salad creme is more like mayonnaise with the texture of tomato ketchup and a taste that is more like a ketchup than mayo. YOu kind of have to experience it. It was almost removed from sale a few years ago (because nobody was buying it) but then there was a public outcry. It isn't actually as awful as it sounds with chips. You would *never* eat it in a sandwich or with actual salad though.
Salad Creme is much thinner than Mayo and absolutely vile! It used to be that we English thought of Mayo as French and so Salad Creme was more popular despite how utterly horrid the stuff is.
Also like Mayonnaise Salad Cream is made with eggs and also tends to dry out slowly if gets too warm. So storing it in a fridge can prolong it's self life. I personally keep my bottle of Salad Cream in the fridge. As for taste, I guess Mayonaise + Lemon Juice or White Vinegar? (although different brands have different recipes that affect the taste)
Commenter Simon Q made up a more “honest” version of the Rimmer song on another video of the Rimmer Experience. I give him full credit, but I thought Cyborcat and my fellow Red Dwarf fans would enjoy. If you’re in trouble he will flee and squeal He’s weak and he's spineless, come what will His level of incompetence is quite unreal He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer Of stress and strife, he is the bringer He'll wear your patience ever thinner He will put you through the wringer He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer He’s an even bigger square than Seymour Skinner He’ll make a frowner of a grinner He will never be a winner Master of the phoney camaraderie He’ll swiftly squash your prospects of joy and glee How come he’s such a tosser? It’s a mystery He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer He's also a fantastic fibber His lightbulb couldn’t get much dimmer How I hate to hear him blither
I think that Lister's affection for Rimmer is true throughout all of it. They loved to hate each other, but the love was there, and so Lister does feel a little lost without him. As for the hokey look of everyone in the song... this is based on Rimmer's memories, so everything is glamorised like a bad opera or stage play.
@@dvd11811 my understanding is that they had very different personalities and styles which led them to butt heads, but they did actually dislike each other (much like their characters).
8:20 - The day spent filming this was nicknamed "Black Wednesday" by the cast. It was an awful day of filming where everything went wrong and their patience wore very thin indeed. Retake after retake, and the cast were totally pissed off by the end of the day. Danny John-Jules said the tired faces seen on them sitting in the ride seats was real. They hated this day.
Kind of a nit pick but in the flashback on red dwarf they have Rimmer in the wrong uniform. I now at some point during filming this season Chris wore the red uniform so I don't know why they didn't use it for continuity.
I'll be honest, I've gone through this entire series (yours, I've done RD many many times now) and I came so close to commenting "oh man I loved this episode, this was one of my favourites as a kid, this bit was my favourite" etc. But I swear nothing cracked me up as hard as the entire Rimmer Experience from start to finish, the make-up, shoddy acting, the way everyone is super cheesy and positive towards Rimsy, and of course that song, holy crap I can't explain how much I love this episode for the ending section alone. Utterly iconic And I gotta say, I'm really enjoying your series on this too :)
The Rimmer Experience is one of the greatest moments of the show, right up there with Kryten's disembodied arm crawling up Lister's leg and Lister kissing the siren.
At 3:41 behind the Cat, is the legendary triangular wall. Which has appeared in at least three Doctor Who stories, Blake's 7, The legend of Robin Hood and now Red Dwarf.
i think the make up and white teeth was to make them look animatrionic same with the jilted movements i think rimmers was a bit thicker to make rimmer look more conventionally handsome like he would view himself
If that was the case, they failed. Kryten looks like an animatronic because he has a plastic face. The other looks like their wearing women's makeup. Maybe that's the joke? But Rimmer looks like he's wearing women's makeup as well. Honestly, if they were trying to go for an animatronic look, it would have been way funnier if they used cheap animatronics dressed up as the crew.
The 2 Kochanski seasons get too much hate. Actually, some fine episodes amongst them, (even if as a whole aren't my favourites seasons) - although some of my favourite episodes such as 'blue' are among my top ten favoutite Red Dwarf epsiodes. It really is tough following Chris Barrie as Rimmer but Chloe Annette did a great job playing Kochanski. There is no Red Dwarf season I hate - although some I adored more than others. On the subject on salad cream - I love it as a subtitute for mayo mixed with tuna in a sandwich. I have to say I agree with Kryten with keeping it in the fridge.
"Which goes about as well as you'd expect..." Is this deliberately becoming a catchphrase, or is it just a thing that's happening? It's slowly getting more and more chuckles out of me so I'm not complaining. I was maybe twelve when this series first aired and Blue sticks in my mind and I don't know whether it's because it was a good Rimmer episode, a half-decent *Lister* episode or just because the Rimmer Experience song is one of the most memorable things to come out of the show. Right up there with Tongue Tied if you ask me.
My best guess is that the uncanny-valley-ness of Rimmer's memories are supposed to add to the cringiness of it. It's Rimmer's head, *of course* everything isn't just an egotrip but a *shoddily crafted* egotrip at that! Also, here's a question that has never occurred to me in my life before now: are you in fact not supposed to iron bras? Lifelong bachelor here, only ever ironed my own clothes.
LOL. Nope, they tend to be fragile, so some of them can't even be machine washed. Not to mention that the shape is too awkward, like Kryten said. Plus they're made to stretch, so any wrinkles it might have would straighten out when it's put on anyway. At the very least, *I* can't imagine anyone ironing one.
My god WHY would you need to iron a bra? First of all, there's nothing on them that gets creases in the first place, due to what they're made of. Secondly, they sit tight on the body and any 'creases' would be flattened out anyway. Thirdly, do you iron your underwear? Why? That would make more sense than a bra, as would ironing a sock.
I love how Kochanski is laughing at the end of the Rimmer ride, but nevertheless looks horrified at the munchkin parade. Also cool how Craig and Chris didn't get on at the beginning, but by series 7 they were getting along well enough to make out on camera and laugh about it.
When Kochanski joined the team, I was worried about some negative change to the dynamic of the show... but I did not expect it to come from Kryten, sooo.... I'll at least give them props for the new character not being directly to blame for some disliked changes ..... weird phrasing on my part, sorry.
Also, I admit chuckling that... it;'s Kochański, when all the time, it sounded to me like you were trying to say Kaczyński I'm Polish, so I get a little laughter from Americans pronouncing these names. We have a horribly stupid language :p

Even though this one was played for comedy, it would probably have still counted. Things are different these days, of course.
Honestly I like that the kiss is so short as it better transitioned into the reveal that it was a bad dream. It’d be rather weird to have the entire kiss play out and ONLY then cut to lister waking up.
Salad creme is great and I come from the Town where the best type! Is made. I had forgotten that you could use it on chips, also Mash potato and believe or not salad! I'm with Kryton it should always be kept in the fridge! I'm really enjoying your reviews of Red Dwarf, it's good to hear an America perspective. 10:42 - she's genuinely enjoying herself. And the others are genuinely cheesed off. According the same documentary that you show clips of the guys referred to the day they filmed the 'Experience' section as something like "Black Monday" because it was such a shitty shoot. Cut to Chloe who described it as being fun :D
I liked Blue and found it to be funny. I thought that Kryten mellowed quite a bit and does not have that annoying squeak in his voice he had in Ouroboros or in Duct Soup. Also Kochanski had some great moments. One of my favourite parts is when she asks Kryten if he knows how to get a bottle of sour cream out of an android's rectal cavity. There is one major thing you did not mention. I have the DVD set of Red Dwarf from Seasons 1 - 8 and Back to Earth. The Season 7 Collectors booklet says to watch out for "Blue in Blue". You must try salad cream. It is the alt mayo. Like brown sauce is to ketchup. Please tell me where i should send these british classics. Both of these have a more vinegary thing going on.
I've been watching through Red Dwarf for the first time ever and have just finished season 8. It's really strange how the writing in different seasons can go so up and down. I found season 7 awful, so many changes in it annoyed me. Kryten went from being a complimentary addition to the team and funny character, into being a really annoying, whining git. Rimmer was gone for the most part. And it went from 4 clueless blokes flying in space having a laugh and having a good time winding Rimmer up to now having a smartass intelligent serious person in the team, who doesn't like the team. Best part of the whole season is The Rimmer Experience, and that's pretty much it. However then Season 8 changed everything and is absolutely insanely awesome, possibly the best season of the lot maybe. It changed so much, I actually thought Kochansky was played by a different actress. Because I went from hating her character in series 7 to loving the character in series 8. Shows what a difference good writing can make. She actually has some of the best lines in the series and has some really great jokes this time. I've found this to be the case for all seasons, the writing styles can be awesome one season and mediocre for another. It's crazy but somewhat adds to the charm of Red Dwarf. It's such a cobbled together low budget show, I think all these factors are what make it appealing to the fans. I've never seen a programme like this. It's smegging awesome.
You have good taste XD The plan was to finish the Cat videos after I've finished the main ones, but now that more seasons have been announced, I might do the next ones after Season X, then have one more batch after finishing the rest of the series.
6:05 Kryton says in german: "Wir müssen ihn töten (...) du Scheißkerl". I don't understand the part in the middle, but the rest translates to "We must kill him (...) you shithead" (Scheiße is shit and Kerl is dude, so make of that what you will ;) Also, Lister & Rimmer could've used their lips more when they kissed, but heck, it was adorable anyways :D
That's amazing, gotta love bilingual bonuses. Also, upon watching the clip a lot while editing I notice that Chris's face is kind of scrunched up like he's grimacing. Craig seems to be into it, tho =P
Funny moments, but never as good as series 1 - 6. What saddens me about this series is that they didn't have a studio audience and used the excuse of "more elaborate sets". Come on! Red Dwarf wasn't about elaborate sets, it's about being funny. The series suffered and I think this was when Rob Grant left. Still funny from time to time, but overall, it just lost the funniness but gained better sets and effects. Sadly, this was the wrong way around. It got worse when they brought in Kotchanski. Sadly, the character was about as funny as a dishcloth. A different actor and a stuck-up snob. Not the actor's fault, obviously, it was the writing. And the departure of Chris Barrie. The concept of 3, then 4 lonely, sad, pathetic guys went out the window.
I love that song. If you're in trouble he will save the day He's brave and he's fearless come what may Without him the mission would go astray He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer Without him life would be much grimmer He's handsome, trim and no one's slimmer He will never need a zimmer
salad creme is more like mayonnaise with the texture of tomato ketchup and a taste that is more like a ketchup than mayo. YOu kind of have to experience it. Well, shit, the name just totally threw me then XD

I was about to say: it sound like it should definitely go in the fridge, then =P
Cyborcat As an avid lover of salad cream, I would say just imagine mayonnaise but more vinegary
8:26 "Are you ready for the Rimmer Experience?"
Trick question. You can never be ready for the Rimmer Experience
True XD
“Welcome to the Rimmer Experience - a place of wonder, excitement, and...wonder.”
God, I love that whole sequence so much.
Commenter Simon Q made up a more “honest” version of the Rimmer song on another video of the Rimmer Experience. I give him full credit, but I thought Cyborcat and my fellow Red Dwarf fans would enjoy.
If you’re in trouble he will flee and squeal
He’s weak and he's spineless, come what will
His level of incompetence is quite unreal
He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer
Of stress and strife, he is the bringer
He'll wear your patience ever thinner
He will put you through the wringer
He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer
He’s an even bigger square than Seymour Skinner
He’ll make a frowner of a grinner
He will never be a winner
Master of the phoney camaraderie
He’ll swiftly squash your prospects of joy and glee
How come he’s such a tosser? It’s a mystery
He’s Smeghead, Smeghead, Smeghead Rimmer
He's also a fantastic fibber
His lightbulb couldn’t get much dimmer
How I hate to hear him blither
A story so touching it makes you want to make a teddy bear out of your own bronze swimming certificate.
6:07 when Kryten uses the German disk from Hitler's speech and startled Lister, it made me laugh so much that i roll on the floor.
There is a story that CC and CB did not like each other IRL. Is this true? Anyone?
@@dvd11811 my understanding is that they had very different personalities and styles which led them to butt heads, but they did actually dislike each other (much like their characters).
9:40: If you thought THAT was good wait until you see the Rimmer Barbershop Quartet!
8:20 - The day spent filming this was nicknamed "Black Wednesday" by the cast. It was an awful day of filming where everything went wrong and their patience wore very thin indeed. Yeah I noticed that too and the blue is supposed to denote hard light, which he didn't get until Legion, after they lost Red Dwarf.
I've never seen that out take of the kiss, their faces were amazing! Thanks Cyborcat!
Man I love Red Dwarf and I thoroughly enjoy these reviews
I'm going to have that damn song stuck in my head all day...
Sorry XD

Thanks, glad you like it! And yeah, The Rimmer Experience is definitely a high point of Season 7.
It's a small Rimmerworld after all.
I forgot about the song...It is AMAZING!
The Rimmer Experience is one of the greatest moments of the show, right up there with Kryten's disembodied arm crawling up Lister's leg and Lister kissing the siren.
Yeah it's a toss-up between this and Stoke Me A Clipper for my favourite S7 episode (no surprise they are both Rimmer-centric).
At 3:41 behind the Cat, is the legendary triangular wall. Which has appeared in at least three Doctor Who stories, Blake's 7, The legend of Robin Hood and now Red Dwarf.
Interesting!
I often sing along to the Munchkin Rimmer song, although it's hard at times to keep up.

@RubberFistFight but tbf grogans kochanski wasnt written as a main, she had about 30 lines of dialogue in the whole show
"Which goes about as well as you'd expect..." Is this deliberately becoming a catchphrase, or is it just a thing that's happening? It's slowly getting more and more chuckles out of me so I'm not complaining.

We're even--I learned what salad cream is XD
I iron mine, not the cups but the straps and back. I like ironing almost as much as Kryten does though.

4:17 I like that Lister is wearing his Season 3-5 attire in the flashback. I don't know why they changed him to wearing overalls.
My only complaint with this episode is they didn’t make the Rimmer song a singalong.
I can totally imagine the words at the bottom of the screen with the bouncing ball =P
Sometimes when watching this episode I'll put on the captions so I can sing along. LOL :)
It would be so in-character for Rimmer to do that.
The gay kiss always makes me burst out laughing.
The Arnold Rimmer Experience is easily the best thing Red Dwarf has ever done.
As a RimmerxLister fan I feel called out and judged.
As should we lmao
"It's that awkward look on Lister's face that really sells it..."
There is that, and then there's Kochanski's reaction.... PRICELESS!!
You're right. I'm always looking it Lister and Cat XD
*REMINDER* : Do not think that kiss IS the reason Rimster exist. thanks you
The biggest shame of the broadcast version is that they cut out the punchline of the Rimmer Munchkin song.
I’m glad you closed the episode with it.

Friction is a part of human life. RImmer provided that friction for Lister.
10:42 - she's genuinely enjoying herself. And the others are genuinely cheesed off. According the same documentary that you show clips of the guys referred to the day they filmed the 'Experience' section as something like "Black Monday" because it was such a shitty shoot. Yeah, I heard about that. It's pretty funny.
Admiral Rimmer, commander of the fleet.
If you haven't caught on, I will explain this clearly:
Lister mentions about the time he and Rimmer had on Red Dwarf with the lockers. The time on Red Dwarf was when Rimmer was a soft-light hologram. He would have been dressed in either green, red, or grey. He only was dressed in blue when he became a hard-light hologram when they met Legion in Season 6, when they were on starbug and lost Red Dwarf. That is a major inconsistency.
In spite of that, Blue was a good enough episode to recommend.

Interesting, and glad you like 'em so far ^.^
Actually, he was a grave filler.
I can only imagine how many fanfics were written about that Lister/Rimmer kiss. XD
Jes thousands..
'Bobbing for apples t the communal latrine at the Reading festival', where should one begin with that one? I bring this up, as I'm a drive/ train stops away from Reading, and I've been to the festival itself a couple of times.
My little sister once lost her glasses in those very latrines. She did not even contemplate getting them back.
0:27 can somebody PLEASE tell me where i can get one of theses posters
If I knew, I would have told you the last time you posted this. If you're really looking for it, do some google searching or ask in some Red Dwarf forums. Spamming this all over my channel isn't going to get you anywhere.
If you guys want a laugh, search for Wonka Rimmer experience. You wont regret it.
The salad cream is a funny bit. Why didn't K & K just read the label to see if it should be refrigerated. Oh! wait. Never mind.
I though the idea was kryten made up rimmers diary ?
You must try salad cream. It is the alt mayo. Like brown sauce is to ketchup. Please tell me where i should send these british classics. Both of these have a more vinegary thing going on.
If you're serious about sending them to me, shoot me a PM and I'll give you an address ^.^
Cyborcat of course.no idea how to pm on you tube. is that a thing?
If you go to the About tab on my channel, next to the description, there's a couple of icons and one of them is for sending a message.
Cyborcat I will get on it. not viewable on my phone. I guess I need to dust off the pc to see the tabs. or my phone needs an update.
Another smegtastic video. Love them.
My favourite bit is at 6:07-6:10 lol.
From season 3 to 5 Craig and Chris didn't like each other in real life
Gotta say chole is stunning
I've been watching through Red Dwarf for the first time ever and have just finished season 8. It's really strange how the writing in different seasons can go so up and down. I found season 7 awful, so many changes in it annoyed me. Kryten went from being a complimentary addition to the team and funny character, into being a really annoying, whining git. Really? I thought there were a few good episodes in season 7, but season 8 was awful.
Is the next Cat video coming when this series’s vlogs have ended?? Hope so!
You can tell he’s my favourite from my name lmao!
You have good taste XD
The plan was to finish the Cat videos after I've finished the main ones, but now that more seasons have been announced, I might do the next ones after Season X, then have one more batch after finishing the rest of the series.
8:38 ill stop the vid there
When did the live audience come back?
It's a laughing track. The extended editions of episodes 1,3,4, the ones dena used had no track. Both versions are on the dvd
6:05 Kryton says in german: "Wir müssen ihn töten (...) du Scheißkerl". I don't understand the part in the middle, but the rest translates to "We must kill him (...) you shithead" (Scheiße is shit and Kerl is dude, so make of that what you will ;)
Also, Lister & Rimmer could've used their lips more when they kissed, but heck, it was adorable anyways :D
That's amazing, gotta love bilingual bonuses.
Also, upon watching the clip a lot while editing I notice that Chris's face is kind of scrunched up like he's grimacing. Craig seems to be into it, tho =P
I don't like Kryten being a /r/justnomil
Tenth
Considering you do blogs for both shows you might enjoy this.

If you're in trouble he will save the day
He's brave and he's fearless come what may
Without him the mission would go astray
He's Arnold, Arnold, Arnold Rimmer
Without him life would be much grimmer
He's handsome, trim and no one's slimmer
He will never need a zimmer
Yeah it's a toss-up between this and Stoke Me A Clipper for my favourite S7 episode (no surprise they are both Rimmer-centric).
