Metaphor for a missing moment
Pull me into your perfect circle
One womb
One shape
One resolve
Liberate this will
To release us all
Gotta cut away, clear away
Snip away and sever this
Umbilical residue that's
Keeping me from killing you
And from pulling you down with me in here
I can almost hear you scream
Give me
One more medicated peaceful moment
One more medicated peaceful moment
And I don't wanna feel this overwhelming
Hostility
Because I don't wanna feel this overwhelming
Hostility
Gotta cut away Clear away
Snip away and sever this
Umbilical residue
Gotta cut away Clear away
Snip away and sever this
Umbilical residue that's
Keeping me from killing you
Keeping me from killing you
----------------------------------------- All a perfect circle songs in this us3r
My favorite Perfect Circle song. And to think I used to dislike them. What a TOOL I was.
ROCKaholic see what you did there ;)
ROCKaholic haha!u TooL!
ROCKaholic My insides, you fuck, there melting with cringe worthy distaste.
ROCKaholic Sometimes we can be really wrong about things. Like, I used to hate Mexican food, but now Mexican food is my favorite type of food! I also used to hate spaghetti. Fool I was! Or should I say Tool?
Giselle Freude spaghetti is fucking delicious.
I'm 51 and just discovered a perfect circle about 9 moths ago. I feel cheated,........like I have missed something great.
+Jen Ledford APC and Tool always come at the right moment. Don't worry it's better than never get to know them ;)
+Jen Ledford sənin qucağında nəvə oynadan vaxtındı ay oğraş,durub burda perfect circle dan danışırsan
+Jen Ledford its never too late. You have plenty of life left to enjoy APC
+Jen Ledford Maynard of APC/TOOL/Puscifer is 51 this year actually so you're fine to have missed him, he was in school with you while you were listening to the same music.
+Jen Ledford the Internet is a powerful thing.
I sat on the floor sobbing listening to this on repeat in 2001 when I lost my first child. It has since been a.constant for me.when I need to go.back to that time, and honor that little life. This song hits me so many ways its crazy
I am extremely sorry life is this confusing and cold. But know that your baby is in a much better place than we could ever imagine. I’m so sorry that this happened. We are selfish in our desire to hold on to those that we love, but believe me, they are in extremely good hands with G-d.
I'm really sorry you had to go through that :(
Why does this song feels like a spell? It's like it pulls something from inside me. Everytime I listen to it I cry
It's a beautiful but sad song.
Because it's about Recovery.. the longest, hardest road...
The avàtars lament.
Almost 20 years ago...on the brink of suicide...this album made it worse, yet better...and I made it through
Same for me. Saved my life so many times.
This song is about getting rid of the things that hurt you the most yet they are the things you love the most.
pretty sure its about Maynards dying mom.
@@alvinduran5540 exactly dude, he had to let her go but he loved her more than anything
None of you know the story of Orestes do you.. O'well.. Yes, abused children can relate well to this..
Pretty sure its Maynard wrestling with killing his suffering mother
Yeah... My life long love, who loves me back, will never be ready to slow down enough to just be with me *legit* so that we can just exist together... I have to let her live.... It's painful
This is one of those songs that I will always keep with me throughout my life journey. It haunts me like an old friend.
most of their songs are like that for me. so wonderful
awesome Holly
Your friends sound awful
does anyone else get shivers by the way he handles his voice in 1.24-1.25?
it's like he's tossing his voice away and then gently grabbing it back,in such a harmonious way,it's genial.i know it's a detail but it gets me everytime.
musically, this is one of my favourite songs, and it wouldn't be the same without this beautiful voice, blending perfectly with everything else.
"Give me one more medicated peaceful moment!" I know how you feel. I really really do. I don't want to feel this overwhelming hostility anymore either. Life is fucking hard. Detoxing off of opiates this morning. Day 2. I'm in so much discomfort. And it's just going to get worse. Luckily I have this album to keep me company.
Keep it up. After it gets worse, it _will_ get better. So glad you have this album to help you.
Good luck :)
Im there now.
@@terrytrigg4771 i was there 2 years ago. As I sit here now typing this to you I promise you one thing that’s absolutely no bullshit....you have the power and strength to succeed in sobriety. Things start turning around at the one year mark cause that first year is usually rebuilding finances and belongings and relationships. Dont get discouraged. At the two year mark, I just started not living paycheck to paycheck. I eat what I want when I want. I buy what I want within reason. I was there scraping quarters and dimes for mcdonalds once a day only two years ago and didnt believe it was possible. Dont give up!
I know this comment is a year old. Hope you made it. Been there years ago. Sad thing is I would pop any opiate qt a drop of a hat rn. Getting old and chronic pain (mental and physical) really sucks.
Orestes is the main character of Greek tragedy Electra by Sophocles, who avenged the murder of his father Agamemnon by killing his own mother, Clytemnestra.
"Umbilical residue that's
Keeping me from killing you
"
Jesus Christ
Maynard’s lyrics *11/10*
I was just thinking about Orestes, I heard it first time today
Yep 👍 not everyone knows that, glad to see someone say it
Wrong. Story was from Homer's Odyssey. You are dumb. The play was after the fact. A reference.
It’s 2020 and this songs STILL makes me cry every time
Reminds me how fucked I am.js
Seek help my friend
@Big Smoke it's not about abortion
@Big Smoke nope. you are wrong. it's about his mother and life support/his tumultuous childhood and feeling resentment towards parental figures. And the song draws parallels to the Oresteia, which is why it's called Orestes. That trilogy of tragedies is not about abortion.
@Big Smoke No.
"Metaphor for a missing moment" probably my favorite opening bars to a song.
This song is a 10 out of 10. Maynards voice is perfect, Never have I heard a male voice greater than this.
jupiterand neptune same
I love Maynard, A perfect circle more than the rest I have 3 girls named after the mer de noms album( RoseBrenaMagdalena). I have to say his voice is amazing but have you heard Corey Taylor's? OMG talk about vocals true voice of a fallen angel...
Freddie Mercury, Chris Cornell, Bono and many other voices.
Agreed. Completely.
There are many other good voices, probably even better ones, but MJK's voice has something that makes it unique, beautiful, peaceful yet unnerving. There are other good voices, but there is only one MJK
this takes me back to a very happy but dark place and time.
I know EXACTLY what you mean...
me too. its weird when music does that
Me too man, me too.
your mom's place
+PewDiePie hdd i was just thinking your moms place
He keeps his vocals at the front of his mouth with this and it makes it sound so unique and natural, not a lot of people can pull that off like this
The beauty is in the simplicity. He sings as if he's talking. That's how I makes sense of it when I sing him

YES!!!! I play this part on repeat all the time.
Indeed
yes
Cut away…clear away…
I used to listen to this song all the time in college. I just realized its about Orestes and his mother Clytemnestra from the Oresteia trilogy. She killed her husband, Agamemnon because partly out of revenge for her daughter Iphigenia and because of her illicit relationship with her husband's cousin. Apollo drive Orestes to kill his mother and in turn he was nearly drove insane by the Furies because of the matricide. This song was a condensed version of Orestes. Ingenious.
I'm reading Agamemnon for my World Literature class. I sort of know the story, but the fact that I'm actually going to study it and learn about it makes me so happy. This song is so beautiful and accurate to your description.
I did not know that. Thanks for your post.
and Billy wrote it...at least he did the original singing
Today I learned
so yes Shakespeare does have his masters.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever made, IMO. Maynard's style of singing, the instruments, good stuff.
Absolutely. It speaks to my soul ❤
Nice trolling, newb
Joshua Stone+ As far as I'm concerned, it's one of the greatest composed.
Nocturnal Recluse yes so true still till now one of the unlimited favourite songs of all time these days songs have become so technical just be free with the instruments you hold and the vocals you have!
If you need to qualify your opinion, by explaining that it may not be "in line" with someone else's opinion, when opining about 'A Perfect Circle', then you are oblivious to 'A Perfect Circle'. PERIOD.
one of the greatest songs ever made. hands down.
Jamie Darren I agree
3 Libs and Passive are better.
hands down... and the live version from 2010 is better.
Absolutely. Most beautiful song ever. This and 3 Libras have me in tears every time I listen
OMG fuck yes it is not even debatable!!!
"give me one more medicated peaceful moment" Amen brother!
Right?!

This one is a masterpiece!
My boyfriend showed me this song and sang it while driving and I could literally feel myself fall even further in love with him. Now whenever I hear it, I think of him.
Good song but just not the song for me to cover. I let this be! Thank you though! Hope you guys can see my other song covers in review contents! Thank You! 🤘🎶🎸

It’s hauntingly beautiful, and Maynard is amazing at actually making you feel. Sounds like he’s got good taste in music. This is maybe my favorite of all songs. It is just beautiful.
@@mysteriousj2448 no one asked you to cover this. Why ruin such a wholesome comment?
I have ALWAYS loved Maynards voice...his lyrics....AWESOME!
There is a lyrical genius in any man who can use the word umbilical in a song and make it sound this damn good!
maynards voice and billy's music intertwine so wonderfully on this song
Great duo
From what I understand, all musical arrangements were made by Billy. I think he pretty much wrote the whole fkn CD. But yes, I agree with ya bro. Maynard is a perfect voice for this group.
Billy on all vocals this song.
Who's still listening to them ? 2019 ?
SERIOUSLY? Are you lost or just discovered? Once you know; you will never need to ask. Jus sayin!
I will listen to them until the day I take my last breath

Boud' BADRI I still have the cd
So many layers in this, Maynard really created a symphony here.
I've been a diehard tool fan honestly ever since I was a little kid. But when I found a perfect circle I really understood the complexity that Maynard has. Unbelievable.
After all these years, I still feel this is probably the best APC songs ever done.
"And I Don't wanna FEEL this Overwhelming..HOSTILITYYYY!" man idk y, but thats always been my favorite line. I love the whole song, but singing along to this in my car i love that line, you can apply it to whatever you're going through
One of my favorite bands, this song cannot be overplayed
The thing Maynard has going for him more than anything else is how unique his voice is.
I literally listen to this song like five times a day. There is no words that can describe this song. There are many songs about pain but this song is different. It really speaks to me as if I am Maynard.
I was a little too obsessed with this song back then.
I still am
same for me buddy

Lmao someone did not watch Little Nicky, You might get the joke if you do. I watch Naruto cause of its spiritual elements, ones religion will never have. I always seem to be drawn to APC in the fall.. Never fails every year
+Cassidy Weddle Apc drew your portrait last fall? Thats so awesome. And they do it every year? Where at? How much?
to be drawn is simply the passive form of to draw meaning to pull or to attract. It would be cool if they did though.
+Cassidy Weddle Totally agree! Mer De Noms is perfect Halloween music.
Cassidy Weddle for some reason its winter for me
nice
In my 20's, I found out the girl I was madly in love with cheated on me while listening to this song.
I put it on repeat for an hour like a crazy person and cried, ever since then its been difficult to listen to but also something I can't stay away from.
Maynard really knows how to bring out the pain.
Woah man thats very sad and deep... im very sorry that happened to you
Patricia Tortolini Wow, thanks for caring! Deceit is something we all experience on some level, music like this helps us feel, understand and process it. Everything certainly worked out for the best :)
Gotta cut away..

Man this is some heavy shit right there
im a big old school hip hop head and im 41 years old now, but besides hip hop im just a HUGE MUSIC HEAD!! IT doesnt matter what genre of music classic rock, 80s hair metal, 80s new wave, 90s alternative and grunge era, and this which i just consider great rock in the early 2000s this reminds me of being 21 going to strip clubs in the summer and coming home and playing this album smoking a nice blunt lol music back then was great and hearing this just brings me back to a time when my life was good!!! Respect to anybody playing this in 2020 from a guy from New Jersey!!!!
Omg dude ur so cool u r like me I'm 21 now in 2021 smoking a fat blunt to this album except I dont go to strip clubs lol 🤣🤣
DEEP SONG!! Don’t wanna feel this .........
I regard APC as a more feminine sound compared to Tool which is great.
The melodies are brooding, soft but never incredibly heavy sounding. The heaviness to me comes from the emotional undertones of the vocals =]
Franky Novotny that's a really good way to put it...cheers
Much in the way Tom Morrello was able to try different tones with Audioslave
Reminiscent of Katatonia's future direction
I don’t regard it in that way, but you’re not wrong.
Maynard just spells out what I feel every time!
Ever since I was 15 years old this has been my favorite song!!!
Maynard James Keenan pure fucking vocalist...
best song on the album imo.

Without any doubt. Brena and 3 Libras a distant 2nd.

Probably my favorite song ever. It has a warm and melancholic feeling, takes me back to a really dark but confortable place
This song makes me feel a kind of sorrow that I cannot explain, it half feels good and half feels terrible. This song reminds of someone I used to know but lost somewhere
it was yesterday that an old friend graduated at my high-school as a senior while i was a junior. i was listening to this song on the bus in the very back seat nearly crying because i finally felt... free. our relationship was so taxing, so messy. i ended things with them due to many reasons and so much pain happened. this song among others means so much to me, because it reminds me of them-- the beauty of our friendship, the hurt, the emotional release. im gonna miss them.
wherever you are, old friend, i really do hope you take care despite everything. i hope what we've made together is still remembered at least. goodbye

Im healed now and stumbled upon this again at 3am and now i know why i could feel emotions to this. These are real emotions that finds the receiver no matter what you have been through for ever and ever.
Just tossing in my two cents, since we all love discussing our interpretations of songs by Maynard.
I think this is another song venting his frustration over his mother being ill, since he repeatedly mentions things signifying a child's connection to their mother. Judith Marie suffered a LOT over the course of her life and especially toward the end. It's common for family members of terminally ill patients to feel a desire to end the suffering of their loved one, and it's very much something that they feel guilt over ("I don't wanna feel this overwhelming hostility.") The very name of the song, Orestes, references a character in Greek mythology who, despite many variations of his tale, is most notably known for having killed his mother.
very well put
Thank you.
Agreed that this does have to do with his mother, however as the name of the song is Orestes, I have a slightly different view. Parents stand so tall in a child's life and well into adulthood for many of us. You are so correct about her suffering, and I view a younger Maynard not being able to understand how she could hold steadfastly to her beliefs while being left in her state. He shows us at least partially how he feels regarding this, in "Judith". One would have to assume that if she was that religious then this would have been taught to him in the same home, or perhaps at least related. Therefore, because of the name Orestes, I view it as his rejection of mom's beliefs, because through his eyes these beliefs did not help her. In fact, I think it shows his anger with her over this "belief" that ultimately didn't save her.
However, as you correctly stated, these are just opinions. Take good care
I'm Venezuelan so excuse me if my English is a little poor
What you said I thought is a correct way to say the MEANINGS for the writter to express something about his own life experience meanwhile and this is the artist value for me, he is EXPRESSIONG literally an ancient story of ORESTES and his own desire to kill his own mother by reclaiming revenge for his father murder. This in my opinion is an incredible way to express how you can translate outside things into your own experiences. HAPPINES FOR ALL APC FAN
There are also certain guitar parts in this song that kinda sound like Judith's.
Just don't want to feel this overwhelming hostility.
It's a blessing to be alive during the time of a perfect circles creation of these truly amazing songs... people we better appreciate greatness when we hear it.. this is absolutely fantastic music
My favorite one. This is far too beautiful.
my sister bought this album just for 3 libras, then i basically stole it from her and fell in love with apc lol.

Brings back a lot of painful memories.
It's amazing how much a song can impact you. Regardless of the pain I'm reminded of, I cannot ever stop listening to this masterpiece of a song.
So many memories with this song, it reminds me of those days where I was " in the process of finding myself" after a very hard time in my life.

One of the great vocal performances,
This song always reminds me of women I have lost. But it reminds me to keep what was best about them close to me, and grow with it.
