Whilst a lot are moldy, they aren't nearly as bad as they've been rumoured to be. The family (more specifically HRH Abdul Hakeem and HRH Mateen) are restoring each and every car one by one.
Long story short, Prince Jeffri Bolkiah was the minister of finance back in the day and he basically used the government's money to spend everything and I mean literally everything, including those crazy cars. Then the Sultan gets mad at him for spending an absurd amount of money (estimated about 15 billion USD) to fuel his lavish lifestyle. Guess what, legal action has been taken by his own brother (the sultan himself). Then he flees the country and resides in the UK and in the US for a couple of years. All of the cars now belong to the Brunei government and most of it has been sold to the public and even the royal family of Johor (a Malaysian state) bought a couple like the Mercedes S73 T AMG, Mclaren F1 LM4 and many more. Rumors have it that some of the ultra-rare ones like the one-of Ferarris, F40s, F50s, Mclaren F1s, Bugattis, etc are still there and some even say those cars are currently in Prince Jeffri's current royal palace (ohh yeah, the Sultan forgives him and he's back in Brunei)
@@ohZyki Well, most Bruneian Millennials know this story and I'm one of them and I've attended the car auction made by the Amedeo Development Corporation (run by Prince Jefri) when they collapsed back in the day
@@madinaqathank you for your explanation, considering how known the collection has come to be im surprised pretty much no one gives background context on how the collection came to be, most outsiders like me assumed the sultan himself was just throwing millions to every car brand possible because he liked cars that much
@@a3nofficial25 you're welcome! If you are willing to go down the rabbit hole and search for his (Prince Jefri) story of what he has spent, his whole car collection was just the tip of the iceberg.
This guy alone saved many brands from bankruptcy with his orders. About 20+ ago I read in a magazine that he had 700 AMG cars, with 3 engineers working full time just to maintain them. He had about 3500 cars then. The road version of the CLK GTR was built because he wanted it,Mercedes hadn't planed on doing it.
It's really sad to see so many of them molding and rotting away. After a certain point, a collection becomes a hoard, too big to manage, and this is it. So many amazing cars that'll never leave their storage spots, only to rot away to history.
That point is a moving target depending on how many people you staff to keep them in good shape. For a single person, they might be able to keep 20 cars running and in good shape at all times. For a crew of 500, a collection of 7000 vehicles could be maintained without issue. Do it’s not a problem of too large of a collection, it’s a problem of poorly managing the collection.
The way I see it, its better to have a collection of every special and unique car in history moldy, rusty, and irreparable rather than all of them crushed in a landfill with the only record being pictures and spare parts. Sure it may be upsetting that they are ruined and will never drive again, especially the F1s and other super rare and iconic ones, but if one day far in the future all humans have as a record of this era of transportation is this collection, it will be praised and appreciated.
You can tell that the owner was getting old... all the supercars are from 80s and 90s when he was younger and then the later stuff was Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, basically comfy cruisers and a lot of them are custom one offs
Almost the entire car collection was bought between 1988 and 1998, since by 1999 there was a dip in the oil prices that put the Brunei in a bad financial position. very few cars were bought in the 2000's and most of them were only bought to replace worn out cars the Brunei's family uses every day... like RRs, Bentleys and Mercedes.

From my Research it apparently did over 250mph at Ehra-Lessien in the 90s which would make it faster than the McLaren F1. It is a really fascinating Car that doesn’t have alot of information available online. I recommend researching it!
So many low/no production pieces of art just rotting away in this guys storage. More power to him for having the money to do it, but as an enthusiast it’s very sad to see
The collection pictures are from 2001. Some of "regular cars" have been sold off since the pictures were taken. The special cars are still there and have been kept in pretty good condition. The reason you saw eb110 with the turbo in it was probably because it was being fixed at the time. Btw it was his brother Jeffrey who brought the cars not the sultan. One of Jeff's yachts were called tits too!!
To start, very cool that after decades of speculation on the collection, this much detail has been leaked. I would be digging trying a 935. As a car enthusiast, I would hope at some point, likely after his passing, the family pivots and builds a museum the public can visit for his most representative stuff and then over time brings some lots to auction. A one time flood of these cars would likely disrupt the market for some key cars like the F1. Then again, cars like the F1 have market prices that kind of reflect the Sultan's cars being out of the market permanently.
He ordered 8 or 9 F40s. All but one or two were RHD, all but one was in a custom color, and most of them had fully custom interiors out of different Ferraris of the time
7:28 the car you are looking at is a Dauer 962 Le Mans, he has about 4/5 in his collection in different colors (obviously). There's a video by 'Chris vs cars' on this car where in an old picture you can see his other Dauer 962 LM's. Good day
Alot of his cars are 100% custom made for just him. And most of these cars are stored in horrible warehouses & in disrepair. Thats why some have moldy interiors
Going through the drive there's actually a whole lot of customs we know about that aren't present. No Bentley Dominator, and no Nazca M12 (not made specifically for him but I took note of it)
I spoke with the designer of the Ferrari FX and wrote an article about it for The Verge a few years back. He had incredible stories about working with the royal family and even being held hostage on their compound once. Cool to see the yellow FX. The blue one is on display here in SoCal.
Lived and worked there in the 90s when the collection was at it's peak the 'garage' was next to our site office ... was crazy to be driving along and have an xj220, F40 or Maclaren F1 blast by. His excellency is a legend ok, he has that collection, but would visit people on his Harley...just drop in.
As car people you should know the story all ready he asked his brother to buy some cars for him then when he realized he had bought 7000 cars he had him arrested and doesn't want to spend more money on them some of cars that have been sold are car he had in other countries but I think he believes he will lose face if he unloads the collection.
Assuming the picture is recent, it’s nice to see the one off black silver liveried F1LM isn’t rotting in a moldy state of disaster. That thing is so sick.
Looks like an old version of his collection; even still it looks like he's missing a lot of pre-war stuff (no Type 57 Bugatti's? No Auto Union?). I did see what looks to be a VP HSV GTS there though next to the white RAV4 at 2:35
My DudeinBlue blew past one the craziest cars ever made, the Holden VN Group A SS Commodore @2:35 which is parked next to the also rare Blu Chiaro Met. Fer 503/C Testarossa. Great video as usual, thanks for sharing and cheers!
there was a website that had an incomplete list of every car, and sure enough, it was accurate. this was about 4 months ago when I discovered this website.
2:35 the maroon car centre screen is I suspect a rare Aussie HSV: A number of models based on the VN Holden Commodore were developed by HSV, the most potent of which was the Commodore SS Group A SV built for Holden's sporting homologation requirements. It featured an extensively modified version of Holden's 5.0 litre V8 to produce 215kw and 411nm coupled to a six-speed ZF S6-40 manual transmission as used in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 in the USA. Upgrades were also made to the suspension, tyres and brakes. Although a total production of 500 cars was original planned for racing homologation reasons, only 302 were ultimately produced in non-sequential order meaning that build number 450 may exist while build number 100 may not. The VN Group A SS was the last Holden built as a homologation racing special
It’s mold we saw in some cars which means that the storage was of is not correctly environmentally controlled and humidity got in… Depending on how severe the humidity was / is it just means that many cars will have to be rebuilt especially the ones packed with electronics. I bet that Jeffies purchased most of these cars during his world famous shopping spree. Sad.
The craziest thing about this collection is the models that were made specifically for the Sultan. Bentley Buccaneer, Ferrari FX, etc. Absolutely wild.
He has many one off cars from Ferrari and Bentley that were made just for him. His 1000 plus room palace is amazing, the only thing here in this parts of the world it's so humid so cars mold deteriorate quickly.
The fact the sultan had the wildest car collection since 80's before youtube before social media before anyone's knowledge. Custom one of one car from legendary manufacture. Its a bonkers bro. The sultan of brunei are legend for me. And he is from brunei. Legend legend legend...
I learned that once you get to a certain amount of money, you can just basically have anything you want, and based on the condition of most of it, do not care about any of it. Just have it. I want that kind of money
As impressive as Lenos collection is it's nothing compared to the sultans. 100 steam powered cars will never top having the brand known for suing its customers for nothing build you several one off cars that completely go against its conservative ideals.
Apparently according to google these pictures were taken by an auction photographer in the early 2000’s so theses cars as bad as they were then are probably in horrible decay now…
Should’ve invested more money into storing them. If he had an enclosed parking garage then he could actually pick a car and just take an elevator with all the spaces numbered and organized, but let’s face it, if a car has sat for that long without being driven, there’s going to be more problems than just finding it and cleaning it. Tires will have flat spots, fluids will have water in them, batteries will be dead… I mean you could have a pit crew prep the car with good tires and fluids in a few minutes, but no matter how you cut it, most of those cars will never be used.
I’m all about car collecting, but when one single individual is hogging up all these cars that they’re never really gonna drive, enjoy or put out there to share with the world the love of cars it can be pretty upsetting
from what i understand a lot of these pictures are decades old. and most of these cars just sit and rot. like theyre legit in bad shape with no miles, its really sad.
Thing about this collection, is that he had Manufacturers CUSTOM make cars for him. Thats why some of those ferraris and bently's you've never seen before and its because he had them custom make them for him
So ridiculously wasteful. I guarantee you 3/4 of those cars don’t run and won’t ever run ever again, oil decaying the internals of the engine, fuel lines probably turned to mush, rubber rotting, interiors molding. Honestly just sickening. There is no doubt in my mind that’s the case.
7:26 is definitely a Dauer 962 LM, a road going version of the Porsche 962 from the aftermarket brand Dauer (similar to RUF or Gemballa). They also made the Bugatti EB110 SS. It's a extremely rare, has 750HP and a claimed to speed of 250mph. It was also released before the McLaren F1 so this car could've had the record but it was too low production and never made an actual top speed run
The whole collection is moldy, in disrepair, and rotting. These poor cars will never see the light of day. Sucks.
They've apparently gotten better since at least the mid to late 2000s.

He ordered 8 or 9 F40s. All but one or two were RHD, all but one was in a custom color, and most of them had fully custom interiors out of different Ferraris of the time
he probably would salivate over Ed's colour matched Bugatti
He has a Holden VN group A SS!! How cool
Did my guy have a fascination for Mcdonalds or what?
Yes, the King of Brunei owns McDonald's corporation!!!
flag of brunei krepresents red and yellow..
Brunei 🇧🇳 = Yellow, White, Red, Black…
7:28 the car you are looking at is a Dauer 962 Le Mans, he has about 4/5 in his collection in different colors (obviously). There's a video by 'Chris vs cars' on this car where in an old picture you can see his other Dauer 962 LM's. Good day
Needs to be pinned cause it's crazy
7:29 that looks to be a Dauer 962 LM
(a road going version of the Porsche 962 FIA Group C / LeMans race cars)
From what I've read there's alot of cars like the Suburban where they're just completely trashed.
Whoever MADE this file, and took all these photos and labeled everything deserves a lot of money
That must have taken forever
It’s about time the internet got its hands on this
Alot of his cars are 100% custom made for just him. And most of these cars are stored in horrible warehouses & in disrepair. Thats why some have moldy interiors
Going through the drive there's actually a whole lot of customs we know about that aren't present. No Bentley Dominator, and no Nazca M12 (not made specifically for him but I took note of it)
Bro there are so many ppl that have huge car collections that noone knows about
The Bugatti interior is nuts 😂😂
The sultan has alot of one off built cars
I spoke with the designer of the Ferrari FX and wrote an article about it for The Verge a few years back. He had incredible stories about working with the royal family and even being held hostage on their compound once. Cool to see the yellow FX. The blue one is on display here in SoCal.
7:26 I think a Porsche 962 Le Mans car
It's a Dauer 962 LM
Dauer 962 for the unfamiliar car
What sucks is all of those cars are wasting away with mold and such. I wonder how many have locked up engines by this point
7:33 It's a Dauer 962. Basically a Porsche 962 group c car homologated for the gt1 class back in the 90's.
That silver car at 7 22 is a Lotec C1000 a Mercedes one off that's apparently for sale. It is said to have reached a top speed of 268 mph.
Nope, Dauer 962 lemans, the Lotec is owned by a billionaire in the UAE
As car people you should know the story all ready he asked his brother to buy some cars for him then when he realized he had bought 7000 cars he had him arrested and doesn't want to spend more money on them some of cars that have been sold are car he had in other countries but I think he believes he will lose face if he unloads the collection.
He got a bunch of Mercedes hammers very expensive and rare
Assuming the picture is recent, it’s nice to see the one off black silver liveried F1LM isn’t rotting in a moldy state of disaster. That thing is so sick.
Looks like an old version of his collection; even still it looks like he's missing a lot of pre-war stuff (no Type 57 Bugatti's? No Auto Union?).
I did see what looks to be a VP HSV GTS there though next to the white RAV4 at 2:35
Ralph Lauren beat him on the only Type 57SC sold "recently"
it's a VN group A SS, even more rare lol
My DudeinBlue blew past one the craziest cars ever made, the Holden VN Group A SS Commodore @2:35 which is parked next to the also rare Blu Chiaro Met. Fer 503/C Testarossa. Great video as usual, thanks for sharing and cheers!
there was a website that had an incomplete list of every car, and sure enough, it was accurate. this was about 4 months ago when I discovered this website.
2:35 the maroon car centre screen is I suspect a rare Aussie HSV:
A number of models based on the VN Holden Commodore were developed by HSV, the most potent of which was the Commodore SS Group A SV built for Holden's sporting homologation requirements.
Sultan could definitely throw an impressive Radwood for sure ! 👌
VW did not own Bugatti when the EB110 was made.
The fact the sultan had the wildest car collection since 80's before youtube before social media before anyone's knowledge. Custom one of one car from legendary manufacture. Its a bonkers bro. The sultan of brunei are legend for me. And he is from brunei. Legend legend legend...
7:35, Duauer 962. Aka a road converted Porsche 962. Won lemans in 1994 (which was controversial)
And i think they made 6 road legal cars and 5 of them was in this collection. Correct me if I'm wrong
The Dauer 962 Le Mans is a sports car based on the Porsche 962 Group C racing car, which won the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans with Porsche support.
The pictures are from 2001
I learned that once you get to a certain amount of money, you can just basically have anything you want, and based on the condition of most of it, do not care about any of it. Just have it. I want that kind of money
10:04 The Ueno Clinic F1 GTR is chassis number "01R" and is the '95 Le Mans champion, the history of that car is insane.
I used to have a 99 rav4 l awd 4 door. I miss that thing so much! I'm glad david is having a great time seeing those rav4s
Oh man! Any Foxbody Mustangs or DSM cars?
koenigseggs?
That car next to the F40 LM was a Dauer 962, road legal road car built on a Porsche 962 chassis.
dude a few of them are moldy... what a shame....
At 7:25 that's probably the nicest car in the video, looks like a Porsche 962 road car (Dauer might be in the name), very rare.
The fact that he has an 2001 A8 and not an S8. Shows what type of man he is❤❤❤
It was heart warming to see that our Jay Leno is still the king of cars by a landslide. Nobody has a better kept and well rounded collection.
As impressive as Lenos collection is it's nothing compared to the sultans.
100 steam powered cars will never top having the brand known for suing its customers for nothing build you several one off cars that completely go against its conservative ideals.
Oh hey those are cool ferrar- IS THAT A FIRST GEN RAV4
@7:27 = Dauer 962 street car.. Either 962C sometimes called LM- maybe different but doubtful
Apparently according to google these pictures were taken by an auction photographer in the early 2000’s so theses cars as bad as they were then are probably in horrible decay now…
bro has 5 toyota soarers 😭😭😭 let me hold one
That one at 7:34 is Dauer 962 LM - a road legal version of Group C racing Porche 962
Thing about this collection, is that he had Manufacturers CUSTOM make cars for him. Thats why some of those ferraris and bently's you've never seen before and its because he had them custom make them for him
another example, 7:50 - that isnt a standard F40 interior
The side of cars that gets me is the camper conversion companies. I was hoping you would click on the one that said suburban conversion lol
The silver car you were referring to on 7:33 is a Dauer 962 LM.
If you had a 5 billion dollar collection, you'd think you could bother to have a team to actually maintain it.
7:13 Thats Mr Incredible car 😂💯
What on earth, next to the white RAV 4 at 2:35, that's an HSV VN SS Group A. Very surprised to see a 'hotted up Holden' in this collection!
thx for the pics btw
Thanks for sharing a link. Not too many US cars. Doesn't even own my 99 viper acr. What a looser, now I feel special. :D
This feels like looking at photos taken from the army that were illegal back then but fine now
See the other hand of me just sees the money that could have gone to his people but instead spent it on cars that never get driven.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any modern cars in his collection. All just cars from the 90’s
LOL 2:35 The maroon Holden HSV VN clubsport next to the rav4s 🤣
