We had two olive eggars raise 7 chicks this summer and they are 8 weeks and all doing well. We did keep them all locked in a brooder in the coop for the first week, then opened it up. The two mamas co parented them and it was so sweet to watch. We gave two away to a neighbor ( one was an obvious roo due to him having a comb and the start of waddles at two weeks!). I have a lil banty polish that would constantly sit on eggs. No roo roo so eggs not possible to hatch. I got some banty polish from Atwoods and one bit one reached under her with a chick and snuck out a few eggs. She is now the proud mama of the cutest lil polish bantys.

Have you evert seen hens fly to a roost whule holding a chick. One of mine sleeps in an old elevated rabbit pen. Was looking for it one night and found under the hen safe and sound. Started doing every night. No idea how she does it

Hi there! Is it normal for the broody hen with the chicks to cry because she wants to go back into her regular coop when it’s time for bed? I had a broody enclosure set up for her and the chicks but she saw the other hens going into the main coop and she kept trying to get out to do the same
