he acknowledges zeke being there Eren is looking right at Zeke. Grisha is seeing Eren’s memories of seeing his own memories, basically Eren is choosing to show Grisha the memories he has of being inside of grisha’s memories, so everything grisha is seeing/hearing from zeke or Eren he’s seeing from Eren’s point of view

The attack titan cant control other dumb titans, its the founding titan that is doing that. I believe the only time he was able to do so is because he touched Dina, who is royal blood. Zeke can do it also because he is royal blood

To explain the "time travel" visions: The Attack Titan has the ability to send glimpses of events in the future to Attack Titan holders of the past. This means that when past-Eren kissed Historia's hand he only saw glimpses that Future-Eren sent him. He saw Future-Eren going through Grisha's memories and convincing Grisha to kill the Reiss family. He didn't know the future entirely so I dont think he was pulling the strings all along necessarily. He just knew that he would wind up in Grisha's memories with Zeke but he didn't know how he would influence Grisha. Then he saw Grisha notice Zeke, which meant Grisha briefly saw Future-Eren's POV of Zeke. That's when he realized how he was going to use the future-memory power. When the time came, he used the Attack Titan power to send his POV of himself speaking to Grisha like a timey-wimey livestream. So during that whole sequence, Grisha was looking at himself and Zeke through Future-Eren's eyes. A complete mind-fuck LOL

THE RUMBLING
Time travel is not a thing in AoT. Only the memories and will to act travel. Zeke and eren were there the entire time, but grisha saw Zeke only twice. One was when he was in the basement and the other was outside the cave. Again, it's the memories. Grisha saw everything from eren's pov. The reason being eren was standing behind grisha and looking at Zeke on those two occasions. That's why grisha was able to see zeke only on those two occasions. Another thing, grisha never saw future eren, he just felt his presence. In the 🗝️ scene when grisha is looking at future eren, he's basically looking at himself in 3rd person. Also in the cave grisha felt eren's angry presence behind him. Grisha was literally being watched by eren all along and grisha knew this. Lastly, attack titan can see the future is a very oversimplified explanation. Actually it's the memories sent by eren to the past that makes Attack Titans see the future. Same happened when eren passed the memories to Kruger (the owl) when se said "you have to save Mikasa and Armin" to grisha. Eren IS the Attack Titan. Eren made the attack titan the way it is. He sent memories and the will to act in order to manipulate past holders into doing his bidding. The characteristic of the Attack Titan to keep moving forward and seek freedom is literally Eren's characteristic. Eren manipulated all past users to keep moving forward and act the way he wants just so he could reach this point. The point being the moment grisha takes the founder from frieda. The attack titan fights against the self righteousness of the king. Eren did all this manipulation for this exact moment where grisha would take the founder from the royal family and give it to him.
Finally, You may think how grisha touched Zeke. It's just that he was hugging the space where zeke was standing. In real time.if anyone had seen grisha would have thought grisha is just hugging air. That scene symbolises a "fake" hug or a "hollow" hug symbolising it's too late for grisha to redeem himself as zeke's father.
It's crazy to think that Eren dying and Zeke trying to help Eren see how he got brainwashed made it possible to convince Grisha to kill the Reis family in the first place.
The attack titan can't control other titans. Eren was only able to do that because at the time he had the founder and was in contact with Dina Fritz at the moment so was able to use the full power for a second

Ok there there is a thing that i'm confused about , if Grisha really didn't want Eren to do what he was going to do (the rumbling and genocide) then why didn't he like not give that attack titan to Eren ?! He could have just kept the titan to himself , was it because he didn't want his family and friends to die ? Altho he didn't even see the titans breach the wall so he could not have known for sure , can sombody explain
