The Eurovision Song Contest 1994 was the 39th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 30 April 1994 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ), and presented by Cynthia Ní Mhurchú and Gerry Ryan, the contest was held in Ireland following the country's victory at the 1993 contest with the song "In Your Eyes" by Niamh Kavanagh. It was the first time that any country had hosted two successive editions of the contest, following the previous year's contest held in Millstreet.
Twenty-five countries participated in the contest, which for the first time featured a relegation system to reduce the number of interested participating countries. Seven new countries participated in the event, with entries from Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia featuring for the first time. However, Belgium, Denmark, Israel, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Turkey were unable to compete due to the new relegation rules as the lowest-scoring countries at the previous event, whereas Italy decided against participating by choice.
For the third time in a row, Ireland won the contest with the song "Rock 'n' Roll Kids", written by Brendan Graham and performed by Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan. Never before had a country won three times in a row in the history of the contest; at the same time, it was also a record sixth win, cementing Ireland as the country with the most wins in Eurovision history up till that point. Poland, Germany, Hungary and Malta rounded out the top five positions, with Poland achieving the most successful result for a début entry in the contest's history.
The 1994 contest also featured the first appearance of Riverdance. Originally a seven-minute performance of traditional Irish and modern music, choral singing and Irish dancing featured as part of the contest's interval act, it was subsequently developed into a full stage show which has since become a worldwide phenomenon and catapulted the careers of its lead dancers Jean Butler and Michael Flatley.

such a good year! probably the best of the 90s
one of the all time best years.... love it
So true!
I ve been waiting for this!!!!
One of the best ESC years ever, IMO. I like all of the entries. My favourites are the Netherlands, Hungary and Russia. Ireland, Germany, Estonia, Sweden, the UK and Poland were pretty good too. Thanks for a fantastic youtube channel 🎉
Best production
Best orchestra
Magnificent stage
Every song is a masterpiece in its own way
The best eurovision of all time for me
Oh wow, it's been a while since the two of us were *this* different in our rankings! Three of your bottom fives are in my top 10 - and some of your top 5s are in my bottom 5 XD
Meanwhile, two of his bottom three are in my top three 😂
Loved that irish ballad! I completely agree with your analysis ( nothing more to say just listen to these magical minutes ; that 's what music is about : simplicity, harmony and feelings)
Thanks for your time, Lucas
This video confirmed what I've thought all along-Rock n Roll Kids really is the best song this year.
It's one of Ireland's strongest winning entries.
I beg to differ but it's a very beautiful song.
Cyprus is my 2nd place. Heavily underrated and I'm from Northern Cyprus saying this as a Turkish Cypriot
I prefer Evrydiki's 1992 entry (my winner that year) but I agree on the underrated part.
Wow your taste is excellent! Thank you for sharing
My top 3
1🇮🇪
2🇵🇱
3🇷🇺
Rock and Roll kids has always been one of my all time favourite Eurovision song.❤️👍🏼
Great top! 1994 was an amazing Eurovision year. I absolutely agree about Rock'n'Roll Kids being Ireland's best winning song, I love it so much. To this day, I'm also obsessed with Russia's song, I still listen to it on repeat from time to time. What a debut, imo it's their best ESC song by far. And oh, thanks for appreciating our 🇪🇪 entry, I'm so subjective ofc but I really think that it was totally, undeservedly underrated back then. Silvi Vrait was a gorgeous singer with such an unique and powerful voice, may she rest in peace ❤️
It’s great to see someone else not underrating Estonia’s entry. It’s in my top 10. But Cyprus is my number one❤
Estonia seem to do much better in these polls compared to the reality
The strongest edition ever for me. My top 5:
1. Portugal
2. Poland
3. Hungary
4. Ireland
5. Germany
All of them are winner worthy.
I also ADORE the songs from Russia, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
My birth year was one of the strongest ever❤
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands (Rotterdam city)

Kinek mondjam el vètkeimet ❤🇭🇺
I love it! ❤❤❤
Hungary is my number one from that year.
Do Eurovision winners to worst to best
Israel 2018 is his least favorite
@@FFFlemish Easily. Last of his top before and after the show.
I wonder if @gwentheperfectqueen8355 is just going to comment here just so she can whine about how "Bye Bye Baby" should've gotten zero points instead of Lithuania.
Yes, I know it's a weird thing to bring up but I'm only saying that because I've seen her commenting on other Eurovision 1994 top videos where she complains about how Finland should've gotten zero points instead of Lithuania, which is something I most definitely disagree with (I'm not Finnish or Lithuanian btw) because saying that "Bye Bye Baby" should've gotten zero points is honestly the lowest that anyone has ever said about that song and also very disrespectful too, though that's just how she is, plus she already said the same thing about France in 1960 and Ireland in 1986.
But Lithuania shouldn't have gotten zero point either.
1. Poland
2. Cyprus
3. Estonia
4. Hungary
5. Iceland
It's one of my favourite years.
Watched full show 7 times at least, I simply like the quality of ballads that time. My favouritesare Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia and Russia (it's ridiculous how the first and last for now performances of my country were both sung in russian language by nonrussian women dressed in red and both placing 9th. I think, that our first appearance was the best)
I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one capable of watching the same show more than 5 times 😂 some more than 10 times as well
@@aleksanderpagels288 I've watched it more than that. And becos it was Orthodox Easter on that Saturday night, lots of people must have recorded it to watch it later.
What a wonderful year;also the year when my country 🇷🇴 made their debut.
My top is:
10) Portugal (I like it but it's not taking me all the way in)
09) Iceland (just nice)
08) Netherlands (a beautiful song but something is missing for me and I don't know what)
07) Cyprus (my 1992 winner is really doing her best to sell her piece and I'm buying the emotion)
06) Ireland (less good than "In your eyes" but it's a very beautiful ballad and I'm not mad it won)
05) Estonia (I think it's the melody for me)
04) Croatia (solid performance from everyone)
03) Lithuania (totally undeserved last place)
02) Poland (an incredible song and an incredible singer)
01) Hungary (a slow song but so lovely I feel it takes me in its arms which it doesn't have since songs don't have arms)
My last place was France (the only time I ranked my own country last but I really don't like that song).
My winner is Ireland,but also I like Portugal ❤, United Kingdom,Sweden, Finland,Poland,Hungary,Germany,
It was a great year.
Am I the only one who has Romania in their top 3
@@danuostret1900 it's in my top 5, really strong year though
Far from it (;
You and me both!
Its in my top 10
Top 3 for me

Odd to think that Poland has come nowhere near scaling these heights in the meantime
Can you do 1973 next?
How is this out the same day im watching 1994 for the first time, crazy things
2ND PLACE THO🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
#2 Sara's eyes have always scared me.
Ime anthropos ki ego (Cyprus) is maybe my favourite esc song of all time, tied up with Rspodia (Italy 1992), the lyrics are also worth checking! Anyway, here's my top 25, you're more than welcome to bash me in the comments:

Portuguese singer died this year...
"Rock 'n Roll Kids" is an absolute 10? More like 12 ;)
Estonia so deserved first 😮
#13 I guess they were lucky that it's not a singing competition. As much fun as the song and performance may be, it's terrible to listen to.
Russia, Hungary and Poland ❤❤❤
Uk deserved to win
Norway deserved the win this year
hungary is my winner
🙋♀️ Mine too. ❤❤❤
