  • CancerCompass is a user-friendly mobile application designed to address
the challenges faced by cancer patients in Nigeria. Cancer is a major health
problem in Nigeria and it is one of the major leading causes of death in
    Nigeria.
According to the National Cancer Control Plan (2018-2022), cancer
is responsible for 72,000 deaths in Nigeria every year, with an estimated
102,000 new cases of cancer. Chemotherapy (treatment of cancer with drugs) is used between 60 - 70% of cancer patients. Chemotherapy has been an effective, reliable cancer treatment for decades. Studies and research have revealed that accessibility to anti-cancer drugs is a major barrier to effective cancer management in Nigeria.
Inadequate availability and access to anti- cancer drugs and the high cost of drugs sometimes lead to treatment abandonment, health deterioration of patients, increased healthcare burden on the part of the caregiver, and increased poverty in society.
These concerns lead to a solution where cancer healthcare delivery can be revolutionized using technology and professional knowledge. The burden of breaking down barriers to cancer drug access made me come up with the idea of developing an intuitive mobile application (CancerCompass) that provides oncologists, healthcare providers, and cancer patients, with real-time access to an exclusive database of cancer drugs licensed for use in Nigeria, including availability and pricing regardless of location and circumstances.
The objective is to streamline anti-cancer drug sourcing while also enabling timely access to essential medications to aid cancer treatment
    outcomes.
CancerCompass has the potential to revolutionize cancer care in Nigeria by
improving drug availability, improving the quality of life of cancer patients,
enhancing health literacy, and reducing drug costs to enhance affordability.
The application will be available on Google Play Store and Apple Store for users to download for free.
