  • Møn was our fist stop in Denmark, and what a good one it turned out to be!
UNESCO designated Møn as Denmark's first biosphere reserve, consisting of "a series of islands and islets in the southern Baltic Sea, over approximately 45,118 hectares. Its landscapes include woodlands, grasslands, meadows, wetlands, coastal areas, ponds and steep hills.
Møn is known for its natural environment, sandy beaches, fresco-decorated churches, Stone Age and Bronze Age passage graves and monuments, and Møns Klint ("The White Cliffs of Møn"), the island's most popular attraction. The beach and steps descending from the 100 m cliffs of Møns Klint. The cliffs, c. 6 km long and up to 128 metres tall, are Denmark's highest, and support a unique set of natural habitats. Access to the narrow beach is via a flight of 500 steps from the parking area set within the beech forest behind the cliffs. The GeoCenter Møns Klint, a geological museum tracing the origins of Denmark and the formation of the cliffs opened there in May 2007. The combination of chalk in the subsoil with a dry local climate, and its agricultural use consisting primarily of cattle grazing, has created some of Denmark's richest meadowlands. The chalk was transported to Møn during the fourth, and most recent, major ice age.
    ABOUT US:
Hi! We're Andre & Lisa! Full time travellers and nomads since 2018.
This was not an overnight decision. It was a goal we worked towards for 2 decades. We have always prioritised travel as a way to satisfy our most basic curiosity - to depart from regular life into something new, even if only briefly, before returning to ‘normality’. Normality, however, is subjective and when you travel to unfamiliar places, you lose your grounding, your bearings - it challenges everything you consider ‘normal’ about life. Everything is unordinary. Everything is important. Everything requires your attention. You understand that because you have no home, every place can equally be your home. More importantly, time is of the essence.
You can find our blog at www.wewillnomad.com where we post regularly about the destinations we visit along with travel tips and what we spend on travelling.

I think you guys would really love Fuerteventura. It is everything but green, but as a Dane I feel completely at home with the ocean, sandy beachers, the wind, the chill atmosphere and the lack of crowds. It's a kitesurfers paradise.

Nice little road trip through, maybe next time you'll have time for a little detour to Skagen. Those shelters are such an overlooked gem, we have them across the country and everyone from students to pensioners on fishing trips will make use of them.

Denmark has been a bit of a surprise (well, at least the part we saw!). Everything felt 'relaxed' and it was so tempting to just stay there 😄

The Danishes in Denmark is actually called Wienerbrød ,bread from vienna..back in the 1850' the bakers in denmark went on a strike, so the owners of the bakeries had to import foreign workers, and amongst them were bakers from Vienna, and they brought recipies, unknown to us Denmark

The first thing we learned. 😁 The people of Denmark are Danes and Danishes are Wienerbrod. Never use Danish as a noun 😁

Next time you come to Denmark in summer I recommend you visit the northern Jutland West part of Denmark. Here we have Sandy beaches and nature a little more different that you have seen on this trip.. Fx. Cold Hawaii...surfers paradise, kite festival, sandcastle park, viking museums, the sandhed church, Skagen were 2 seas meet, the typical Skagen painters and their art, bunkers from 2 world war, fishermen who have their boats up on the beach, fresh fish....alot more.

It is strange, stumbling upon someone on UA-cam, passing by the place I grew up.
You where right about that initial stop by the bridge. Luckily there are many hidden gems, when you get away from the highways. And they can even be guaranteed safe, if you are willing to pay.
But what you might not know, is that the beach by that initial stop is well liked by kitesurfers. And if you dare risk the sand, easy parking for un/loading. You have a beach facing northwest, and one facing southeast. So wind direction almost doesn't matter. As long as it is windy. And the beach is cleared of seaweed regularly by a local.
Personally, the best vacation time I've had in this country, was when nothing was planned, and time was spent exploring smaller lesser used roads. There are surprisingly many views, querky houses and creative "art" pieces hidden away.

Hi! Thank you for your insightful comment. 😎 One of the reasons we wanted to go past that section of Farø was exactly because we had it marked as a kitesurfing spot! Sadly there was just not enough wind on the day. But we just fell in love with Denmark and will be back for sure.
