Please, Pioneers, come back to the front lines! We need you to represent the pure unvarnished gospel of Jesus! The church has been compromised in our time and we need you for such a time as this! God is not with you! The gifts of God, or without repentance! Please come back, white hair, and whatever! We need the wisdom of white hair as the scriptures say! Please come back! 💖🇺🇸

I never met any of these servants of God personally, but God used them and their music to drive me to Him. Can't put it any other way other than it was a work of the Holy Spirit. It literally changed the direction of my life.

I wasn’t a hippie looking for Jesus. I’d had Jesus since I was 3 years old. God gave me visions when I was 4 years old. Which is to say I knew God. I was being grounded in the Word. So why did I need your music? Because I could learn about Jesus from you what I didn’t learn from the church I had to attend. I had had a rough time, and from your music I received encouragement and forgiveness and my faith was built up. Thank ya’ll so much for being there.

I was born and raised in Southern California but when I graduated from HS, I headed to Oregon to attend a Bible College, so I wasn't there when all of this took place. I'm thankful that God kept me out of drugs and alcohol even though I was a teen in the 60s. Many of the artists in these videos were such a blessing to me and I will forever be grateful for them and their songs. Thank God for each one of you!! We need a fresh move on God's Spirit today. Please, Lord, send your Spirit to revive our hearts and minds and give us a fresh touch of your love and compassion for others.

I'm in Oregon now and am so very lonely b people are not friendly like in Socal at all. I will start chit chating and they look at you like why are you talking to them? They don't know you, I've been going to a Calvary chapel for 8 years now and not one person has ever asked me to get together after church for lunch or get together any time to hang out or watch a movie or do a Bible study or play any games or go out to eat. Nothing. I offer to do this or that at church but they always say that they don't have any need for me to just relax and let them serve me. I never heard of anything like that. A church has nothing for anyone to do? So there's no pot lucks or game nights or movie nighs or dinners or singles or anything. So for 8 years I go and leave. Still don't know very many people. I approach people to chat and then they say good bye.
What is wrong with people up here being so antisocial? I'm high energy and free spirited so people liked putting me down with critical downing statements. In Santa Barbara there are so many people who are Otc or add or ADHD and they are very open about it. They will talk to people and in conversations share how " wow I'm having an Otc day bad. So I'm going into my office guys so you're on your own. I have to go behind my office door." It was so cool to hear people be so open and honest and people not caring or judging them. It helped me to feel comfortable to share that I recently learned that I was ADHD and started medicine and for the first time in my life I can focus! People were. So happy for me. You share stuff like that up here and people look at you like you are really adnormal and belong in a mental hospital and they avoid you and you have no friends and talk behind your back.. in socal I had so many friends and did all sorts of volunteering at my churches for 45 years. Now in Oregon no one needs me or wants me to do anything. I'm very studied in the bible but whenever I share anything "I don't know anything" but in CA or Wa people enjoyed listening to what I taught. What is the deal up here? I'm 62 and on SS in a travel trailer without a truck so I feel like I'm stuck. Having to stay here. 8 years and so unhappy.

Had the pleasure of being involved with Christian concert promoters ‘Moses and Aaron Productions’ in N. E. Ohio in the mid to late 70’s (hope you are well Jeff and Maria) and had the opportunity to meet many of these folks and rub shoulders with them before and after their performances. I will be positive (there were some not-so-nice encounters with performers) and say from my experience Second Chapter of Acts (all of them and Buck Herring), Phil Keaggy (nothing of him as a pioneer of what’s now called CCM…???), Barry McGuire and Larry Norman (as already mentioned, the father of CCM is strangely absent in this history of Jesus Music) stand out for being as genuine off stage as on. There were others that could be included as well, but in these folks I saw genuine, unpretentious people sharing God’s love through their music. Great memories.

about 1:23:00 and on - Honeytree - Pioneer-
I think this was the theme song for all there. It went to the heart and brought the tears. They all had been pioneers, misunderstood, unsupported by the mainstream- yet closer to the Father than their critics. Its a lonely road sometimes. The song Hittin' the Road - comes to mind. Jesus was moving back then....I saw these bands. To be honest, almost all Christian bands were "junior hosts" of God's presence.
Keith at times was a senior host and consistently 2nd Chapter of Acts(no doubt there were others, maybe). I believe Randy Stonehill was on his 3rd wife here Larry Norman also...I'm not knocking these guys and other bands.......it's just the truth....they do have the testimony of Jesus Christ for sure!
Next move will be more pure and honest....even raw..Lonnie Frisbee could be raw (deeply honest), and he messed up royally...yet the Lord moved so wonderfully back then.....as if "the land was married"......you could see Him almost everywhere!

I remember those those early days. Believed Christians were sincere pretty much. Had no idea how hateful and unloving the church was, full of false accusation (as an excuse to not love) and ego. I had a lot of materials on speaking Spanish I was willing to give her because she wanted to be a missionary but she wouldn’t trust me enough to pick them up from me as if I might rape her or something. It crushed me that that evil was thought of me. She never picked it up. I was sold out to Jesus and a virgin. Finally, I just was honest and curious enough to ask her “know does it feel to be a servant of Satan? “ after a service. I saw her talking to a women and she had tears in her eyes because of what I had said but unfortunately she never repented and threw it all in the garbage.

Yep. Leon Patillo and Larnelle Harris would have been a great addition. We don’t know who all was invited that didn’t go.

Leon Patillo didn’t start recording Christian music until 1979. Larnelle Harris started a bit earlier but wasn’t as big at the time. Walter Hawkins might have been the only other candidate, starting mid-1970s. But Andrae Crouch predates them all, first recording in 1968, so it seems he may have been the only one to qualify from the years that are the focus of this documentary.

Wonderful. Can anyone explain why Larry Norman is not even mentioned? It is a very awkward omission. It had to be a decision. There has to be a reason for it. anyone here know why?

Larry was in poor health at this time. He may have not been able to attend.

I'm sorry, but featuring the birth of the Jesus movement and completely neglecting any mention of Larry Norman is inexcusable.

Honeytree's Pioneer... 'Bigger and better and faster' ... Maybe bigger and faster, Certainly Not Better! Sad how little of the modern 'Christian music' is descent, real, anointed ministry 😢
