I wanna give her a hug . She won’t even open her eyes cuz she doesn’t care to see the reactions of others,. All that that mattered was how her heart was aching
The string pulled on that base when Frank said “And WHAT A GIRL”. It sounded so sultry. I’ve always associated Ella’s voice with the jazz base; they go amazingly together.
Yes she was blessed with perfect pitch or as some call it ' absolute pitch ' A few singers have it ,or had it,Jack Jones, Nate king Cole, Buddy Greco ,Vera Lynne , Vic Damone ,Ella and guitarist Joe Pass .He did an album with Ella and it came to discussing keys and Joe Pass said," Just start singing and I'll know what key you're in " Lucky Joe and Lucky Ella .I think I have got Van Gogh 's ear for music, the one he cut off ! !! ( is that how you spell Van Gogh ? )
What?! No!! That's everything but elegant. It is clumsy and lazy. Ella didn't even take the time to actually understand what the lyrics actually tries to convey. She should have been ashamed of her self, knowing what she was and what she became. She used to be great.
My heart is sad and lonely For you I sigh, for you dear only Why haven't you seen it? I'm all for you, body and soul I spend my days in longing And wondering why it's me you're wronging I tell you, I mean it I'm all for you, body and soul I can't believe it, it's hard to conceive it That you'd turn away romance Are you pretending it looks like the ending Unless, I could have one more chance to prove dear My life a wreck you're making You know I'm yours for just the taking I'd gladly surrender Myself to you, body and soul.
Despite being a topnotch singer and being known as the “first lady of music”, she remain humble. ❤️ She loves to talk, she loves to give chances to people who wants to have a duet with her. I love you Ella. I may not born during your time, but I have youtube to watch some of your performances.
Humble? She became so arrogant that she became a fucking parody of her self. She became lazy, knowing that people only came to listen to her voice and her shitty scat performances. I bet she thought of her self as the first lady of music, but she was called the first lady of jazz. If you want to hear some great Ella Fitzgerald then you should listen to her earlier work. When she still loved singing and you could hear it in her voice:
Electro-Cute are u kidding me everything u said was false she continued to try new genres in her later years she didn’t get lazy she just wasn’t trained and said she felt like she reached a her fullest reachable potential because of that. She was shy aswell and got nervous every time she went onstage do more research
If you know anything about Ella , she was never lazy that is such an insult you didn't know her personally, and also she was fighting diabetes, at a time when the medication was not great!! she had to have her legs amputated and she lost her sight, she still had soul to the very end , I would never criticize any singer that puts themselves out there! you're an insult to the craft!
Pure genius that Ella. A master at phrasing, delivery, emoting, all of the above and more. This lady had deep, deep soul. We're fortunate to have this recording, and I've been enjoying this dvd (Frank Sinatra: The Man And His Music + Ella + Jobim... a must-buy) for over a decade now. It's a flawless show from top to bottom.
I absolutely LOVE this music and these two performers Frank and Ella are simply wonderful!!! We don't have anyone today who is so REAL. I LOVE them both and followed their music since I was 12. I'm now 70.
Meh, she ruins the A parts with scat and sings the B part wrong. You know like how you would do if you do not know how to turn of your artificial emotions. You could expect a job like that should inspire more enthusiasm, expect her to analyze the song at least, but no. Ella Fitzgerald was great at her early days, just like Frank Sinatra. That was before they became parodies of them selves. Ella Fitzgerald used to scat as a way of expressing emotion that where deeper than what her lyrics could express. She didn't force it nor did she overdo it. She used only when it was suitable. She was a true master of scat in that sense. Anyone can scat fast for hours, but it requires something extra to know how to inspire feelings trough scat song. Frank Sinatra used to sing with passion. His artistic pauses where then an inherent part of his way of singing. Nothing forced, or over used. The length of the pauses depended on what they where used for. It could be the common short pauses that existed between most words to make each word ring by them selves. He would then switch to not using these pauses to enhance to feeling that comes with legato, which often is overused in jazz song. Some times he would intentionally introduce slightly longer pauses to enhance the feeling that what he is saying is hard for him to say. Which gives the feeling that he speaks from his heart. Some times he would intentionally introduce slightly longer pauses before words to show sincerity in what he says by overly clarifying words. It would depend on how he sings. In "I'll never smile again" he would use it in a way that it sounds almost as if tries to sing while sobbing, but with out the distorted voice a snivels. In "It's a lovely day tomorrow" he uses such pauses to show sincerity and clarity, due to how it is a song that tries to tell you that everything will get better. It wouldn't matter that much if it wasn't for the fact that singers like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald became the symbols of jazz song even when we should have given up on them decades before. Jazz song became a symbol of soulless sell out jazz, done by greedy old people. It became taboo. There is absolutely nothing perfect with this performance. Just sad and desperate old people who can't move on and develop. I guess it is so much easier to just find out what people likes about you and then overdo it for some extra cash. There will always be the blind fans who can accept what ever the fuck from someone for as long as it is that someone who sings it.
Just the Best. Period. It will NEVER be this good again, but thankfully we have CD, DVD's and other medias. Ella can still thrill me - I was lucky enough to see her live twice - I will remember her as long as I live. She was the most gracious performer I have ever seen. I don't know whether she taught then Angels to sing, or they taught her, but it's fun to think about, and we're the ones who are blessed to have had that voice to listen to in our lives. Ella, Thank You -
Truly amazing. No one can compare. Just the right amount of playing with the melody, executed flawlessly, and an intense amount of emotion poured into this performance. Ella is the best.
Every time I see another performance of Ella's that's new to me, it is clearly apparent that she had no parallel in the performance of the american songbook. She was such a treasure. Thanks for the posting.
WOW! I have to use another word now=MARVELOUS! Ella is a diamond in the ruff. She set the stage for our jazz performers of todays' times. A MA SING!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything is just perfect in this video. Her voice and the orchestra, every end of sentence, the unpretentious way she sings and also something that I miss these days, they knew how to make a close up in television, the right image in the right moment.. it´s simply wonderful!
after watching this for the 100th, I have bought 2 ella CD's, I cannot believe that I have not really noticed her wonderful voice before, but she was doing more scat singing in the 70's and 80's and I never noticed her really beautiful voice. no wonder she was Frank Sinatra's favorite singer, she is the best!
What?! This was a shit performance. It was one of the worst performances of this song that I have ever heard. I mean she even fucking added scats to places where they clearly ruined the little of note worthy flow that actually existed in her song. She should have been ashamed of her self, selling out like this and turning her self in to a parody of her self.

Ella's voice was like velvet. One of the best female voices ever. Her duets with Frank Sinatra are the best. Loved his introduction.
I once read that Frank Sinatra was asked who his favourite female singer was. His reply: you mean apart from Ella Fitzgerald? No need to say more.
Don't you love how Frank handled that intro? These two were the pinnacle of the art of modern voice.
Absolutely!
It was nice of him!
Agreed!
Absolutely amazing
i found out that's a part of a song in Gypsy Muscial
I wanna give her a hug . She won’t even open her eyes cuz she doesn’t care to see the reactions of others,. All that that mattered was how her heart was aching
"Bo-ah-ah-ah-dy and soul" just love the way she sings that phrase!
Yes: she *caressed* her lyrics like none other!
Only a Queen can sing like that. Body-ody-ody-ody-ody LOL
Yes: Ella could actually stretch a one or two syllable word into a luscious work of art: like soft butter; so smooth and moving
The string pulled on that base when Frank said “And WHAT A GIRL”.
It sounded so sultry.
I’ve always associated Ella’s voice with the jazz base; they go amazingly together.
Among of the most exalted expressions of Fine American Art. Ella and Frank.
With her sweet voice (her whole life her voice remained sweet), her incredible ear and sense of time, there is no one like Ella.
💙

I don't think Ella ever realised how truly beautiful her voice was ... she was blessed with a true gift 🙏
She knew she was good, but never would she say that there were other artists who were "just as good" = God Bless her humility
We probably hear ourselves a bit differently, I agree
@RG S
Perhaps ... or it could just be humility.
@@scotnick59 an artist always hears themselves through different ears
I cannot stop watching this. Ella and Frank were uber exceptional. Imagine being there on that lovely evening.
Ella was magnificent!!!!!
She is contented to tell the story. No need to show off. So much respect for both the melody and the lyric. And she looks absolutely beautiful.
i got multiple chills, that woman was and is a queen
Ella's voice was the ultimate instrument. She is timeless.
The strong voice of a black woman. Hard to top that. Salute!

My mom's use to know Frank and the gang way back in the 50-60's. I listened to this music all my childhood. I miss them!
I further believe in miracles whenever I hear Ella singing like this: sheer perfection!!
Wow!
Never saw it that way.
Beautiful words you’ve written.
BEST INTRO EVER!

You know I'm yours for just the taking
I'd gladly surrender
Myself to you, body and soul.

She was famously shy and really didn't understand marriage in her private life: her millions of fans gave her the tonic she so well deserved.
The sweetest purest voice ever!
Her voice is like a cool drink of water on a hot summer day that's a classy lady
Madame Lemonade had the voice of an Angel!
What a joy it must be to go through life with a gift like that. Takes a song and turns it into a symphony.
Talent like hers doesn't exist anymore.
Just found this. I think this is my favorite track by her after "How long has this been going on", which makes me almost cry.
