The only problem for your star finder is that it can be used in a certain latitude, not everywhere. I remember in the merchant navy, 50 years ago, you had to change the disk, when the latitude of the ship was different. At this time only the sextant was used to find where you were...and the eye around the coast. Anyway, it is much more beautiful than the transparent disk I used, which could be reversed from north to south of course. Thanks
jean-Pierre Gahagnon Thanks for your interest! Of course, a mariner would need multiple disks to navigate the globe. Luckily, most of Canada’s population lives not far from the design latitude, so we are fortunate that “one size fits all.” It certainly makes it cheap enough to make that we can literally give them away!
I believe this star finder is for people residing in the northern hemisphere, I don't think this star finder is meant for people observing along the equator or southern hemisphere. Would this work for people residing close to the equator? ...or is there a different star finder template for them?
Hi there, dumb question but if I'm looking at the southern horizon, I would be facing south? I got a telescope for Christmas and am trying to figure everything out. Thanks!
Exactly. The dome of the sky is represented on the flat star finder, so a little manipulation is needed. What ever cardinal direction you are facing in reality, you need to rotate the StarFinder so that direction is at the bottom.
As a board member of RASC Hamilton centre I say great job Andrea and Halifax RASC.
As a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo RASC, we all say hello and thank you.
Best tutorial. Excellent. Congrats.
Thanks for creating this how-to video. Ed Mizzi, Hamilton Centre RASC
I love the low design roll off roof observatory. I'll be building something like that soon on my side of NS, I think.

i love a history lesson!

I'm not aware of a physical device off-hand, but this might help regardless of your location. skyandtelescope.org/observing/interactive-sky-chart/
Great tutorial! Thanks!

I in fact came here to find out how to use, my starfinder of my telescope. you know that minitelescope ! Did not find it here yet. Bright skies!
Thanks for stopping by! Try searching YT for the words ”finder telescope.”
@@RASCHalifax thank you so much. I did and now I get it 👍
I’m just trying to find something with my grandma

i live in the phillippines where to buy.
Look online under planisphere
You should also get one more suited to your latitude.
Just more proof of a Flat, Non-Rotating and Stationary Earth.
LOL, Smh!
