Bought this last week and I did actually use it quite often (I didn't expect that but since it's so simple instead of connecting the USB cable into your phone)
There has to be a power source...your complaint seems to be that it's too close to the device to be considered wireless charging. But it is wireless (even if it's in contact with the device) - the power is being induced through the glass back of the device.
It adds the convince of not having to plug something in and out every time you want to charge/take the phone. It also provides a little docking station.
nice review but a thing I think you should have mentioned is the charging time, is it fast or same as cable or faster, And would the usb source make any different ? ( laptop, phone charger, tablet charger )
I think the wireless charging is great for several reasons. If you have arthritis and have trouble with your dexterity as my mother does this would be extremely helpful. It is also better as it exerts less fatigue on the connection in the bottom of your phone / and the plug and their connections over time. The "wireless" charging seems to me like a no brainer to be included in all of these products - including iPhones from here on out. Thanks for the review Mike.
Hey Mike, I know this isn't really on topic but I have a question. I just got my new 27" iMac, and I have been noticing that the fan is a little loud. Like I can always hear it even if nothing is open. Is yours like this? Thanks :)
Ok thanks, I though something seemed odd. Do you think I should bring it in to the Apple store? I tried downloading SMCfanControl but it said that my fan was as low as possible... It could have gotten damaged when it was shipped here I guess...
Do you think that the adhesive will lose its stickiness very quickly? If I am getting it, I do want it to last at least for as long as I will be having the phone (a year or two). I think that is the only concern I have right now. Thank you.
you didn't get it. he did not said that charging happens through bluetooth or NFC,what he meant was that NFC is the equivalent to that small bit of extra convinience but not the bluetooth and i too like to have wireless charging,NFC..everything
If you have a carbon fiber skin on the back, does it also charge the phone and can you also sync with you pc or mac if the phone is connected with the wireless charger.
They need to make this for laptops. imagine setting your computer on your desk and having it automatically charge. maybe with a built in fan, couple usb ports, adjustable height, cup holder...mini cooler...tupperware for your chips.... catheter...
That's a pretty dumb comment. Its wireless in the fact you don't have to plug it into your phone. Just like a cordless phone still has a cord plugged into the base. Basically its a $60 convenience fee. Also would come in real handy if the charger port ever got broken on your phone.
iPhones don't have wireless charging because true wireless charging doesn't exist yet. The "wireless" charging that we see in the Nexus 4 and the Lumia 920 takes four times as long to charge a phone, and you can't even pick up your phone to use it like you can while using a more efficient cable. True wireless charging will be a base station that plugs into the wall, and whenever your device is within however many feet of that base station, it'll be charging.
Do you believe the Qi standard is going to be adopted by all major cell players? It's worth it if I can charge all my different devices from different brands with one charger! Imagine a household charging their Nokia, Samsung, HTC, etc .. phones along with different tablets with one charger. How convenient & efficient that would be! One charger fits all :)
this phone has lockscreen issues, camera lens jiggle (apple devices have this too) and micro usb port breaking. And a mediocre battery too. However, I still love my nexus 4 and would take it over an iphone any single day!
You missed the most logical question: how does the charge time compare with the wall adaptor?
This is the one thing that I used to love about my Palm Pre phones. I have 3 or 4 of the palm devices and wished that they worked with the Nexus.
thanks for this one, mike! was hoping for a trusted review soon and there.s the borg on the case.
the great invention of NFC.. after watching this video i've decided to buy this wireless charger.. hope to receive it by next week.. thanks again

welcome back detroit! Missed your videos!!

Good concept, but will the phone charge slower than via micro USB port?
Thanks. I need to get one of these.
Woah . . .just got deja vu when I saw you unbox the charger and then remembered the nexus q. . . Remember that from way back when??

Every phone should come with something like this.
Hey man, I am pretty sure that if you were charging it and receiving a phone call, just pick up and then you can answer it without further operation.
Going to get this. Thanks for the video:)
My charging orb should be in this week. I can't wait!
Oh I miss your videos :)
Oh, I see it that way now, thanks for explaining that. I'd argue that they're both good examples.
I am trying ridiculously hard to get my hands on a Nexus 4!
I'm just dying to make some videos on it!
Another great video btw!
Will you be doing a review of the Surface Pro?
I showed my mom your unboxing of the iMac 21.5 2012 edition and that got her to buy it.
Do you think that the adhesive will lose its stickiness very quickly? If I am getting it, I do want it to last at least for as long as I will be having the phone (a year or two). I think that is the only concern I have right now. Thank you.
It's kinda like the equivalent of bluetooth peripherals, they only really add a small bit of convenience but you pay much more for it.
Innovation is always nice.
This maybe a stupid question, but what will happen if you charge the nexus 4 both via cable and wirelessly at the same time?
Should work since it uses the Qi Charging standard, just like the Lumai 920 worked with it.
I predict that in the future....your devices would never die!
If you charge it with the Orb and a Micro USB at the same time does it charge faster?
if you charge it wirelessly and with the cable does it charge twice as fast?
how long does it take to charge it to full? does it take longer time then with the wire charging?
Waiting on your surface pro review!
you didn't get it.
he did not said that charging happens through bluetooth or NFC,what he meant was that NFC is the equivalent to that small bit of extra convinience but not the bluetooth

I have a very thick case and wireless charging still works
Mike will it work with the note 3 as in can I place it on the charger and the back will grip on the charger?
What if you have the orb charging and have it connected ? Will you have double charging speeds ?
Just got it. It great.
yea but where would you get the electricity from?
I'd love a Nexus 7, but I have too much stuff. D:
Isn't the memory non-expandable?
Does it charge as fast as the normal charger?
is the box smaller or bigger than the nexus 4 box, does the charger feel small?
will it work with a regular case on the phone?
Does it have to be connected to an external power source to charge still? If so it seems kinda pointless
They need to make this for laptops. imagine setting your computer on your desk and having it automatically charge. maybe with a built in fan, couple usb ports, adjustable height, cup holder...mini cooler...tupperware for your chips.... catheter...
It charges your phone? I'd like to know how.
I prefer the 'Mat' or 'Pad' form factor, like in the Lumia 920.
You should charge the nexus by the chsrger and the orb at the same time
A must have.
So I'm guessing, if you have a case that's semi-thick, the orb can't charge it?
Do more videos, you are awesome!
I use it and its really comfortable
will it work with screen protectors ?
Maaaaannnn google! Make it available in Germany please. Nice Review Mike
does it work with iPhone?

very good review!
i just wanna know: DO YOU REALLY HAVE ALL OF THESE DEVICES??!!
Your profile pic gives the right impression. :P
nice your the best Mike
Looks pretty good.
If I charge it both wirelessly and with the USB, it will charge quickly ? XD
Good job like always
does it work with the gs3?
other companies provide wireless charging covers and docks for iphone. right?
Because Plugging in your phone is too much work?
So hows this Wireless Charging u still have to plug it in >_>
Will this work with the HTC one?
Thank you i will buy it
This would work with a Galaxy S3 as long as I got the appropriate rear panel, wouldn't it?

This is compatibile for Nexus 7?
thats...pretty cool!
will it work with a full tpu case?
they're not really shortened anymore...
But it's true. What profitable reason is there to bring inductive charging. It's $60 to save you from fiddling with plugging it in.
Very good review! thumbs up so mike can see! :)
Dose it work with a case
Especially in the dark!
Good thing it comes with a usb and charger. If this was an apple product it would most likely be just the dock for $59.
does this charger works w/ any phone?
We should embrace the plans of Nicolas Tesla about wireless electricity. To make "wireless" possible.
hey will this work with a case on the nexus 4?
YOUR BACK :)

Wake me up when wireless charging has a range around your whole house like wifi.
I see. A very minor extra convenience, while I find that to be okay it doesn't seem worth 60 dollars. Maybe 20.
Of course not.
the usb adapter must be consuming some power while in standby
will it work with LG Optimus 4X HD?
how glass or plastic sticks ?????????
i wish a company would create a a wall adapter to usb that is actually compact so it wouldn't stick out so much
this is cool! nice video.
this phone has lockscreen issues, camera lens jiggle (apple devices have this too) and micro usb port breaking. And a mediocre battery too. However, I still love my nexus 4 and would take it over an iphone any single day!
Will the nexus 7 work on it?! :-)
His back?
I'm guessing by "true" you mean practical?
Nope, it's inductive charging. And I was't saying the technology used was bluetooth, I was making a comparison.
