As a viewer for Singapore local TV, I feel Singapore have too much censorship for Singapore’s entertainment industry to go far.

@@alpacacomentadora413 miss thing, what you bullshitting about? We all know the world is not sunshines and rainbows. Singapore have too much censorship. Even some topics is being seen as a taboo even when it’s not. Censorship goes beyond the sexual topics. It can be about LGBT, war, politics, social activist, etc. Singapore controls too much of what we should watch. Because of censorship, our local tv channels kept playing over and over the same type of topics which mainly about family values, school, etc. These topics have been repeated and people are bored of it.

@@leoesque2803 I hope new topics/themes can be seen at a later time in Singapore. Im my country there are various themes and scenes that can't be found in Singapore. The most cliché theme in our dramas is infidelity.

@@alpacacomentadora413 dude, stop living in your safe space bubble. We want gritty and raw stuff that’s why we instinctively prefer overseas entertainment than the mediocre stuff mediacorp constantly poops out cause their shows are so regulated and safe as hell. We hate that and want creativity to not be held by soy rules. But hey that’s your opinion ain’t mine lol.

I’m not longer watch mediacorp shows since 2017 because most of the mediacorp shows are all family values like so boring still stuck in the 90’s

Agree to Edwin's answer to the question: Have you ever been embarrassed to tel people that you've acted in a Mediacorp drama?
Also prolly why locals stop watching Singapore shows.

Its the same story they produced so that's why few people watches it.

I recognized Edwin. Always act as the rebellious boy. I don't know who is Sofia. The last drama I watched was probably Blessing from the Ancestors with Jesseca Liu. I cannot stand the every fifteen minutes long commercials when watching MediaCorp

Lately netflix has bought quite a lot of old local dramas. I've been watching some.
However, have not been watching Mediacorp for the past years.

To be honest though, I can understand why Singaporeans, who are able to afford Netflix, are watching a lot of the series on that platform more than MediaCorp dramas. It’s not just because the series’ production budgets are bigger and better than MediaCorp’s and that Netflix is an international conglomerate while MediaCorp is a small production company where there target audience is only in Singapore. But because a lot of the series on Netflix are willing to push the envelope and tackle serious topics, like incest, rape, drug abuse, violence etc., that MediaCorp are too scared to touch or even broadcast. And that it all stems from the IMDA Broadcasting Act, which prohibits IMDA-registered production companies, like MediaCorp, from producing and broadcasting content that the IMDA deem inappropriate. Which, to me, I find creatively stifling and lacking innovation. Not to mention, it’s causing them to move backwards than forwards hence their rapid decrease in viewership. If they keep going in this direction, the gap between themselves and their audience is only going to get larger. That’s my opinion.

Our family dropped watching local dramas when we noticed they shelved our favourite actor Li Nanxing da ge back then. We wondered how come he was put into cold storage all of a sudden ... oh bec of his reply at the Star Awards that the management took offence at ... which was so petty ! Not that they were paying actors big fat pay ... those management offended by our handsome Li Nanxing da ge are all "small man" ! Anyway now we are back to supporting local shows ... cos we want to support our local actors.

Most SG based celebrities have complexity issue anyway, from actors to comedian to host to musician. Think most of them felt the same way as we outsider of the industry felt, at first being passion at young age and then when enter the industry soon realized it's just focus on propaganda than the actual entertainment supposed to be. Work for a job that are more related for being a government script puppets. Wonder why many young talented entertainer would rather choose becoming youtuber or twitch streamer? it certainly generate both entertainment and fame whilst Mediacorp had failed to deliver. SG government holding back these writers and actors and now nobody watch it, local tv shows that plot family value on "how we didn't lose touch from kinship" or police/military value on "how SPF and SAF are the best and country is all time safe". All of these are catering to older generation who has too much time with retirement, even local radio nowadays are pro-China brainwashing our grandparents or parents
