I am A-positive & CMV-negative My husband is also the same blood type & is CMV - negative. We donate to the Red Cross. CMV -negative is a much needed blood.
I have a friend that was not advices that the kidney they received was infected with CMV. Now her spouse doesn’t want to be intimate without using protection. They have been married 22 years. I really feel for her. This info should have been provided prior to the transplant. She was negative before. She and her spouse has a fear of transferring CMV
That’s so crazy. My friends doctor told her it would be criminal if she knew the kidney had CMV and turned it down. I was like that’s insensitive to say and criminal on his part
As a child my dad never has cmv... when he had his liver transplant in 2012 he got it from the donor. He got cmv and got very sick ... he got meds to combat it and it did fight it off...at the time of transplant the mayo clinic said he have a very strong heart... they tested that because they almost killed him with a botched chem stress test.......now in 2019/2020 he has been struggling with breathing and now has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure . Im just wondering if cmv effects the heart as well..his heart function is at 20% ... and here we go again.
@@areebafatima_ well i didnt have it my dad did. if you dont have a good immunity or a suppressed immunity it can be horrible... it can attack your eyes and make you go blind. (it attacks different organs) its like having the flu on going... they make medications to combat it but ive forgot what meds. if you have a good immune system then your body just fights it off and you never detect it.
@@mammam9679 if you are not immune compromised then yes. In fact 80% of healthy adults have the cmv virus. But if you are immune compromised you have to be on the guard for the infection symptoms to get treatment immediately because it can be life threatening
I had a bone marrow transplant and cmv activated at a number of 40,000 my blood parameters are very low and I’m taking 600 mg of valcyte everyday. Is this the reason why I have low blood counts ?
I hope you're doing well. Where you able to get an answer? My dad had a bone marrow transplant and CMV keeps coming back. There seems to be a correlation between CMV and lower blood counts. At least for my dad.
Thanks, Osmosis you're making our courses easy
I had this after my bone marrow transplant. It's pretty common to get after a transplant and really serious.
GirtheAlienGoldfish hope you’re doing better now 😊

If they tell you the donor had this, skip it. Turn it down. I'm learning the hard way.

They didn’t even tell me or my parents, they just gave it to me.

My donors lungs have cmv. I do not.
I never knew how serious this is.
Fanstastic video!! The cell pictures are so cute (the irony)
My mom has this post transplant---in her brain. I'm furious that her care team let me down.
