I knew something was off, I thought of the difference between wood and stone (besides appearance) and I knew. It was the fact that wood gets triggered with items, unlike stone, which is only mobs.
Only wooden plates activate when an item is thrown

If Mumbo Jumbo made a base on that server he would just make his ultimate combination lock that he did in an older video.
Maybe try breaking blocks less, so it feels like the traps are actually something that can harm you.
