Remy had the following to say about his choice of recording this song:
''The second song of the Home Studio Sessions that I'm releasing is Perth, by Bon Iver. Bon Iver has grown to be one of my favourite bands and Justin Vernon is probably the most pure and vulnerable singer I've ever heard. I remember seeing their NPR session some years ago and I couldn't believe what I heard and saw. The music is so organic, raw, pure and Vernon's voice pierces through skin like nothing else... I love the blend between folk and electronic music in their music, combining seemingly simple songs with huge complexity in structure and instrumentation.
I am actually not convinced you can really call this release a cover; it's probably more of an impression of this song, or variation, featuring one of my favourite guitar licks of the last few decades: tu-du-duuuu-du-du-du...... I can listen to those four notes for ages. It was actually in the middle of an improvisation during my last tour in Amsterdam when I suddenly found myself playing this lick and discovering the song on the spot! It was a special moment that I decided to capture once I returned to my studio.''
The additional production on this track was made by producer Richard Veenstra, known as xndr. The two musicians met in Berlin, where they clicked immediately after a spontaneous studio session. The ‘45 REC. Sessions’ is their first project in this collaboration in which we as listeners are a fly on the wall. Both musicians in turn challenge and strengthen each other.
’’Richard and I are natural collaborators. As a producer and sound designer he gives my arrangements more depth and space. Just like me, he likes the more raw sound of the harp, combined with electronics.’’ says Remy about this new collaboration.
For 2020 Remy has planned a club tour with his band, where xndr will join as well. The tour will end with a special night in Amsterdam, where Remy will play a concert with both his band and the Analogue Robot Orchestra.
