Sorry Mate, some points make more sense, some not really, at least to me. It's implied to be an open ending, with the narration going in direction of "life is also struggle, and it's beautiful to overcome", with letting things go and enjoying what You have. The whole point of the game was to show how clinging to something is bad and missing life while living that way. It may also be implied they were pushed to each other by their "butterflies" , which worsened the situation with each reset. It may be story about love, that was never meant to happen, and You could still argue that true. But as open as the interpretation is, You may find copium in fact that after all, they lived together for hundreds of lifetimes, no matter how You would argue this specific ending went, they got plenty of eternal opportunities for happiness with each other.

Same. Two of my relatives died and two butterflies showed up. We live in the city. Butterflies have trouble existing here. Even if its not real it still warms my heart.
I think the universes were ultimately from the perspective of jake and marks mom. Its about them living the same guilt that they could have done better for nicole and mark respectively. The thing is, them manipulating reality from their point of view and making cycles resulted to mark and nicole actually "experiencing" those hundreds of lives, still bearing the same guilt like in the original universe. Jake and marks mom couldn't let go, and this is why they were apologizing in the end. When they let go and trusted in mark and nicole, everything in the original universe continued, and mark and nicole lived great lives despite their loss. The question is, when will they meet again? "Until Then" is the answer because it was not always about the two of them being together and helping each other until reality crumbles, it was also about mark and nicole living their separate lives and overcoming their challenges regardless of meeting. Love doesn't necessarily start from another person, it can also be just from within oneself.
Imagine finding someone(Nicole) who is also experiencing the same as your son's trauma and guilt, interacting with another missing person(Jake) who caused such guilt to the other person changing their lives to meet ASAP to heal and move on, only for them to literally took probably over a 100 resets to finally understand and move on. (Coping theory) I do agree that Mark and Nicole are meant to meet each other, but because of their guilt and regrets, their love ones stepped in to change their Destiny to MEET earlier in their lives to heal, grow, and move on from their guilt. Now everything is okay and the two protagonist are healed, their love ones no longer interfere their Destiny to meet earlier, but instead let Destiny/Tadhana do it's course to meet them somewhere in the future(Coping hard)
Welp when they are in the cafe they're still Young Adults, so its not too late for them to meet eachother this time And Afterall this is both of their first dates
I think one bit you missed about the 2nd ending is that unlike the first ending, Cathy went missing meaning for Mark at least there was some hope she might come back even if it was false. In the 1st ending she was definitely dead and nothing could be fixed hence why he could move on. Especially since Louise concluded they were just wrong about the Deja Vu and there was nothing anomalous.
Honestly Cathy's second fate was worse than the first one. Cause when somebody disappeares they basically get transferred to this little pocket dimension where they relive alternate events like what happened to mark, louise, and Nicole. But the only difference is that they escaped. Imagine Cathy being trapped in there, forced to relive being abused by her parents over and over. Honestly I would've chosen truck kun over that any day. But at least in the true ending she lives

And if you notice carefully looking at their partners, they resemble each other slightly Nicole's Partner somewhat having a similar hairstyle to Mark's And Marks Partner Having the same face structure As Nicole Which hints that in the end, they will truly end up with eachother no matter what.

There are some hints that Mark and Nicole could be a thing in the true ending. Let's start with the obvious: "Tadhana Cafe" where they are means "Destiny Cafe", and the two butterflies show up to watch over them.
The true ending is actually quite an open ending. Mark and Nicole dating someone else doesn't mean there's no possibility they can't be together. There's been hints that they might end up. Tadhana cafe itself is called a Fate or Destiny cafe that mean it is meant for them to meet. Who knows maybe they start dating after seeing each other in that cafe and get married again.
From what I gathered there is a loose connection you could make between the father getting hostile with the mother. Given that he's neutral with Jake, the only reason he'd kill him would be if he got in the way, but that is presuming a lot. Personally I think his mom took him and ran, but then they died as a consequence of them rushing.

I had gotten so much advertisements about this game, it gave me speculation. So I downloaded the demo and loved the the end of the demo, I decided to watch a walkthrough rather than spending money just to make sure and I absolutely loved it and may spend my money on it later on. As much as I do want to believe this popular coping theory, it is possible that she remembered him because she looked at him, and he was happy with his date and felt good about that date before he went. I feel like it is possible in the 3rd act that it was destiny that they will cross paths, not necessarily end up together unfortunately.

The story somewhat reminds me of the anime bunny girl senpai an anime that is actually very well written but I would maybe even say that this is better having similar genre's. Although overall wow never have I seen any game like this the story provided is just insanely good and quite possibly the best story game of this current year or maybe even years to come this will gain and still hold that title as the best story game.

As sad as it is. I think mark and nicole were never supposed to end up together. Infact sadly I think the fate of the universe hangs in them not meeting...or at least. Not making eye contact. In the end, it almost seemed like they saw eachother. Or at least, nicole did. Yet the camera loses focus and we see Mark make eye contact with the waiter instead. Two souls nearly ended the world to get their loved ones to meet, fix eachother. But it got out of hand, it fucked up time. Because it was never meant for them to be together, or even for them to meet. Or, Copium theory: they were meant to meet, but the two souls rushed it and fucked up time. Then they fixed it. The first time Nicole and Mark met, they literally crashed into eachother. Forced together. Abrupt, violent. This time, they see eachother in "destiny" cafe. Just a glimpse, natural. Like the universe saying "it's time"

just binged it the past 2 days, amazing game, makes ya feel all the emotions, joy, anger, sadness, confusion and many more, can recommend. Would be nice if marc and nicole ended up together in the end, by coincidence or by fate or by some other cool idea, but if not thats fine as well, all characters got a pretty nice outcome and it was wrapped up neatly enough.
I was a big fan of Mark and Nicole, and while I was happy for Cath and the others, it didn't feel complete without Nicole and Cath being together.. I like to imagine that there's another universe which has parts of all 3 endings, such as Ryan and Sophia being there but Nicole, Mark, Louise also having a better relationship with each other if you get what I mean. Basically, all the good things about each ending connected together to form one best ending, and I like to imagine that exists somewhere in another universe and we're just seeing what happened in some other universe in the true ending.

If the player truly got attached with Cathy on the first timeline, surely they will not accept the 1st ending and probably watch the whole ending credits and probably get to see the continue screen. I think devs did this intentionally which is very masterful

Here are my thoughts: The original timeline is the one when you put buckets to leaking roofs, in the true ending it is said that Mark's mom and Jake can manipulate the realities in somewhat what they want, so the playthroughs in which Mark's house is more well maintained is also a result of his mom's interference. I think Mark lost his mom and Cathy at the same day on the original timeline this is why he "give up" on searching for Cathy on the 1st playthrough. Also might be the start of his mom's interference later because every time Mark and his mom interact in the void she insist on saving her. So there must be a bad original timeline where Mark lost both at the same day and grieved too much making her mom want to do something about it. Jake might be the one pushing Nicole and Mark together, all Jake wants is to be forgotten by Nicole and move on, he sees in every timeline that Nicole doesn't want to, but with Mark around there seems a chance. This might be why there's no significant changes with Nicole's original timeline backstory and I think the 1st playthrough fulfills that making the ending 1 a good ending nothing happens much until Mark got reminded of Cathy with the CD. This realization might be the cause of the reset leading to the 2nd playthrough. Just my theory but maybe Mark's mom did that reset for a chance to save Cathy and be with Nicole too, which didn't happened sadly and made things worst making the 2nd Ending the bad ending. It didn't fulfill Jake's or Mark's mom wishes. Looking at how Mark acts in 2nd End might be the same with the original bad timeline I mentioned earlier. Now without these interference do you think that the game's 3rd end is the truth at all? What I think is, this game is a bunch of what ifs and the truth is Mark lost both his mom and Cathy at the same day. His mom being on the plane accident and Cathy unalive herself by jumping on the train tracks. why did I think of this? in almost all timelines Cathy's death is a recurring theme. her escape to her parents is also recurring. the rain, the truck specifically the light that shines at Cathy's face, and the insistence of saving her in every timeline. The devs doesn't show it and all her deaths was not "unaliving" but you could sense it in the way the dialogue plays out in 35:55 and at the prologue Mark said he was missing and felt the world ended, his world ended as two special people in his life now gone in the same night. It's devastating. It's sad. like the world ended. So what about Nicole? I do think Nicole is destined to search for Jake's whereabouts and doing so her and Mark's fate will cross paths, who knows? as the prologue says the world didn't end yet. I do still and hopefully think that Mark and Nicole do end up together later like in every timelines. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

The Fictional Route So in the Multiverse Route the game story is real, everything that happens in game happened. This is where I answer your question on how the spirits manipulates reality. My answer is that the game said so. Mark's mom told Nicole that she can kind of make a better life for her son in the void. My theory on the process is that they just threw the "thing" over and over in the void puddle creating quantum tsunamis. What I think happens is that the universe splits creating an/multiple alternate timelines and choosing a timeline that suits their goal. But in doing so the multiverse gets cramped and collided with each other. My theory about the Ruling, is that when multiverse collides some things gets transported to another universe like what happens to the missing people. So imagine the tectonic plates got agitated because of another plate from other universe, it causes the earthquakes. same goes to other calamities, something triggers it when multiverse collides. Next is the Original World Route, There's no spirits, no Multiverse, The world would play out like the game's 3rd ending but Mark gave up searching for Cath, because he's still in shock of her mom's plane missing. Cath died the story ends there. Still open ended since we don't know what happens after. The Fictional Route is my copium to make MarCole Ship still a thing. So after the events in my take on the Original World Route, Nicole and Mark got together and wrote what ifs on their life, making the Fictional story of Until Then. So yeah, it is just a random ending. I do hope I answered your questions and explained my thoughts clearly. 😅

One thing i wanna know is how marks mom and jake died. They just "went missing" but its clear they died since their spirits are shown in the story. So its clear that they died but how? I assume marks mom got into a plain crash and the plain is somewhere in the ocean. But jake idk, him amd his mom left and where just never seen again
I interpret this as the main message of the story - sometimes bad things happen and we don't get any answers. Best we can do is hurt, heal and move on.

This game was AMAZING!!! Easily the best narrative driven game i've played in years and i LOVE that it took so much inspiration from the butterfly effect films as well because those films are some of my most favs to watch. So many things in this game hit me HARD especially with the message of needing to accept and let go and that u cant get your way with everything in life. Easily 10/10 game IMO.
So I wanna talk about the ending a bit and why I don't really like it too much however I will preface this by saying that I think the game is a masterpiece plain and simple. The whole timeline plot at the end has a few important plot holes, why did they (jake, and marks mom) reset the timeline after the first ending, it was clearly shown that they had moved on with their lives Mark and Nicole ended up growing up and eventually marrying and also from the looks of it Mark did get over his grief of Cathy even with him looking at that last gift. Even if he did end up grieving quite a bit at that moment why didn't the loop happen right after Cathy died and instead happened years later. Another is how does the whole time loop resetting help them move on if the idea was for them to go through all this time loop shenanigans to end up meeting each other and go through their grief together for them to finally go back to the "original timeline" how are they able to keep that at the end if time completely reset and they had absolutely no memory of whatever had happened. Finally the actions of Jake and Mark's Mom feel preposterous they caused the death of millions of people so that 2 people could overcome their grief that feels so extreme. Narratively wise it feels slightly wrong too the game for the most part was not about this grand message rather the very interesting and small character moments and a very grounded and down to earth way to tackle certain themes like grief. Whereas the ending somewhat completely betrays the tone of the game by being so extremely cliche and massive which makes you forget about all of those moments that happened. This is just a rant about some criticisms I have with the ending specifically and I do not have only negative things to say about the ending I'd be wondering if anyone shares my sentiment or I'm just crazy. Also if anyone can explain the plotholes that I have listed I would be willing to change my mind on it if it is just a matter of understanding.
The game is a writing masterpiece, until the end. Honestly really confusing and, when you understand, it's just what you said: out of tone and cliche. Things were getting really interesting until the twist of Mark and Nicole being the reason for it to happen. Honestly, the quantum entanglement could've finalized the game greatly, but it seemed like they wanted to expand much more than needed and ended up losing the point. Like, after the true ending, the first gameplay seems good enough. What happened to the Ruling, too? The supernatural touch was strange. Still, one of the best written games I've seen. Sadly, the ending wasn't as good as the rest.

hi i just finished the first cycle and man...i am so glad that i downloaded this game, but in the end after the credits, i clicked "yes" to continue, not knowing that it would start an another cycle. i desperatly need to go back and select scenes from the first cycle to take screenshots lol but i CAN'T pls help me
thank you for explaining this much now i understand so much of this game, but i have some doubts if u could explain tome, when u continue the game on the continue button did the timeline reseted or is it a diferent one? and if it is a different timeline so there is a multiverse on this game and the other timelines where they were damaged they continued that way?, and one last doubt the final ending the true ending is the timeline where everything went perfect?
The game was fun. I enjoyed the story telling, interesting twists, nostalgic with catchy mini games. But the slow burn was not worth it. There were dialogues that were filler and prolonged that I lost interest in the story telling and I had to gather again when the story progresses. A fast forward option and an indicator that I have to move something would be appreciated considering there's a 'select scene' option in the main menu. Anyhow, I'm just happy Louise got herself a happy ending. She's my fave character. The "her research flourished at the cost of her life" would've been poetic. Still, her and Cath deserve best.
Okay, I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but is there anything I have to do to get all endings, besides just playing the game three times? Like, are there certain choices I have to make?
For me I think is a older version of mark (because he a similar pattern on the beard but he just let it grow on the chin in the minute 38:21) where he has to defend cath for many years in that timeline probably the things were so bad in that world that he probably had to fight for survival against other people for food or other supplies in order to try to save Cathy as long as he can’t for him to not see her dying again. Only my opinion though haha

She left the prom due to her parents arriving, they were mistreating her at home (as evident from the ending cutscene) and demanded her to come home only for her to run away

They didnt die from the ruling, rather died before it happened. They suddenly were able to understand because both of them saw each others stories and connected it to their own life, also in earlier loops (as seen from Loop 1-> Loop 2) their memories didnt carry over preventing proper learning. Not trying to be a contrarian, but I feel all these fantastical, multiverse elements dragged the game down quite a bit. It could've worked just fine as purely drama to be unraveled and solved by the player's choices, but it got hard locked in these repeated playthroughs, due to the multiverse thing.
The repeated playthrough are great, and it could've been better if it wasn't for the magic element as you described. Honestly I'm depressed. The first end got me crying, the second cycle was sad as heck and the rest got me thinking "Holy shit", but the last part at that alternative dimension thing just threw everything away. It's still a great game, but it could've been one of the best. Throughout the gameplay, I was thinking "How is this an eight, and not a ten?" and at that part, I realized.

Damn, the game has barely released and we already got full explanations like this, just goes to show how great it is.
I think the universes were ultimately from the perspective of jake and marks mom. Its about them living the same guilt that they could have done better for nicole and mark respectively. The thing is, them manipulating reality from their point of view and making cycles resulted to mark and nicole actually "experiencing" those hundreds of lives, still bearing the same guilt like in the original universe. Jake and marks mom couldn't let go, and this is why they were apologizing in the end. When they let go and trusted in mark and nicole, everything in the original universe continued, and mark and nicole lived great lives despite their loss.
The question is, when will they meet again? "Until Then" is the answer because it was not always about the two of them being together and helping each other until reality crumbles, it was also about mark and nicole living their separate lives and overcoming their challenges regardless of meeting. Love doesn't necessarily start from another person, it can also be just from within oneself.

Imagine finding someone(Nicole) who is also experiencing the same as your son's trauma and guilt, interacting with another missing person(Jake) who caused such guilt to the other person changing their lives to meet ASAP to heal and move on, only for them to literally took probably over a 100 resets to finally understand and move on.
(Coping theory) I do agree that Mark and Nicole are meant to meet each other, but because of their guilt and regrets, their love ones stepped in to change their Destiny to MEET earlier in their lives to heal, grow, and move on from their guilt. Now everything is okay and the two protagonist are healed, their love ones no longer interfere their Destiny to meet earlier, but instead let Destiny/Tadhana do it's course to meet them somewhere in the future(Coping hard)

I think one bit you missed about the 2nd ending is that unlike the first ending, Cathy went missing meaning for Mark at least there was some hope she might come back even if it was false.
In the 1st ending she was definitely dead and nothing could be fixed hence why he could move on. Especially since Louise concluded they were just wrong about the Deja Vu and there was nothing anomalous.
Honestly Cathy's second fate was worse than the first one. Cause when somebody disappeares they basically get transferred to this little pocket dimension where they relive alternate events like what happened to mark, louise, and Nicole. But the only difference is that they escaped. Imagine Cathy being trapped in there, forced to relive being abused by her parents over and over. Honestly I would've chosen truck kun over that any day. But at least in the true ending she lives

Its not that hard but it does get confusing if you haven't seen the whole playthrough
And if you notice carefully looking at their partners, they resemble each other slightly
Nicole's Partner somewhat having a similar hairstyle to Mark's
And Marks Partner Having the same face structure As Nicole
Which hints that in the end, they will truly end up with eachother no matter what.
I just wish there is a timeline when they got together. Damn, Mark and Nicole's journey is so compelling that I wish there is a perfect timeline that everybody is happy with them going together
There are some hints that Mark and Nicole could be a thing in the true ending. Let's start with the obvious: "Tadhana Cafe" where they are means "Destiny Cafe", and the two butterflies show up to watch over them.
The true ending is actually quite an open ending. Mark and Nicole dating someone else doesn't mean there's no possibility they can't be together. There's been hints that they might end up. Tadhana cafe itself is called a Fate or Destiny cafe that mean it is meant for them to meet. Who knows maybe they start dating after seeing each other in that cafe and get married again.

From what I gathered there is a loose connection you could make between the father getting hostile with the mother.
Given that he's neutral with Jake, the only reason he'd kill him would be if he got in the way, but that is presuming a lot.
Personally I think his mom took him and ran, but then they died as a consequence of them rushing.

I had gotten so much advertisements about this game, it gave me speculation. So I downloaded the demo and loved the the end of the demo, I decided to watch a walkthrough rather than spending money just to make sure and I absolutely loved it and may spend my money on it later on.
As much as I do want to believe this popular coping theory, it is possible that she remembered him because she looked at him, and he was happy with his date and felt good about that date before he went. I feel like it is possible in the 3rd act that it was destiny that they will cross paths, not necessarily end up together unfortunately.

The story somewhat reminds me of the anime bunny girl senpai an anime that is actually very well written but I would maybe even say that this is better having similar genre's. Although overall wow never have I seen any game like this the story provided is just insanely good and quite possibly the best story game of this current year or maybe even years to come this will gain and still hold that title as the best story game.

As sad as it is. I think mark and nicole were never supposed to end up together. Infact sadly I think the fate of the universe hangs in them not meeting...or at least. Not making eye contact.
In the end, it almost seemed like they saw eachother. Or at least, nicole did. Yet the camera loses focus and we see Mark make eye contact with the waiter instead.
Two souls nearly ended the world to get their loved ones to meet, fix eachother. But it got out of hand, it fucked up time. Because it was never meant for them to be together, or even for them to meet.
Or, Copium theory: they were meant to meet, but the two souls rushed it and fucked up time. Then they fixed it. The first time Nicole and Mark met, they literally crashed into eachother. Forced together. Abrupt, violent.
This time, they see eachother in "destiny" cafe. Just a glimpse, natural. Like the universe saying "it's time"

just binged it the past 2 days, amazing game, makes ya feel all the emotions, joy, anger, sadness, confusion and many more, can recommend. Would be nice if marc and nicole ended up together in the end, by coincidence or by fate or by some other cool idea, but if not thats fine as well, all characters got a pretty nice outcome and it was wrapped up neatly enough.
I was a big fan of Mark and Nicole, and while I was happy for Cath and the others, it didn't feel complete without Nicole and Cath being together.. I like to imagine that there's another universe which has parts of all 3 endings, such as Ryan and Sophia being there but Nicole, Mark, Louise also having a better relationship with each other if you get what I mean. Basically, all the good things about each ending connected together to form one best ending, and I like to imagine that exists somewhere in another universe and we're just seeing what happened in some other universe in the true ending.

Here are my thoughts:
The original timeline is the one when you put buckets to leaking roofs, in the true ending it is said that Mark's mom and Jake can manipulate the realities in somewhat what they want, so the playthroughs in which Mark's house is more well maintained is also a result of his mom's interference.
I think Mark lost his mom and Cathy at the same day on the original timeline this is why he "give up" on searching for Cathy on the 1st playthrough. Also might be the start of his mom's interference later because every time Mark and his mom interact in the void she insist on saving her. So there must be a bad original timeline where Mark lost both at the same day and grieved too much making her mom want to do something about it.
Jake might be the one pushing Nicole and Mark together, all Jake wants is to be forgotten by Nicole and move on, he sees in every timeline that Nicole doesn't want to, but with Mark around there seems a chance. This might be why there's no significant changes with Nicole's original timeline backstory and I think the 1st playthrough fulfills that making the ending 1 a good ending nothing happens much until Mark got reminded of Cathy with the CD.
This realization might be the cause of the reset leading to the 2nd playthrough. Just my theory but maybe Mark's mom did that reset for a chance to save Cathy and be with Nicole too, which didn't happened sadly and made things worst making the 2nd Ending the bad ending. It didn't fulfill Jake's or Mark's mom wishes. Looking at how Mark acts in 2nd End might be the same with the original bad timeline I mentioned earlier.
Now without these interference do you think that the game's 3rd end is the truth at all? What I think is, this game is a bunch of what ifs and the truth is Mark lost both his mom and Cathy at the same day. His mom being on the plane accident and Cathy unalive herself by jumping on the train tracks. why did I think of this? in almost all timelines Cathy's death is a recurring theme. her escape to her parents is also recurring. the rain, the truck specifically the light that shines at Cathy's face, and the insistence of saving her in every timeline. The devs doesn't show it and all her deaths was not "unaliving" but you could sense it in the way the dialogue plays out in 35:55 and at the prologue Mark said he was missing and felt the world ended, his world ended as two special people in his life now gone in the same night. It's devastating. It's sad. like the world ended.
So what about Nicole? I do think Nicole is destined to search for Jake's whereabouts and doing so her and Mark's fate will cross paths, who knows? as the prologue says the world didn't end yet. I do still and hopefully think that Mark and Nicole do end up together later like in every timelines.
Just wanted to share my thoughts.

1. The Multiverse Route
2. The Original world Route
3. The Fictional Route
So in the Multiverse Route the game story is real, everything that happens in game happened. This is where I answer your question on how the spirits manipulates reality. My answer is that the game said so. Mark's mom told Nicole that she can kind of make a better life for her son in the void.
My theory on the process is that they just threw the "thing" over and over in the void puddle creating quantum tsunamis. What I think happens is that the universe splits creating an/multiple alternate timelines and choosing a timeline that suits their goal. But in doing so the multiverse gets cramped and collided with each other.
My theory about the Ruling, is that when multiverse collides some things gets transported to another universe like what happens to the missing people. So imagine the tectonic plates got agitated because of another plate from other universe, it causes the earthquakes. same goes to other calamities, something triggers it when multiverse collides.
Next is the Original World Route, There's no spirits, no Multiverse, The world would play out like the game's 3rd ending but Mark gave up searching for Cath, because he's still in shock of her mom's plane missing. Cath died the story ends there. Still open ended since we don't know what happens after.
The Fictional Route is my copium to make MarCole Ship still a thing. So after the events in my take on the Original World Route, Nicole and Mark got together and wrote what ifs on their life, making the Fictional story of Until Then. So yeah, it is just a random ending.

I interpret this as the main message of the story - sometimes bad things happen and we don't get any answers. Best we can do is hurt, heal and move on.

This game was AMAZING!!! Easily the best narrative driven game i've played in years and i LOVE that it took so much inspiration from the butterfly effect films as well because those films are some of my most favs to watch. So many things in this game hit me HARD especially with the message of needing to accept and let go and that u cant get your way with everything in life. Easily 10/10 game IMO.

So I wanna talk about the ending a bit and why I don't really like it too much however I will preface this by saying that I think the game is a masterpiece plain and simple. The whole timeline plot at the end has a few important plot holes, why did they (jake, and marks mom) reset the timeline after the first ending, it was clearly shown that they had moved on with their lives Mark and Nicole ended up growing up and eventually marrying and also from the looks of it Mark did get over his grief of Cathy even with him looking at that last gift. Even if he did end up grieving quite a bit at that moment why didn't the loop happen right after Cathy died and instead happened years later. Another is how does the whole time loop resetting help them move on if the idea was for them to go through all this time loop shenanigans to end up meeting each other and go through their grief together for them to finally go back to the "original timeline" how are they able to keep that at the end if time completely reset and they had absolutely no memory of whatever had happened. Finally the actions of Jake and Mark's Mom feel preposterous they caused the death of millions of people so that 2 people could overcome their grief that feels so extreme. Narratively wise it feels slightly wrong too the game for the most part was not about this grand message rather the very interesting and small character moments and a very grounded and down to earth way to tackle certain themes like grief. Whereas the ending somewhat completely betrays the tone of the game by being so extremely cliche and massive which makes you forget about all of those moments that happened.
This is just a rant about some criticisms I have with the ending specifically and I do not have only negative things to say about the ending I'd be wondering if anyone shares my sentiment or I'm just crazy. Also if anyone can explain the plotholes that I have listed I would be willing to change my mind on it if it is just a matter of understanding.

The game is a writing masterpiece, until the end. Honestly really confusing and, when you understand, it's just what you said: out of tone and cliche. Things were getting really interesting until the twist of Mark and Nicole being the reason for it to happen. Honestly, the quantum entanglement could've finalized the game greatly, but it seemed like they wanted to expand much more than needed and ended up losing the point. Like, after the true ending, the first gameplay seems good enough. What happened to the Ruling, too? The supernatural touch was strange.
Still, one of the best written games I've seen. Sadly, the ending wasn't as good as the rest.

thank you for explaining this much now i understand so much of this game, but i have some doubts if u could explain tome, when u continue the game on the continue button did the timeline reseted or is it a diferent one? and if it is a different timeline so there is a multiverse on this game and the other timelines where they were damaged they continued that way?, and one last doubt the final ending the true ending is the timeline where everything went perfect?
The game was fun. I enjoyed the story telling, interesting twists, nostalgic with catchy mini games.
But the slow burn was not worth it. There were dialogues that were filler and prolonged that I lost interest in the story telling and I had to gather again when the story progresses. A fast forward option and an indicator that I have to move something would be appreciated considering there's a 'select scene' option in the main menu.
Anyhow, I'm just happy Louise got herself a happy ending. She's my fave character. The "her research flourished at the cost of her life" would've been poetic. Still, her and Cath deserve best.
There's no filler dialogue my man. The natural touch is part of the literature. It's just not your style, doesn't mean it isn't good.

For me I think is a older version of mark (because he a similar pattern on the beard but he just let it grow on the chin in the minute 38:21) where he has to defend cath for many years in that timeline probably the things were so bad in that world that he probably had to fight for survival against other people for food or other supplies in order to try to save Cathy as long as he can’t for him to not see her dying again. Only my opinion though haha

They didnt die from the ruling, rather died before it happened.
They suddenly were able to understand because both of them saw each others stories and connected it to their own life, also in earlier loops (as seen from Loop 1-> Loop 2) their memories didnt carry over preventing proper learning.

To get the true ending you have to play through 3 complete playthroughs

Not trying to be a contrarian, but I feel all these fantastical, multiverse elements dragged the game down quite a bit. It could've worked just fine as purely drama to be unraveled and solved by the player's choices, but it got hard locked in these repeated playthroughs, due to the multiverse thing.
The repeated playthrough are great, and it could've been better if it wasn't for the magic element as you described. Honestly I'm depressed. The first end got me crying, the second cycle was sad as heck and the rest got me thinking "Holy shit", but the last part at that alternative dimension thing just threw everything away. It's still a great game, but it could've been one of the best. Throughout the gameplay, I was thinking "How is this an eight, and not a ten?" and at that part, I realized.
