Yeah that kind of in the same group as 4, call it 4.5. I would also add the substat high roll or low roll when it gets the enhancement bonus.. for example crit r 3.5% gets to either 6% or 9.5% in 1 up
The craziest thing to me personally is how some people seem to be offended when someone criticizes the artifact system. Like, folks, I get it... the combat is good, the characters are charismatic, the lore is indeed interesting and intricate (Main story is absolutely insipid), but Genshin is far from a perfect game. And issues just become more and more glaring when you realize how much money this game makes per gacha banner. But anyway, that's neither here nor there... The simplest and best compromise to the artifact system in GI would be abolishing the use of resin in artifact domains. *JUST* artifact domains. Fine, Mihoyoverse, you want to keep your rng on top of rng bullshit? Keep it. But let me farm as much as I want. It's freaking disheartening to do 8 artifact domain runs *at most* per day, not getting anything even slightly usable and then having to wait 21h to try again, especially when you're f2p/Welkin Moon buyer. In the medium to long run, that ends up destroying any joy you could derive from pulling a new character from the gacha. Yay, 3 to 6 more months before I can even use what I just got after saving primos for 2-3 months! And before I forget, let's not ignore how the artifact system makes the already terrible new player experience even worse. Anyway, great video. Keep up the good work.
I like to call them “Mihiyo’s paid dickriders” simply due to the extreme biased responses they give, acting as if Mihiyo’s system is flawless, which I refuse to believe anyone can be that dumb so they must be getting paid
how the hell there's still people that defending that shitty system, i don't get it at all i don't mind the gacha and the rest of rng, but the artifact and artifact alone are the shittiest one seems these people feed their ego on the fact that they get good artifact and flex it to people that have bad rng, and changing the system are ruining that feeding ground of theirs
Honestly the biggest deterrent I think this game has for new players is this jank artifact system. Yeah story and exploration are fantastic, but playing for long term is just suffering. And I am a gacha veteran! Genshin isn't my first gacha game, but I have never seen a game screw their players so bad with RNG just to make them play longer until Genshin. I really hope they make changes to it because of that recent survey specifically asking about it, but I'm keeping my expectations low from Hoyoverse
honestly i think the fact that you have to pretty much catch up with the latest content to be able to upgrade the new characters past lvl 40 is enough of a deterrent for new players - at least if they got into the game for the newest characters. but yea overall i think the artifact system is one of, if not the worst thing about this game
Banners for characters, that thy cant level, because they did not unlock that area/story yet The worst cost of gacha ( tons of money for so little pulls ) *other problems for later players* Non-existant late game ( I still cant 36 star abyss, even as Day1 player, because of my choices with char banners. Mostly teams, Last Abyss runs were Cryo ( and now geo ) centric and my geo team isnt good enough ).... there can be more, they already did so many things, that could very well be permanent and people are begging them to make them permanent just so there is more to do Game where you are trying to max your team without a proper way to test how you do. Even a game from 2004 ( yes, WOW ) had training dummies, where you could test your damage and there were DPS addons that were so widely used. We need to see numbers, it would be great. Cant pet dogs or cats Housing system is very basic and limiting ... etc.

Honestly, it just feels like Hoyoverse gives their all into the appearance of the game and then screw everything else. Artifacts, late game content, character's kit, character's story and even the lore of the game itself ( *Especially* the Inazuma part ) just look unfinished and even unprofessional. Not only that, but there's something about the female character's that doesn't feel right, *especially* the Inazuma ones. Most of them just feels like a waifu for the nerds, *not a character for the game.* Whilst the male characters tend to have higher quality stories and interactions within the world, like Albedo, Diluc, Zhongli, Venti and even Kaeya who's a 4star. You'd normally expect the same from characters like the Shogun and Kokomi, but they're character stories didn't represent them the way they could have been represented. Eula was a character that had so much potential with her family back round, but was overshadowed because the fandom was too worried about her thighs, her dance and *a fucking sneeze.*
You also forgot to say that when farming for a specific artifact in a domain theres also a chance that you just dont get that artifact at all since theres always 2 sets in a domain..
I've mentioned in multiple surveys how the grind to get a new character up to speed kinda dampens the excitement. Like I only have a small moment of excitement seeing the wish turn gold and it just immediately turns to "ugh, how many months will it take for me to get the right artifacts for this character?" It has lately deterred me from spending money on the game because of how massive of a chore it is to make a new character useable in late-game
This. This is why I'm always saving pieces with good subs just in case a future character might be able to use them. Farming artifacts is just so annoying.

Pretty much. Nowdays i just roll for weapons for the already built chars that i have and if i dont already have atleast some decent stuff for a new character i dont even roll for them. Currently im waiting for yoimiya + thundering pulse rerun since i really like the character and i already have pretty much everything for her (except the thundering pulse).

I feel that at every world level increase from 4 and up, should ad 20 resin to your daily cap. An AR 35 player has 180 resin while an AR 55 player has say 220. Due to the fact that there is more resin to regain, each world level increase also lowers the resin regain time by idk, 30 seconds. The longer you play the more you play, the less you play the more you want to play. edit: tysm for likes, maybe they listen to the community for once?
That would just increase the grind though, with 160 resin i already have to run 4 domains or bosses a day, with 220 or 240 a solid 6 times a day, for the exact same worthless rewards. Increasing the amount of times you spin the wheel doesnt really improve the situation, lessening how often you need to spin does
Someone in chat said this: "Talk about the resin system next!" I fully agree. The amount of time it takes to build a character is ridiculous. The fact that there's nothing for you to use your built characters on is even more ridiculous.
Add that to the fact that you can spend that time before you even get the character. Then you get them and it's, "instant lvl 80" And that just leads to you getting bored and wanting the new shiny thing. It's all by design. It would be great if you could level a character by actually using the character.

i have spent almost a full year of my life trying to build my characters and i still till this day cant 36 abyss if i wanted to its so annoying that you cant do that after so much time spent into the game
I'd like to add that it feels like there's too many "Dead" stats, getting flat anything just feels bad, the effects of flat atk/HP/Def is entirely negligible, the stat values need to be either massively buffed or be calculated differently (i.e. flat atk being included in base atk like how a weapons atk is)

When the new Xiao set came out I was like "yeah imma be using this within a week" since I had over 60 fragile resin saved up. After burning all 60+ fragile and my concentrated daily resin for over a week, I've gotten 1 good flower and trash everything else (in over 150 pieces of 5* star Xiao set). What got me excited about the game again, an upgrade to my main character, became an annoyance and burn out. P.S: when I say trash I don't mean sub optimal, I mean actual trash (Def% /Def/ HP substats), out of something like 30 hourglasses only 2 with main Atk% (Def substats)
Gonna be honest I was malding about artifacts a few days ago. Had the exact situation described, perfect substats but it kept going into ER after ER after ER until it was at 20% ish with every other stat not being touched. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is seeing a near perfect piece slowly devolve into "(insert non crit substat) stat stick". Honestly, only way I can see this system slightly recovered is with artifact rerolls basically allowing you to reset the stats on an artifact so you can roll it again until it's perfect. This both removes some RNG but still forces you to get more fodder to level the piece up again.
I had an onset for my main (Klee) pyro dmg goblet. Crit rate, crit dmg, ER, ATK%. EVERY. SINGLE. ROLL. Went into ER. So it’s 30% ER, but as much crit rate/DMG as a Lv 0 artifact.
I think that's a good idea, but I feel like there would have to be something to do before you reset an artifact, cause like if its easier to just keep rerolling then no one would bother with getting new ones? I mean as you said you need the artifact exp to level it up but think of the people with 1.5k artis in their inventory, wouldn't it become too like, easy? idk
As crazy as it sounds, the artifact system is the system in this game I would most label predatory. Sure pulling for weapons is pretty bad, but to have so many characters lack even half their value without a 4pc set is cruel. And the trend only appears to get worse. Farming for Shogun, Itto and Kokomi has been a nightmare. What threw me into a fury most was getting artifact load outs on the clam set that would be god tier on most other sets. I have several circlets on that set with double crit and atk% rolls, same for the feathers. That’s what threw me into a fury, the fact that I just knew they tweaked the RNG to give you stats that wouldn’t benefit the set. Pulling for characters doesn’t break me, rolling a slot machine with so many variables and barriers to a decent “payout” is what breaks me. Great video as always.
i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought the rng on ocean-hued was somehow tweaked, most of my characters now have ocean-hued as an offset because i keep getting crit substats there

I have had the same thought about MHY who may have tweaked the RNG on sets. I started to suspect it way back on the Thundersoother sets. Fast forward to today? It started to seem more apparent with the ER set. Been farming for months for a good ER sand piece and not once have I gotten a good one.
Yeah I noticed that too while farming for the husk set, seeing how rare def% is in that and how the clam set tend to get crits Funny how the main progression which is getting good artifacts feels more like gambling than the gacha itself I also believe the pieces have different odds like how rare the circlets were compared to feathers

I main Fischl and i'm still not done with her set since genshin launched cause i was fighting artifact RNG yet didn't finish the 1st set, decided to drop the game not long after rosaria hit, then came back not long before yunjin hit to find out there's another set for a main DPS Fischl build... FML
No one likes the artifact system. The people defending it are coming from a place of understanding the thinking behind it, not because they think it's great. Thing is, "decent" artifacts for most characters gets them to around 1800-2000 ATK, 50% CR, and 100% CD, maybe some EM and ER%. A whole team with every character around those thresholds is going to thrash the overworld and domains, even against the spongier enemies, and Hoyoverse isn't very concerned with our abyss performance. They have little compelling reason to make acquiring better artifacts any easier. The way they stat out preview characters suggests they expected us to slot in an HP piece for durability (however enemy lethality is a joke so...) Worse, any improvements (from our perspective) to the artifact RNG becomes the new "average" which in turn becomes the new minimum. People won't be happy until they get exactly the rolls they're looking for. I do wish they would remove the resin cost to get artifacts though, but in turn disable getting mora for deleting them. Make mora (and the artifact carry cap) the limiters on artifact farming, instead of resin. Though in the long term, I'd like if flat sub-stats were doubled in value, and if we could eat an artifact to transfer a single stat to another artifact, slot to slot. It would at least give us the opportunity to salvage artifacts with unfortunate upgrades.
I’ve been farming emblem domain for my raiden and yoimiya for god knows how long and I’ve haven’t gotten a better shim piece in about a month or more, even though my ones now are lack lustre

Honestly, farming artifacts without having to spend resins would be a godsend, or reduce the cost to maybe 5-20, and they should increase the artifacts quantity we can get.Also extending the resin cap and shorten the refill duration would be really great .Hoyoverse please make it true.
no, it would not be great increasing the recharge rate would make players play the game more or feel like they're missing out if they can't. Genshin was made as a game played during the short breaks working people have, it's only supposed to take 10-20 minutes a day. It's not supposed to be the game you play for hours each day, at least not until the game is finished. Increasing the resin cap does the same thing Increasing the artifact quantity would force players to manage their inventory which is far more boring Reducing the cost does the same thing as increasing recharge rate Godroll artifacts are supposed to be a bonus. It doesn't take that long to have a usable piece instead and you can stop any time. Why do you think you deserve to be handed a bonus that's supposed to take a long time to work for on a silver platter? Also, giving everyone godrolled artifacts would force mihoyo to increase the difficulty of the game, nullifying whatever progress you might have made except this time you can't grind to close the power gap since you already have the best artifacts. The gacha would be your only way to progress. Is that the future you want?

Artifacts exist as this place where you can spend resin when you have nothing else you'd need to spend it on, same as weekly bosses. They're not supposed to be efficient. To address your exaggeration that you tried to make as a point, currently with 5 layers of rng it could take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to get a 60-120 crit ratio, >1.5k atk, 120% er and spare em build. I’ve actually hit the point of being disincentivized from pulling new characters because I don’t want to farm for more artifacts. This is a game that purposefully markets new characters, different playstyles, and different builds within each character. The point stands that there’s a large amount of players that the artifact system irritates everyday, to the point of just not farming artifacts. The system’s RNG which makes it hard to draw the line between too abundant and too scarce, but one good way to tell is by what the actual players are saying. One change I would like to see is being able to choose which set drops. Based on the day or whatever. No currency to change it though or make it cost pennies.

Most of these people just don't have the time but would use resin given the opportunity. Obviously increasing the "required" playtime for a game that's made to take 10-20 mins a day would upset a bunch of ppl, namely in the CN or japan servers.
As a new player, the resin feels extremely limiting. Just to level up a character and their aspects it takes weeks! And after you quickly use that daily resin you barely have anything else to do.
youre a new player, how can you say that ? you have plenty of story quests to do and get thousands of rewards from them. maybe it feels limiting to you because there are so many characters now. but you dont have to level every character you have

And story quest don't take much time either. Even if you take your time it can be done in a month. And a month old players are, I'd say, fairly new.

And of course there are many lazy players (including myself) who don't want to waste their time on a quests even if you want to rush it, but of course skipping through the dialogues will make you miss out the lore.

Though I played Genshin since the day of it's release, I do take my time on them so I had no rush on anything else. And just like you similarly, I like to explore and solve puzzles as well but as for the dialogue... Well... I skip most of them but I read them quickly just to make sure. Edit: forgot to say that the only time I never skip dialogue is when there's talking involved, so it's the only time I actually read dialogue.

It's probably intentionally designed to be bad, addicting and time-consuming so a player has to login everyday or spend their money. The chance of getting the right main stat, the right sub stats, the right set between the 5*, are already so low, let alone a good or godlike roll. It's been layered with so much RNG that whoever designed this really wanted the players to suffer so that they really have to turn to whaling and spending money to get constellations and better weapons instead, if they don't want to learn in-game mechanics.
It's absolutely designed to waste your time. They keep adding new characters and new sets specifically for those characters. You'll never have a good set for all your characters.
It's one of the aspects of the game that is making me not spend any money on it so it's really not doing it's job if it's supposed to get people to spend.
the thing is some people who has spent like 500 hours just artifact farming and then they release a patch where it becomes so easy for the other players to get good artifact and these grinders would feel like shit after grinding forever. thats literally the only downside to releasing an balance update on the artifact . but this wouldnt even be relevant in the future because of the new artifacts we would be getting making old ones useless. forgot to mention that the survey literally mentioned the artifact rng lol so you are probably right.
@@Swagbastian but that's the cost of an f2p game, especially a gacha. It survives because it wants people to spend. Sure, genshin could have auto battling, have more Qol items that allow main or substats to be rerolled or changed (like in epic seven or counterside), be as generous as Arknights, or have more weapons that enable playstyles rather than act as a BIS for a specific character, Elegy, Homa and Catch are examples of these imo. You're playing a gacha, and that has its own implications I'm afraid.

They need to sub categorise the artifact domain to the piece that you need or drop the complete set every run. It’ll be a whole lot better that way imo.
either that or make another domain or spiral abyss type of mechanism that drops items that let you reroll artifacts. and instead of resin they can have a set number of times you're allowed to complete it. and if they're worried about the number of levels or the enemies present, just let them come in survival mode similar to how they do in hyakunin ikki but with no swapping. and they can just keep buffing the stats of the enemies as they keep coming . if they're worried about how they'll make it work with the lore, they're smart people they can figure that stuff out
Also I think people who run a domain 10-20 times should have a projected pity system, where they get the specific piece they are looking for, like if I'm running Witch Set, my pity is directed to getting flowers.

@@riseark3381 that’s sickkkk it could be a weekend thing and kinda endgame -ish. The drops are an item that grants % chance to roll crit substat. In order to get it you need to deal certain amout of damage. No time limit endless one try per day during the weekend. Healer are finally relevant.
I kid you not, I have spent around 6 MONTHS trying to get a crimson witch 5 star hat with at least 1 decent substation and Crit main stat for hu Tao. Closest thing I got was a Crit main stat with def, def%, hp%, Hp flat. Just wonderful. 👍
so relatable, i spent so much resin (equivalent to doing 4 runs with condensed resin everyday for 2 months) and i didn't get a single crit rate circlet, it was either crit dmg with extremely shitty substats or all def %. i literally stopped playing for like 3 months after that, it's so discouraging.

When I first learned how the genshin artifact system worked it immediately reminded me of a less forgiving version of Splatoon's gear system, as in, substats being random for the most part. What makes Splatoon's one better is that they have 1) Items that boost chances for certain sub stat rolls. 2) a way to reset a piece of gear which lets you try again and 3) by doing so you gain shards of the "scrubbed" sub stats which, when you get enough of, you can overwrite a sub stat of another piece of gear. If genshin did something even remotely similar to this I think it would address about 90% of the problem. Imagine the same scenario with the godly Crit Rate hat from 6:30. You don't get a single hit on Crit DMG. Now imagine if you could reset the artifact to level 0 again, and in the process you get 2 ATK shards, 1 ER shard and 2 EM shards and then you can re-level the artifact or even get a guaranteed substat increase if you have enough Crit DMG% shards. I feel like something like this will make the artifact grind more reasonable because even the sadge unlucky moments can provide some sort of progress in some direction.
Crit dmg % shards is actually a super interesting idea. We already put items into artifacts to level them, what if instead of just artifacts there were also enemy drops or crafable/buyable items that made certain sub stats more likely? Like, putting only one in raises the chance a little, but filling every slot with the item removes the rng entirely. Maybe they’re only available later in the game so that it can partially simulate some kind of linear progression (even though it would probably still have problems). Cool idea.
This sounds like one of the better ideas I've seen put forward in this comment section. More than trying to make the system slightly less RNG, there should be a system that simply gives players more control over what they do have, like rerolling substats, even if it takes some time to gain it.
I feel like they only need to change 2 thing. 1: Remove the flat stats. Because right now getting them besides from Elementals Mastery everything else is borderline useless when the % stats is always superior. 2: Let's the players pick 1 out of the 5 artifacts pieces. So everyone can have a good flowers and feather before getting the full set.
flat stats used to be useful in the beta, they buffed your base atk/hp/whatever idk why they took it out (maybe bc it would have made bennett so overpowered). if anything they should just make every stat have an equal chance to drop and combine the elemental dmg% stats into a single stat
They can just add a reforge system to remove one unwanted stat and replace it with another or be able to remove a wanted stat from a bad artifact and place it on another but it destroys the unwanted artifact
Honkai has a substat re-roll feature that allows you to select which specific sub stat of a stigmata you want to re-roll and whether or not you want to keep the re-rolled sub stat or not. We use a specific material to re-roll these sub stats and there’s certain materials that influence how a sub stat’s re-roll would lean towards. It’s still RNG, but allows players to adjust sub stats that would otherwise be considered “trash” or “unusable”. I’m not saying to copy and paste the system, but rather make it so that it would feel less tiring to have an item that would help in reducing “Trash Artifact” waste similarly how weekly boss drops have Dream Solvents which allow players to feel less shitty in getting the wrong boss drop… and the craftable Artifact Box system doesn’t work to fix this. It’s a decent feature, but not the right direction, most of the trash artifacts come from the wrong sub stats being raised while leveling up the artifacts, not exactly from the artifact drop rate itself. One RNG is enough, having another layer of RNG that takes up more Resources is too much. Just as the video explains RNG on top of RNG is not a good business model, and will never be a good business model. If Hoyoverse won’t adjust this, then at least allow players to feel less shitty about getting the wrong sub-stat and have the option to “Reforge” an artifact; be it a way to reset an artifact’s level back to zero, or having the ability to re-roll a specific sub stat, or re-distribute a sub stat’s ascension. From my experience with honkai you honestly don't need those substats anyways they are extra damage but most of your damage bonuses come from the stigmata bonuses weapon bonuses and the stigmata set bonuses. And when you upgrade either a stigmata or weapon you are guaranteed to get a better bonus compared to genshin which is rng
I can see this being introduced to genshin at some point, in the same way they have been adding a lot of quality of life Alchemy features. Maybe there will be ways to convert the Set/Main Stat/Substat of artifacts in such ways. Mind you I know we can sort of already convert artifact sets but it's extremely limited and costly

Absolutely agree with everything said here. I’m also a day one player and I’ve been playing it almost daily since release. I’ve stopped playing it as of late strictly because of this horrible artifact system. I have so many amazing characters that I can’t fully utilize or build how I’d like because of my horrible rng. I don’t think anything will bring me back to this game until they change how this stupid system works. I would just like to feel rewarded for my hundreds of hours by getting some decent artifacts lol. Got to rank 55 just to still get cucked by rng
@@lostblueboy I’ve been rank 55 for a while now. I also had a few times where I stopped playing the game for weeks at a time because of the artifact system lol. Also, not all day one players are even at 60 yet and you’ve probably played it far more consistently than I have. Nice flex though

I dont think so, its not too late to change. They could simply make domains with 1 artifact set type, so that you are guaranteed to get the set pieces you want. Its very easy to implement, dont even need new domains just make them rotate daily like materials. Most domains have 2 main sets so every other day you can farm it -.- so simple yet we wont get it
I would prefer having a higher chance for better artifacts, take out the flat stats on the sub stats and even out the chances for everything left. I don't like running most domains because I usually find them anywhere between annoying and aggregating
The first big change I want to see to the artifact system is to have it change where each day of the week each domain will drop a specific slot artifact, so like Wednesday is headpieces, and Thursday is flower, maybe even have it so Sunday and Tuesday you have a chance to farm any of the pieces. If they want it to stay rng on top of rng and have each domain have a set you want and a possible dead set then this could help a ton.
5:20 I would argue Emblem of Severed Fate is also an exception to that as well since many charas use that set (Xiangling, Beidou, Raiden etc) and is currently THE artifact domain to farm with Shimenawa also being usable with the 2 piece set.
not only that it's used on more than 11 characters, but also: crimson witch (used on most pyro dps'); blizzard strayer (used on most cryo dps'); husk of opulent dreams(used on 5 characters); and for the god's sake viridescent venerer is used on EVERY SINGLE ANEMO CHARACTER the only exception being Xiao who got a new set already.
I’ve always thought they need to make artifacts day dependent like talents and weapon upgrade mats. Like flowers on Mondays, feathers on Tuesday, etc. As it is you can spend days without seeing a sand, let alone it being of the artifact set you want, main stats you need or it having any good sub stats.
I feel it would be better to do it like talents but in the way you can choose which artifact you want on a certain day, either the set or the piece or even both. imagine on saturdays you get to choose to farm heart of depth goblet in that domain. saturday would be every player's dream but we can only hope cause it doesnt seem like theyre planning it any time soon (hopefully I'm wrong)
@@renoirrr the thing is that imo the biggest issue is the rate in which types of artifacts drop. Sands and goblets, at least for me, drop way less. If you knew on Thursdays you would get sands you’d drop all your resin trying to get a good one. I’m looking at you emblem set! For the first 2 month of playing I didn’t have any crit rate circlet. Let alone a good one, I thought they were a myth. I would’ve dropped all my resin and more on a circlet day. However, I’m good with them taking any rng off the plate. If they go for set, I’d take it. One less rng to worry abt. Emblem day here we go.
@@marar8045 the reason I suggested having only one day where you can choose which set/piece is because if it was monday - flower, tuesday - feather and so on then if you want to get a specific piece, say a timepiece, you have to wait until that day and the weekend to farm for it, whereas if it were just one day u were able to choose and the rest stays the same then there's still the chance to get that timepiece every other day. since resin cannot stack up over the limit unless you use fragile resin then it's kind of wasting every other day's worth if you're not interested in the other pieces. sure, you could farm for another character but you could be stuck in that one domain because you have no other character to farm for in other domains (farming in that damn dragonspine domain for 6 months will be the death of me). sorry for carrying on but my point is if you're looking to farm something like that perfect goblet, at least you would have a chance to obtain it every day of the week, instead of just on certain days.

The best fix would be SLIGHT changes of rng for the artifacts without making them too easy or impossible to farm. 1. Make every domain drop each set every other day. There is no reason not to do so, just like talent books or weapon mats. Imagine talents and weapon mats dropping randomly... 2. Make MAIN stats of artifacts - primarily sands and circlet drop with the same rate. Someone could spend multiple months to get EM goblet/circlet/sands in viridescent domain and that is not normal by any standard. ER sands on Emblem set is close too. 3. Make onset elemental goblets more likely to drop. So having geo goblet on geo set would actually become normal and not a literal miracle like it is now. And honestly, I think this is enough to feel better when farming artifacts and feel rewarded for doing so. Substats rng can even stay the same imo.
This. Spent so much resin in dragonspine domain to farm blizzard strayer and yet I have double the amount of heart of depth artifacts than blizzard strayer. Fuck that domain.
The Dragonspine domain sure is bad, but at least getting Heart of Depth isn't as much of a slap to the face as getting mf Lavawalker from the Crismon Witch domain. Fuck THAT domain I hope it burns itself down leaving only CW pieces behind and all Lavawalker pieces burnt into ashes.
this is so true. Getting artifacts is by far the hardest part of maxing out a character, and the game in general. Not only do you have to pray from the right set, but then the right piece, the main stat, sub stat, and then rolling into the correct sub stat. At this point i would be happy if they changed it so that you can control which set you want like you do for talent books.
The sad fact is that everyone knows and acknowledges this problem, there's lots of heavy spenders that keep saying that it's fine to face this kinda artifact system without realising it's very taxing for f2ps considering they don't even get to recharge their resin to Max with primos everyday(unless you're not saving them for a character)
I'm what could be considered a heavy spender and I absolutely hate the artifact system. There are plenty of other whales that feel the same way because no matter how much you spend, artifact luck halts progress for whales and f2p alike
@@testingtesting421 Exactly! The current artifact system doesn't benefit anyone, so I don't know why Hoyoverse never listens to player feedback when we ask for reforms to the artifact system. Hoyoverse never changes anything after it is released unless the whole player base gets super riled up about it, so unless that happens I doubt they'll change things :(
I completely agree. I feel motivated to improve my characters, but automatically resort to improving the character talents and level first. The moment I have to consider artifacts my motivation evaporates. I really can't be asked to waste time, resources and attention when there's a guaranteed way to improve.
You by far, of any Genshin youtubers (or even youtubers in general) have such a solid understanding of the fundamentals on game design and a consistent quality to your discussions, being able to articulate on points in an informative manner without repeating yourself. As a Comp Sci major with an emphasis on Game Design/Development, this channel and your videos are quite the gems, elevated by the fact that its on a game I love and care about as well.
The artifact system really is the one aspect that drains my motivation to play the game. I'll still get on to do my dailies, but some days I don't even spend my resin cuz I know I should use it on artifacts and it just feels pointless to try. Several times I've gone months trying to build a certain character, that sometimes I even skip character banners cuz I have too many I still need to build already.
Same, I love the game and am still involved in the community, but there is times I go days without actually playing because all there is to do is grind artifacts and it's feels like a chore, and there feels like no reward to doing it.
exactly, when you spend resin for 2 weeks and you don't get one single good artifact it just feels like a waste of resin, but if you don't roll for them your damage potential is capped which is frustrating
I have so many unleveled and unfarmed 5 stars because of the artifacts. I have Xiao, Kazuha, Shenhe, Klee, Jean, Hu Tao, Yoimiya, etc all level 1, because I can’t fathom the idea of having to grind for all eternity for even USEABLE artifacts…I have 1. ONE artifact with a Crit value of 34, and that’s it…. I
well that’s not that bad just make it an off piece, it’s good you can get goblets from anywhere because while farming for another chara you could get an upgrade for your main:)
To me, the biggest issue with the artifact system is what gets brought up right after the 10-minute mark: the extreme randomness of the current artifact system completely derails the feeling of making progress by spending your resin. Leveling talents can get really expensive in mora, talent books, and enemy materials, but you can dedicate time or resin to collect any of these things and you know for certain that what you're doing is getting you closer to the character being "finished." You can run talent domains and know that every run means progress regardless of how high the leveling costs rise. Arfitacts work completely differently, though. Instead of every run bringing some level of guaranteed progress, every run is instead just another pull on a slot machine that you know is built not to work in your favor. It's not chipping away with slow but steady progress on improving your characters; it's spending time and resources making no progress until you hit a breakthrough at some indeterminate point. This way, even when you do finally get a full set that feels good enough for a character, the end result doesn't feel rewarding because it's now not equipment that you really built, just something the game finally decided to gift to you. I don't mind the wide array of artifact sets feeling too specialized if you could still see the endpoint of farming a new set when you start it. I wonder if they could implement a system where you could "level up" an artifact after it already hit level 20 where it wouldn't improve the main stat anymore, but every four bonus levels-worth of experience would let you swap a substat for another or otherwise redistribute where some of the bonus rolls go. Even this way as long as you found an artifact with the right main stat, you know that you can eventually build that one into what you want, even if it still takes more exp to get there.
I feel like it could be pretty intuitive and fair if they kept the randomness for HOW MUCH a substat is upgraded but make it so that we can choose WHICH substat we want to upgrade.

I wrote in my survey that mainstat and substats should be lockable and rerollable. Resetting an artifact to its lvl1 state when it reaches 20 would also be a massive improvement. Not getting any resources back is fine and this way it still keeps a factor of mihoyos beloved rng

Been saying this also. Make it so resetting requires 40-60 resin. I’ll even do 160 resin to reset an artifact. Or even a limit to how many you can reset per day/week. The most annoying part of artifact grinding is having a really good piece become dog shit. And the chances of finding another god tier starting artifact is so fucking low, it shouldn’t even be a problem. God just thinking about how all my double crit rolls electro goblets managed to avoid both crit stats completely makes my blood boil.
I think the amount of specificity in this game is getting out of hand. Spending a boatload of money or dozens of hours on weapons and artifacts that would only ever be useful on 1-2 characters is absurd. And it's even more absurd that MHY keeps designing things this way.

That's what I did for the longest time. I may be an extreme case, but I actually leveled all my characters to at least 70 for the free acquaint fates from ascensions. Then I maxed out the weapons and talents of the characters I use most. I legit avoided artifacts like the plague and instead used copium boss drops on all my characters. Sadly, I eventually had nothing to do except farm artifacts. Now I'm rotting in emblem domain and it's tedious af. Unironically one of the reasons I get excited about new characters is the knowledge that I have an excuse to farm bosses, ley lines and talent/weapon domains for them. Guaranteed progress feels so good and refreshing.
I stopped farming artifacts and make do with 2pc+2pc Gladiator/Wanderer/Berserker/Exile for most of my characters. Farming artifact is boring and I'm gonna get shit artifacts anyway, so why bother. It's not like I want to perfect clear abyss 12th floor or anything.
Having to grind months just to get 2 vv EM pieces, not even mentioning how good, was such a drag. Finally getting it felt insanely good but at what cost. When trying to just go for upgrades for e.g. Raiden, I'm going mad at this point. The limitations and layers of rng are terrible. People defending this system are... redacted.
I had the same problem with the maiden set for yaoyao where I kept on getting def instead of hp. She still have the artifacts you get from the experience section
Imagine if the piece the domain drops is dependent on the day. Like Monday-flowers only, Tuesday-feathers only, etc. It’d make farming easier (similar to ascension mats) and you’d be able to complete a set more reliably.
I actually almost sold my account once because I spent 6 weeks without an ATK% sands drop. This system also completely breaks the balance because of how much character's power depends on the artifacts.
Expecting balance in any rpg is the absolute height of comedy . Literally ANY game that is so heavily reliant on stats / numbers are going to be inherently unbalanced. Or are you gonna sit there and really try and pretend games like older Final Fantasy and even Pokemon are actually 'balanced' ? It's especially funny cause you have a Morgana from P5 pfp and Morgana is IMMEDIATELY outclassed my Makoto as a party member due to rpgs being inherently unbalanced games.
@@justsomeguy727 there are different levels of unbalanced. In FF you can work towards what you want knowing that at the end you're getting exactly what you want. In Genshin there's no guarantee.
Suggestions for artifacts -Give players an option to use a sort of alchemy formula to allow tempering/changing of substats/main stats. Kinda like the Umbracites in Nioh. -Make each substat scale off of the 4/8/12/16/20 level evenly. -Increase the XP offered by the Artifact XP mats sold in the teapot. The only real efficient way to get XP for artifacts is by more artifact farming -Can we at least get more Resin/higher refresh rate? Hell scratch the other suggestions. Just have this fixed and some significant problems would get fixed.
I also feel like they have set bonuses done backwards. They reserve unique gimmicks and means of making a character's playstyle unique (or just playable like Kokomi) under the 4-piece set. Going for pairs of 2-piece sets is outright kneecapping yourself outside of a few specific characters. You can not mix and match, only do one thing for one character and be damn lucky in the meanwhile One could really open the doors for customization if the sets were reworked so we weren't forced at gunpoint to go for full sets. For generalists or to give certain characters multiple tasks, they can run pairs, like giving Kokomi both overhealing attack with Ocean-Hued Clam and attack buffing with Heart of Depth. And for specilization, they can go the full set, making Kokomi either a pure healer or a pure Hydro DPS/sub-DPS (provided she get the slight tweaks in her base kit to make her better capable at fighting)
Kokomi is actually well designed. She works well on even low investment and her best set set is Tenacity and she does not care very much about sub stats because she is not trying to rng into crit while using artifacts main stats almost no one else wants.
The trouble is putting powerful gimmicks in the 2-piece set bonus makes the 4-piece set bonus basically useless. I think a better option is to put a 3-piece set bonus which has a unique gimmick but not as powerful as the 4-piece set bonus, so then some characters could run a 2-piece from one set and a 3-piece from another. Like for example Ningguang could run 2-piece Gladiator (+18% ATK) and 3-piece Archaic Petra (+15% Geo DMG Bonus; upon obtaining Elemental Shard +10% DMG Bonus for that element for the whole team). Or something like that.
The artifact system is one of the major reasons why it made me took a break from Genshin the first time. Doing the same domain over and over really contributed to why I got burnt out.
I agree, this is really one of the reasons i quit the game, i played since day 1, and i spent more than 8 months just farming the most optimal artifacts for my 2 teams in abyss, i wanted them to have the best artifacts possible more than (50:100 crit ratio,and certain ER threshholds for xl and xq), even though the current artifacts can still clear the abyss 36 stars already. When I wanted to pull for new units though, a realization dawned upon me, I'd have to farm an entirely new character when i'm not even satisfied with the current one. And there is literally no point to rolling other characters. My 2 teams are already cracked being hutao xq in team 1 and childe reverse vape in team 2. I no longer needed other units. The thing with this game is the endgame is literally garbage. Once you can consistently clear abyss 36 star, There is no more motivation, ur just grinding for the sake of a small chance to get ur character slightly stronger. With that being said, I still love this game at heart, the characters are really well designed, the world is beautiful, but it is just not for me.
Once people get 36* with good meta teams, they start branching out and trying new teams...for fun. I guess, most players are so reward driven that it no longer becomes about having fun and more about getting "stuff" for the amount of work and time put in. There's a reason why most content producers advise in summoning for whoever the hell you want after you can 36*. The game is essentially done for you and you can just treat it as a sandbox game. Everything you do is just for fun past this point. If you are stuck in a "perfection" mindset, it becomes really toxic because you can enjoy a game as a game anymore.
that's not the game's problem you didn't even consider playing your other characters or experimenting with different teams. you just pretended to be the victim and that the game is unfair for making it hard to perfect instead of taking a step back and realising that the gameplay isn't how quickly you can clear content, it's the battle itself.

There's so many issues around this character progression. Especially when gated with random artifacts like this. Tbh darksiders item upgrading system is something to consider. We can choose the stats we want for upgrade according to what we feed into that item. We can put all the 3 star and 4 star with crit substat to upgrade the crit stat. This is tough but at least less rng. I think this is great for reducing the randomness.
I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get perfect artifacts for Childe and even though I have most of it now I’m still lacking a good enough goblet and flower and it’s honestly so frustrating
bro if u think that's bad. i think if i tell u my story u would be scared . i farmed for pale flame for my eula ever since she came on her rerun with albedo. that's quite a lot of time. and if i have to guess i may have spend well over 15000 total resin on that domain but i have not gotten a single artifact with over 30 cv. NOT A SINGLE DAMN ONE. never in my life have i even been so angry about something. in all this time let alone good substats , i think i never got to see a single atk% sands after all this resin. i just recently gave up on that and started farming for ayato. i m so mad that i never got to maximize my eula dmg and probably i m not gonna use her again cuz that would give some serious ptsd. i literally left her without even using her properly. i m never touching that domain again.
I genuinely used to like the artifact system, about 50 hours ago. I only have 1 decently built Keqing at this point and I'm working on a Diluc I recently pulled and the longer I have to grind for artifacts the less I'm enjoying Genshin and I do genuinely think I'm close to burnout, Ley Line disorders even make them more annoying to run through it's like the game is punishing you on so many levels just for trying to enjoy it
I love this channel. Coming from a game dev community, this is exactly the intelligent analysis I love. Everything you say is spot on and thought-provoking. MiHoYo would really benefit from watching these. If they adopted this advice, players would be happier and MiHoYo would likely make more money.
This video hits harder to me after I finally managed to get out of the Viridescent Venerer farming hell this week. 20 days worth of resin until I finally got a 5* EM goblet to finish a proper 4 piece set. No circlets on sight, but at least I had random off-set ones. Logging in everyday just to throw my resin there in 10 minutes and seeing how I was getting absolutely nothing of value (and a lot of useless Maiden's Beloved pieces too) was the worst time I had playing this game so far. And who knows for how much longer I could have been stuck there if my luck had been worse...
oh god vv em circlet and goblets are the worst. literal 1 in 400 chance at getting an em goblet on the set you want, forget about substats!! i've been thinking of going back there cos i'd love to build other anemo characters and the stats on the circlet/goblet for my kazuha are comically bad but..... i don't dare :( glad you finally got one!
My hope is that Genshin will eventually be pressured into fixing this. FGO in its first couple of years was very similar in its issues, recently they’ve taken to making things a lot easier on the players (JP side not NA don’t get on me for that) due to losing sales. Genshin pays a lot more attention to its fan base though and it doesn’t have the luxury of such a well known IP like Fate/ to back it up, so hopefully that process is a lot sooner,

Trust me, Surveys are just lies You want them to change the artifact system? Go make Chinese playerbase rage and involve the matter with Chinese government, CCP. That's the only way for them to LISTEN, remember Zhongli and Geo resonance case?
I would prefer a laborious and time-consuming artifact system but know where we are going with all this time and resources invested. I imagine a system where you can choose in advance the set, the type of artifact, the main stat and the 4 secondary stats (with fixed values). This artifact doesn't exist yet, you have to invest resources to create it little by little. The coveted stats (CR and CDMG) will be more expensive in resources, and the less coveted (HP, DEF) will be more affordable. To get these resources, you have to farm in the respective domains of the artifact set. The artifact will be improved percent by percent, and may require special resources for certain levels. Maybe like crowns for lvl 10 talents, but less rare. In the end, the perfect artifact will be long and costly to finish, but you would be sure to get it at the end of the road.
I just wish the main stat was "Elemental Damage", instead of specific elements. But if they really would make it better, making a artifact shareable or letting us choose which substat I want to level every 4 levels
1. choosing substats would invalidate the reason for resin to exist in the first place 2. you can already equip off-set elemental dmg pieces 3. again sharing artifacts first of all wouldn't make any sense and second of all would undermine the reason resin exists 4. elemental dmg? what are you gonna do for physical dmg then? make physical dmg multiple times harder to get and cause complaints? lmao
What they need to incorporate is a way to reset level 20 artifacts to 0 using 40-60 resin. This would make it a lot more forgiving and encourage people to min-max if they so choose to. Players will have the choice of either running for more artifacts or using their precious resin to reset artifacts. Hell I’ll even do a 100 resin cost reset.

So again… why does making the Phys damage goblets harder to obtain matter? And elemental goblets are already hard as fuck to farm and people are already complaining. It makes me want to question why they would implement this sort of mechanic into the game. It’s really unnecessary having players to spend your resins or sometimes your lovely freemogems or your real world money on artifacts you don’t want, especially when also receive random stats you don’t want. I would be fine if Hoyoverse divided two different artifacts separately per challenge. For example if I was going after thundering fury only, then I challenge this domain that only gives you thundering fury, instead of an additional thundersoother. And as for me who has played the game for 4 months, this is where the point the resin system and lack of endgame content starts rearing its ugly head.
I have about 500 hours so far, I have one artifact that rolled with like 30% CD and that's my best artifact. But even getting enough artifacts to level your artifacts is a pain
You know why they implement this time consuming and mundane system? So that people don't instantly perfect their characters and quit the game complaining "too ez' or "nothing to do". Sure its a horrible way to doing it but it has a purpose. Should still be adjusted here and there though. They want people to play 1 hr everyday instead of binge play 1 day to perfect everything and quit after it until the next patch or something

You're absolutely right, there's a reason. But it doesn't really help the player at all. The artifact system would be bad and overly time consuming even without the daily limit.
I started playing Genshin Impact 3 months ago, and I'm just now hitting the artifact grind. I have no interest in running Spiral Abyss or breaking DPS world records, so I don't mind the many layers of RNG on the substats. I'm just looking for 5 star pieces from the right set with the right main stat, and I still find the current system underwhelming. The funny thing is that I dislike running some of the artifact domains anyway. Even if Hoyoverse gave us unlimited attempts, I'd only do around 4 runs per day, because I don't find them fun. I don't need an incentive to limit my playtime, so for me the combination of the resin system and the layers of RNG feels like overkill. It's like Hoyoverse don't want me to play the game lol.
Agreed 100%. Am new player, resin didn't bother me since there is story, and other stuff to do. But then i got to the point, when am just waiting for new updates, and story quest's. Sooo... i want to build my character for like abyss, or just trying different stuff, different team comps. But guess what? I can't, i mean am doing it, but its gonna take so long, i dont even know should i even bother, cuz am kinda burned out by artificial slowdown(resin and rng). What i mean is, i want to play the game, but the game dont want me to play it lol.
I think artifacts needing resin is the worst part if everything was the same but we had an infinite amount of tries and artifacts weren't time gated then it would be fine it would be like shiny hunting in Pokémon but could only do nine encounters per day that would take me 455 days to catch a single one it's insanity
the artifact system presents potential for character building exploration. but then they shot every body on both foot, ankles, calves, shins, knees, thighs and buttcheeks by making the system as random as it is. i know they want to make money through resin recharges but i'd say allowing players to comfortably make multiple builds for one character would do the job as well if not better.
It’s not even the randomness, but the fact that it’s so damn unforgiving. With pulls, you get guaranteed if you lose 5050. With abyss, if you can’t 3 star a chamber due to not having the proper team but can 3 star the other two, you can always come back with another team. With artifact farming? Absolutely nothing. We are at the mercy of whatever bullshit luck we have that day. There’s no reset. There’s no way to guarantee anything. That’s so counterintuitive to what the game is supposed to be-a casual gacha game.
Completely true, the artifact system is the main reason why I have so much unleveled characters and characters on my blacklist, who'll never get a chance. While you don't need more than 1-2 characters of each element to play the game, you also can't afford building more. You literally get more free wish currency than resin to use the characters you get by wishing. Not that having infinite resin can save this as doing artifact domains is unreasonably boring and 200 times for each character is a big no. And then there is the problem they try to target this at casual players. As a casual player you ain't gonna play every day and use 180 resin. At best you'll play twice a week and use 2x160. So now instead of 2 months, it takes you 7 to max out a single character, well, good luck with that. And that's assuming you haven't already stopped logging in when you ran out of content, reverting to waiting mode for the next major content update, which gives you zero progress for months.
Tbh having infinite resin but still trash rng is better than what the system is now. At least I can seat down and stoneface myself through 500 domain runs and feel some kind of progression, rather than 500 runs spread out through a hundred days which burns me out and give zero sense of progression at all.
I agree it's pretty boring and also annoying with the introduction of riftwolves that manages to be more annoying to fight than the abyss mages. That's why I kept doing coop with strangers to share the suffering that is artifacts grind.
Having Goblets be "Elemental Damage Bonus" instead of one random specific element would be so much better... Just to name one single aspect of this whole f'ed up system
That makes so much more sense. Over a complete year of playing this game, and i still don’t have a decent hydro damage goblet. My best one so far has 6% crit rate and thats literally it. I don’t have another single usable goblet.

yeah its like all games are made by companies whose goal is to make money, but the good ones have devs who actually listen and work with their players to improve the game like league or r6. problem with genshit is that the devs do not give a fuck about their players, but it doesn't matter because they make money either way. The problem in short is not RNG but RNG (The correct set) behind another RNG (The correct piece) behind another RNG (The correct main stats) behind another RNG (The correct Sub stats) behind another RNG (The correct 1st roll) behind another RNG (The correct 2nd roll) behind another RNG (The correct 3rd roll) behind another RNG (The correct 4th roll) behind another RNG (The correct 5th Roll)
Don't forget the RNG to determine the quantity of substat boost you get every 4 levels. Crit DMG, for instance, can rise by anywhere between 5.4% and 7.8%.
Honestly it feels like the real issue is just the randomness to how substats roll every 4 levels if that was controllable or a new item allowed you to re roll them it would definitely be better.
My biggest saving grace with Genshin is that while i play the game daily, i don't really do things like Abyss so artifacts can just be 'good enough' for me because I don't need the best of the best
Same for me. I play GI for the lore so as long as i can clear story, that's fine. But it doesnt change the fact that artifact system sucks. Tbh combat is the lamest aspect of this game imo so i dont bother with this too much. I still enjoy soloing boss tho
you are the minority though, im glad you arent as impacted, but for most players, especially the spenders, having 300$ characters with only 30 mins of content every 2 weeks that justifies using them is unacceptable. at the end of the day mihoyo wants our money, but gives us nothing to use the characters on that any other character cant do....at this point i have every single character and my overworld team is just Razor Childe Venti and Qiqi because it can do everything...mine...break any shield, easy healing, etc....sure i can use a c3 raiden on farming routes, but why....nothing has 200k hp...and ill have to swap teams if i run into the wrong mobs or struggle through them with melee attacks...
@@coolguy48457 yeah this is the entire reason I've only built 4 characters (beidou, yanfei, mona, and diona) cause I can kill any enemy (regular and weekly bosses included) and i don't have to stress about artifacts, good enough is good enough. don't do abyss since u invest all that time just for 1200 primos a month (not even 10 pulls) and its to get a character who you wouldn't even use for over 1 hour each day. each limited 5* does 1 thing rly well, but are kinda trash at anything else. 4*s and standard 5*s have way more general uses, especially with constellations so its like... why shoot urself in the foot just to look at pretty girl/chad guy :p sucks watching rest of community stress ab these things though haha... feel bad for em all... guess its a good thing to not care ab new characters and/or dealing the most damage possible lawl...
Everything you said is so true. Artifact farming with its endless rng layers is incredibly frustrating, and with the resin cap even more so. They should really fix that. I like your suggestion of removing the resin for those domains so you at least have to only deal with the rng. I would also like to add sth to one point you made (and maybe you will touch upon that in another video?): i have a problem with genshin apparently being a game "for casual players" which "isn't made to be played for hours", when (due to the open world) in the beginning you have SO MUCH to do and actually CAN play for several days. And then suddenly you get to a point where you're forced to just... stop. You got used to playing genshin for a couple of hours every day and now you can't anymore. It's like being on a highway and suddenly there's a pedestrian zone and you're being told that it's always been a pedestrian zone, what were you thinking driving this quickly? That's what it was like for me and it honestly gave me whiplash. That is such poor game-design
Yeah I think mixing open world RPG-style while being a mobile gacha game just doesn't feel right to begin with and sadly the problem is here to stay. I've played various kind of gacha games from afk type to rhythm game type to action type but none of them feels like I'm hitting a wall everytime I ran out of "playing tickets" as much as Genshin does.
You hit me hard with the crit circlet rolling 4 perfect subs but then every roll went to EM up to lvl 16. I had that happen yesterday and it absolutely crushed me
@@zeosummers3984 because a crit rate circlet with 5% attack, 4.5% er, 5.7% crit D, and almost 80em is no where near as good as the crit rate circlet I was running with 20 crit D and 10% attack even if the other two stats are def % and flat def... Just because an arti has 4 optimal substats doesn't mean it'll be good. He literally mentions this exact scenario in the video.
agree, another layer of rng is actually getting the right sets from a said domain! i’ve been farming HoD for Ayato so that he is usable as soon as i pull him, but majority of what i get from that domain is the Blizzard set. don’t get me wrong, ik it’s a good set and i most prob want Ayaka too, but Ayato’s banner it’s first my lads.., and don’t get my started on the substat rolls i’ve done so far :((
In conclusion its better to be a f2p or bp welcon player at best. As i dont even have all the characters. I only have 32 characters and out of them i built 19 of them and they r battle ready to 36* abyss (no art effect switching, they r built) and i only pyll for meta wifus soo u got then ganyu ayaka c2 ei zl child jean mona diluc etc and all my 4* meta units have very hight cons like c6 xl bedou sukros fis diona. C5 sara xq and c4 bennet. Only things want and missing is kazuha and dendro arcon
The main culprit to me is simply Resin. The simple fact that Resin actively prevents you from playing the game pretty much exacerbates any and all problems in the game. Which goes completely against the main goal of keeping players playing.

And even if they wanted to still have a means to gatekeep progression, they could just make it so that alongside resin being refreshed every few minutes, include the finite possibility of collecting it in the overworld much like naku weeds, cor lapis, mushrooms or pearls. It'd not only make grinding for characters much more doable but also encourage players to explore areas they haven't yet touched, as well as keep them engaged with all aspects of the game. If that isn't a possibility then make it so that players can use mora or materials to have their artifacts roll into the substats THEY want, the more mora or materials invested the higher the roll. It really isn't that hard, it's as if Hoyoverse are trying to get people to rage quit their game.
No, for artifacts it is not a resin problem but an RNG problem. The resin system works fine for everything else. There is just too much RNG in it. They need to remove 1 or 2 layers of RNG from the artifact system. For example being able to aim for a specific artifact on certain days rather than getting a chance to get one or the other. In this game you do not need very good quality artifacts even for the hardest content in the game. They just need to be decent. It is nice to have a godly artifact but totally unnecessary. I also dislike that the garbage stats are so heavily favored rather than an equal chance for any one of them.

My fixes: The existing artifact system is fine excpt the substat randomness, especially with how important substats are. 1. When you reach every fourth level, you get to choose which substat to level (except if it has 3, the new one will be random). 2. Resin should be more. I feel lke AR 16 is the base so AR times ten as the max and 60/AR + 4 minutes for the rate (rounded down to the 30 seconds) That is it. It would increase long term gameplay and just make things so much better. It might actually be plausible to fully build everyone after 1 year or 2 (by which time there will be more characters.
epic seven does it in a way that for a 4* gear, where the 4th slot will only appear at +12. so if u got 3 godly starting substat u dont have to worry abt the risk getting a crappy 4th stat that rolls into it until +12 and ruin the gear (their max enhance is +15, but growth is every +3). so even if it rolled a shit sub on +12, it only has 1 chance to roll in it
At this point, I'd even be happy if they at least let us choose which artifact set we wanna get. I'm getting so many copium and decent shimenawa pieces and i dont even have a single usable emblem piece 💀
I must admit, as I like to complain about the artifact system, I have to admit every time the perfect artifact hits, you try that piece out on your main and see the visible increase in damage. That's the most satisfying feeling ever
I think every player consciously agrees artifact rng is trash, but i dont think Mihoyo are dumb. They know how to keep players playing and have made the calculated decision that losing players to burnout is worth keeping the players that will grind forever because of how impossible it is to gear characters.
So after having watched this video and actually having thought about the problems behind the current artifact system I can think of three changes that could be made that could help to alleviate the RNG problem. I'm going to place these in order I think would be most to least helpful. First which a lot of other viewers suggested would be to allow for the rerolling of sub-stats. Personally I think this should be done for individual sub-stats rather than rerolling all at once and that it should cost the player nothing more than Mora say between 10000 to 100000 to reroll a single sub-stat. Rerolling the main stat if allowable should only be done at max artifact level and rerolling the main stat resets the artifact to level one. Second get rid of the random range that sub-stats can level up with and just make it a fixed amount just like the main stat. To keep from punishing players who don't already have amazing artifacts the fixed sub-stat level up amount should be close to the maximum amount that a sub-stat can gain in the current system. Third whenever a sub-stat can level up allow players the option to choose which sub-stat levels up, or let them choose an option where the sub-stat will level up randomly but it will do so with say a bonus of say 25% to how much the sub-stat improves. This way even though there's still an extra element of random chance there's also the element of player agency that allows them to choose whether to take that chance, and reap the potential benefits, or not. I kind of wish this video had come out before the Artifacts survey because I would have doubtless made these suggestions to Mihoyo.
The only issue is, knowing what we know about how they fudge the odds of getting good stats, rerolling would be only a different flavor of pain as opposed to how we do it now. Do enjoy the well thought out response you gave though :)
Can agree with all that you said, the system really sucks to the point that level 1 characters can do the same damage with perfect artifacts than level 90 characters with good to medium artifacts
to be fair, leveling a character from 1 to 90 usually takes about 2 weeks if you're focused, while getting the better artifacts can take months, so that seems balanced in terms of time investment

@@justsomeguy727 Yes it is possible to do that. For example, I can make my lvl 20 ningguang do 10k on her e on a crit just because I have good artifacts and a decently lvled up weapon. I could make this number even higher if I used supports such as Bennett and Zhongli.
Artifact farming really is my least favorite part of the game overall. It's not even RNG on top of RNG, it's more like RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG repeating. You need it to give you a 5-star that is the right piece (RNG Number 1) from the right set (RNG Number 2), with the right main stat (RNG Number 3) and the right sub stats (RNG Number 4), and _then_ you have to worry about sub stat rolls (RNG Numbers 5-10 x 2). One of the most annoying issues I've faced is a domain refusing to give me artifacts from the set I'm trying to farm. I've farmed the Dragonspine domain I don't know how many times, and it prefers to give me Blizzard Strayer, when I'm trying to get Heart of Depth. When I _finally_ get at least one Heart of Depth 5-star, it's usually a flower or a feather. If it is one of the other three, it usually has the wrong main stat and/or garbage sub stats. It's to the point where I've decided to farm Heart of Depth for Kamisato Ayato despite them making a set that's supposedly for him because I cannot pre-farm the new set, but I _can_ pre-farm HoD, and I want to use him as soon as possible after I pull him. I do have some amount of hope for the future because of the survey Hoyoverse sent out a while back asking about how we feel about the game and its mechanics. One of the questions asked about what mechanics we find boring and had artifact farming as one of the answers. I slammed that answer so hard and then wrote about it in the text box at the end of the survey.
It wouldn't even be THAT bad if resin costs were lowered and not EVERYTHING cost resin. Do the weekly bosses REALLY need to cost resin when we can only do them once a week anyway? No. Do skill books/exp/mora need to cost as much resin as artifacts? No. And even at that, you could STILL forgive how bad the artifact system is if there was some way to reroll for stats. Main or Sub. How many times have you gotten an on piece artifact with absolutely perfect subs only for it to be HP%, or you finally get your only electro damage goblet in months but, oh, look at that it has absolutely nothing useful as it's substats. If you could reroll artifacts or even just let us unlevel them so we can try again for that perfect substat rolls things would be at least reasonable.
I am just glad you don't need awfully god roll artifacts to clear most of the spiral abyss. Artifact RNG only preys on perfectionists. I just hope we can get artifact pre-sets soon so switching pieces between characters ain't such a hassle.
can you please explain the appeal of abyss? it takes a lot of effort to fully complete, but you only earn 1200 primos a month, which isn't even 10 pulls. it seems like every time i ask people, they just say "because there's nothing better to do". since abyss is the only thing people care about after reaching the "endgame", I don't understand how the game itself is worth playing, if abyss is the only thing people do, and its not even because they find it enjoyable. Personally, the I'm ar56 after 7 and a half months playing and have never touched abyss past 8-3 because it looks like a complete waste of time. Hoping that you can help me understand :D also I've heard the argument "somethings better than nothing" but I cant get why you'd grind for a new unit who doesn't out-damage hutao/ganyu or out-support bennet/xq, unless of course you don't own them yet, but once u get them, why continue? @@Frencoh If you've checked one of var's previous video about spiral abyss, only personal motivation and extra spare primos (especially for f2p) are what drove people to go further. Yes, this is a PvE game so it's up to the player's decision when it comes to tackling anything in this game. I personally love playing spiral abyss just to test team comp tailored specifically for a featured 5 star that I happened to roll for, whether or not they're meta. Better than ganyu/hutao? maybe not. Offering gameplay slightly different from ganyu/hutao? definitely. People can become bored of playing the same unit so they switch to something new.
Dude thank you for mentioning the presets. I've been asking for gear and artifacts preset for quick switching since long ago and I don't see other people mentioning the same thing it almost made me insane considering even Honkai has it

I completely agree with your point; I just wanted to make a slight correction. Substitutes matter more than set bonuses. You can have five random artifacts that have no set bonus do significantly more damage than a full set.
what hurts most is when you just got a perfect artifact after months of farming and you don't have any mora left to fully level it up with no resin left
Resources in general are so limited in this game. They keep adding new artifacts, new units, new weapons but resin you need to upgrade them is so limited. You are not only resin limited but rng limited as well
The artifact system is the only thing that prevents me from inviting friends to play...because i know they would hate it and drop the game in a week, or the moment they see how bad it is...also another point is that the artifacts need other artifacts to level them and every level increases the EXP cap then with the exp from lvl16 to 20 you can literally level another piece to lvl16, and the exp transfer from 1 artifact to the other is not 100%, making dificult leveling new artifacts with old ones more efficient
Even the supposed QoL upgrade as a teapot shop feels too limiting, the item for leveling artifacts are too expensive for too little level increase and I can't buy every single item from the shop in 1 week before it resets even though I login every day to collect the coins

@@tudormese Unfortunately I already written up very,,very, very specific instructions for Miyiho to follow regarding when they could add on more markers into the game making it very closely related to EXACTLY how much of the regions is made available inside of the game to be made available to be actually finalized(?) as well. It did not specifically specify exactly what I meant to say by region, per say. The resin system is probably set up among the fact that the people who played the game before anyone else did not have a job yet themselves as well. Also Touhou Lost World, the company also directly mentioned that the screen for the books is intentionally set up that way because they expect people playing the game to have an actual job already as well. The artifacts are scattered around the region making them practically impossible to find them without marking them/ remembering where they are at all times as well.
I believe that Mihiyo also mentioned that they are friends with them in actual real life as well. I did believe that they helped make certain scenarios that we ACTUALLY SAW on our screens as well.
I'd even be fine with the artifacts rolling random stats when they drop, but just make it so that you can DECIDE what sub stat gets leveled up when you hit the level up bonuses for that artifact. Because that makes it so you don't waste your resources except using Resin.
you deciding which substat sounds doable if it's probably every lvl 16 once per artifact. it'll lower the RNG and make every artifact you roll is usable
So, I've got an easy fix to implement for the artifact system. Just make an item, purchasable with Stardust maybe 10 a month with more available for Genesis Crystals, that you can consume when upgrading an artifact to choose which substat is upgraded and guarantee a high roll. That way the main rng would be getting the correct main and sub stats on artifacts while still time-gating you to only 2 perfect artifacts a month for free. Sure, it'd still take over 2 months to get a character fully built but it would alleviate the issue of potentially spending over a year trying to gear a character. (Looking at you 1.4 Jean)
Artifact RNG is the single worst thing about Genshin, much worse than the gacha itself imagine having some of the best 5* characters in the game as an f2p, but you still can't see their full potential because of this dumb ass artifact RNG, fucking pathetic

-1) The set itself
-2) The piece itself
-3) The main stats for the three last artifacts pieces
-4) The substats
-5) The bonus enhancement for said substats
6) the number of substats (starting at 3 vs starting at 4)
Yeah that kind of in the same group as 4, call it 4.5. I would also add the substat high roll or low roll when it gets the enhancement bonus.. for example crit r 3.5% gets to either 6% or 9.5% in 1 up
7) The amount of mora it costs to upgrade

The craziest thing to me personally is how some people seem to be offended when someone criticizes the artifact system. Like, folks, I get it... the combat is good, the characters are charismatic, the lore is indeed interesting and intricate (Main story is absolutely insipid), but Genshin is far from a perfect game. And issues just become more and more glaring when you realize how much money this game makes per gacha banner. But anyway, that's neither here nor there...
The simplest and best compromise to the artifact system in GI would be abolishing the use of resin in artifact domains. *JUST* artifact domains. Fine, Mihoyoverse, you want to keep your rng on top of rng bullshit? Keep it. But let me farm as much as I want. It's freaking disheartening to do 8 artifact domain runs *at most* per day, not getting anything even slightly usable and then having to wait 21h to try again, especially when you're f2p/Welkin Moon buyer. In the medium to long run, that ends up destroying any joy you could derive from pulling a new character from the gacha. Yay, 3 to 6 more months before I can even use what I just got after saving primos for 2-3 months!
And before I forget, let's not ignore how the artifact system makes the already terrible new player experience even worse.

Honestly the biggest deterrent I think this game has for new players is this jank artifact system. Yeah story and exploration are fantastic, but playing for long term is just suffering. And I am a gacha veteran! Genshin isn't my first gacha game, but I have never seen a game screw their players so bad with RNG just to make them play longer until Genshin. I really hope they make changes to it because of that recent survey specifically asking about it, but I'm keeping my expectations low from Hoyoverse
honestly i think the fact that you have to pretty much catch up with the latest content to be able to upgrade the new characters past lvl 40 is enough of a deterrent for new players - at least if they got into the game for the newest characters.

Game where you are trying to max your team without a proper way to test how you do. Even a game from 2004 ( yes, WOW ) had training dummies, where you could test your damage and there were DPS addons that were so widely used. We need to see numbers, it would be great.

Honestly, it just feels like Hoyoverse gives their all into the appearance of the game and then screw everything else. Artifacts, late game content, character's kit, character's story and even the lore of the game itself ( *Especially* the Inazuma part ) just look unfinished and even unprofessional. Not only that, but there's something about the female character's that doesn't feel right, *especially* the Inazuma ones. Most of them just feels like a waifu for the nerds, *not a character for the game.* Whilst the male characters tend to have higher quality stories and interactions within the world, like Albedo, Diluc, Zhongli, Venti and even Kaeya who's a 4star. You'd normally expect the same from characters like the Shogun and Kokomi, but they're character stories didn't represent them the way they could have been represented. Eula was a character that had so much potential with her family back round, but was overshadowed because the fandom was too worried about her thighs, her dance and *a fucking sneeze.*
You also forgot to say that when farming for a specific artifact in a domain theres also a chance that you just dont get that artifact at all since theres always 2 sets in a domain..
If they just gave you the option to pick one set or the other, it would effectively double your chances of getting what you want and make it 2x easier

I've mentioned in multiple surveys how the grind to get a new character up to speed kinda dampens the excitement. Like I only have a small moment of excitement seeing the wish turn gold and it just immediately turns to "ugh, how many months will it take for me to get the right artifacts for this character?"
It has lately deterred me from spending money on the game because of how massive of a chore it is to make a new character useable in late-game

All the rolls went to flat HP, and that artifact had 1k+ flat HP 💀💀💀
I feel that at every world level increase from 4 and up, should ad 20 resin to your daily cap. An AR 35 player has 180 resin while an AR 55 player has say 220. Due to the fact that there is more resin to regain, each world level increase also lowers the resin regain time by idk, 30 seconds. The longer you play the more you play, the less you play the more you want to play.

The amount of time it takes to build a character is ridiculous. The fact that there's nothing for you to use your built characters on is even more ridiculous.

I'd like to add that it feels like there's too many "Dead" stats, getting flat anything just feels bad, the effects of flat atk/HP/Def is entirely negligible, the stat values need to be either massively buffed or be calculated differently (i.e. flat atk being included in base atk like how a weapons atk is)
The flat stats used to actually be broken in beta. They factored in before the % stats, unlike now. Dunno why mHY didn't remove them entirely.

When the new Xiao set came out I was like "yeah imma be using this within a week" since I had over 60 fragile resin saved up.
After burning all 60+ fragile and my concentrated daily resin for over a week, I've gotten 1 good flower and trash everything else (in over 150 pieces of 5* star Xiao set).
What got me excited about the game again, an upgrade to my main character, became an annoyance and burn out.
P.S: when I say trash I don't mean sub optimal, I mean actual trash (Def% /Def/ HP substats), out of something like 30 hourglasses only 2 with main Atk% (Def substats)

EXACTLY. I have been doing just this for Xiao since his first rerun, first farming VV and then his signature set but I can't get a single good piece.
Gonna be honest I was malding about artifacts a few days ago. Had the exact situation described, perfect substats but it kept going into ER after ER after ER until it was at 20% ish with every other stat not being touched. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is seeing a near perfect piece slowly devolve into "(insert non crit substat) stat stick". Honestly, only way I can see this system slightly recovered is with artifact rerolls basically allowing you to reset the stats on an artifact so you can roll it again until it's perfect. This both removes some RNG but still forces you to get more fodder to level the piece up again.
I had an onset for my main (Klee) pyro dmg goblet. Crit rate, crit dmg, ER, ATK%.
EVERY. SINGLE. ROLL. Went into ER.
So it’s 30% ER, but as much crit rate/DMG as a Lv 0 artifact.

As crazy as it sounds, the artifact system is the system in this game I would most label predatory. Sure pulling for weapons is pretty bad, but to have so many characters lack even half their value without a 4pc set is cruel. And the trend only appears to get worse. Farming for Shogun, Itto and Kokomi has been a nightmare. What threw me into a fury most was getting artifact load outs on the clam set that would be god tier on most other sets. I have several circlets on that set with double crit and atk% rolls, same for the feathers. That’s what threw me into a fury, the fact that I just knew they tweaked the RNG to give you stats that wouldn’t benefit the set.
Pulling for characters doesn’t break me, rolling a slot machine with so many variables and barriers to a decent “payout” is what breaks me. Great video as always.
i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought the rng on ocean-hued was somehow tweaked, most of my characters now have ocean-hued as an offset because i keep getting crit substats there
I also think they secretly adjust the drops once someone exist who would benefit greatly on the set.

I have had the same thought about MHY who may have tweaked the RNG on sets. I started to suspect it way back on the Thundersoother sets. Fast forward to today? It started to seem more apparent with the ER set. Been farming for months for a good ER sand piece and not once have I gotten a good one.
Yeah I noticed that too while farming for the husk set, seeing how rare def% is in that and how the clam set tend to get crits

Oh trust... we've all been there. I main Fischl and i'm still not done with her set since genshin launched cause i was fighting artifact RNG yet didn't finish the 1st set, decided to drop the game not long after rosaria hit, then came back not long before yunjin hit to find out there's another set for a main DPS Fischl build... FML
No one likes the artifact system. The people defending it are coming from a place of understanding the thinking behind it, not because they think it's great.
Thing is, "decent" artifacts for most characters gets them to around 1800-2000 ATK, 50% CR, and 100% CD, maybe some EM and ER%. A whole team with every character around those thresholds is going to thrash the overworld and domains, even against the spongier enemies, and Hoyoverse isn't very concerned with our abyss performance. They have little compelling reason to make acquiring better artifacts any easier. The way they stat out preview characters suggests they expected us to slot in an HP piece for durability (however enemy lethality is a joke so...)
Worse, any improvements (from our perspective) to the artifact RNG becomes the new "average" which in turn becomes the new minimum. People won't be happy until they get exactly the rolls they're looking for.
I do wish they would remove the resin cost to get artifacts though, but in turn disable getting mora for deleting them. Make mora (and the artifact carry cap) the limiters on artifact farming, instead of resin.
Though in the long term, I'd like if flat sub-stats were doubled in value, and if we could eat an artifact to transfer a single stat to another artifact, slot to slot. It would at least give us the opportunity to salvage artifacts with unfortunate upgrades.
I’ve been farming emblem domain for my raiden and yoimiya for god knows how long and I’ve haven’t gotten a better shim piece in about a month or more, even though my ones now are lack lustre

increasing the recharge rate would make players play the game more or feel like they're missing out if they can't. Genshin was made as a game played during the short breaks working people have, it's only supposed to take 10-20 minutes a day. It's not supposed to be the game you play for hours each day, at least not until the game is finished.
Increasing the resin cap does the same thing
Increasing the artifact quantity would force players to manage their inventory which is far more boring
Reducing the cost does the same thing as increasing recharge rate
Godroll artifacts are supposed to be a bonus. It doesn't take that long to have a usable piece instead and you can stop any time. Why do you think you deserve to be handed a bonus that's supposed to take a long time to work for on a silver platter?
Also, giving everyone godrolled artifacts would force mihoyo to increase the difficulty of the game, nullifying whatever progress you might have made except this time you can't grind to close the power gap since you already have the best artifacts. The gacha would be your only way to progress.

leves and mora shouldn't even be an issue. Many people can get 2 full teams without needing to do a single mora/exp leyline because those materials are already provided in bulk within quests, bounties etc etc.
Talent/Weapon domains are only farmed for a day or two max per weapon/talent. That's not even an issue.
World bosses? So you want to be able to get level 90 characters in 1 day instead of 2-3? How impatient are you?

Artifacts are a huge powerspike to characters, just try removing a character's artifacts and fighting mobs. To address your exaggeration that you tried to make as a point, currently with 5 layers of rng it could take anywhere from 3-8 weeks to get a 60-120 crit ratio, >1.5k atk, 120% er and spare em build. I’ve actually hit the point of being disincentivized from pulling new characters because I don’t want to farm for more artifacts. This is a game that purposefully markets new characters, different playstyles, and different builds within each character. The point stands that there’s a large amount of players that the artifact system irritates everyday, to the point of just not farming artifacts. The system’s RNG which makes it hard to draw the line between too abundant and too scarce, but one good way to tell is by what the actual players are saying. One change I would like to see is being able to choose which set drops. Based on the day or whatever. No currency to change it though or make it cost pennies.

As a new player, the resin feels extremely limiting. Just to level up a character and their aspects it takes weeks! And after you quickly use that daily resin you barely have anything else to do.
youre a new player, how can you say that ? you have plenty of story quests to do and get thousands of rewards from them. maybe it feels limiting to you because there are so many characters now. but you dont have to level every character you have

And of course there are many lazy players (including myself) who don't want to waste their time on a quests even if you want to rush it, but of course skipping through the dialogues will make you miss out the lore.

It's probably intentionally designed to be bad, addicting and time-consuming so a player has to login everyday or spend their money.
The chance of getting the right main stat, the right sub stats, the right set between the 5*, are already so low, let alone a good or godlike roll.
It's been layered with so much RNG that whoever designed this really wanted the players to suffer so that they really have to turn to whaling and spending money to get constellations and better weapons instead, if they don't want to learn in-game mechanics.
It's absolutely designed to waste your time.
They keep adding new characters and new sets specifically for those characters. You'll never have a good set for all your characters.
It's one of the aspects of the game that is making me not spend any money on it so it's really not doing it's job if it's supposed to get people to spend.
the thing is some people who has spent like 500 hours just artifact farming and then they release a patch where it becomes so easy for the other players to get good artifact and these grinders would feel like shit after grinding forever.

Sure, genshin could have auto battling, have more Qol items that allow main or substats to be rerolled or changed (like in epic seven or counterside), be as generous as Arknights, or have more weapons that enable playstyles rather than act as a BIS for a specific character, Elegy, Homa and Catch are examples of these imo. You're playing a gacha, and that has its own implications I'm afraid.

either that or make another domain or spiral abyss type of mechanism that drops items that let you reroll artifacts. and instead of resin they can have a set number of times you're allowed to complete it. and if they're worried about the number of levels or the enemies present, just let them come in survival mode similar to how they do in hyakunin ikki but with no swapping. and they can just keep buffing the stats of the enemies as they keep coming . if they're worried about how they'll make it work with the lore, they're smart people they can figure that stuff out
Also I think people who run a domain 10-20 times should have a projected pity system, where they get the specific piece they are looking for, like if I'm running Witch Set, my pity is directed to getting flowers.

@@riseark3381 that’s sickkkk it could be a weekend thing and kinda endgame -ish. The drops are an item that grants % chance to roll crit substat. In order to get it you need to deal certain amout of damage. No time limit endless one try per day during the weekend. Healer are finally relevant.
I kid you not, I have spent around 6 MONTHS trying to get a crimson witch 5 star hat with at least 1 decent substation and Crit main stat for hu Tao. Closest thing I got was a Crit main stat with def, def%, hp%, Hp flat. Just wonderful. 👍
so relatable, i spent so much resin (equivalent to doing 4 runs with condensed resin everyday for 2 months) and i didn't get a single crit rate circlet, it was either crit dmg with extremely shitty substats or all def %. i literally stopped playing for like 3 months after that, it's so discouraging.

When I first learned how the genshin artifact system worked it immediately reminded me of a less forgiving version of Splatoon's gear system, as in, substats being random for the most part. What makes Splatoon's one better is that they have 1) Items that boost chances for certain sub stat rolls. 2) a way to reset a piece of gear which lets you try again and 3) by doing so you gain shards of the "scrubbed" sub stats which, when you get enough of, you can overwrite a sub stat of another piece of gear.
If genshin did something even remotely similar to this I think it would address about 90% of the problem. Imagine the same scenario with the godly Crit Rate hat from 6:30. You don't get a single hit on Crit DMG. Now imagine if you could reset the artifact to level 0 again, and in the process you get 2 ATK shards, 1 ER shard and 2 EM shards and then you can re-level the artifact or even get a guaranteed substat increase if you have enough Crit DMG% shards. I feel like something like this will make the artifact grind more reasonable because even the sadge unlucky moments can provide some sort of progress in some direction.
Crit dmg % shards is actually a super interesting idea. We already put items into artifacts to level them, what if instead of just artifacts there were also enemy drops or crafable/buyable items that made certain sub stats more likely? Like, putting only one in raises the chance a little, but filling every slot with the item removes the rng entirely. Maybe they’re only available later in the game so that it can partially simulate some kind of linear progression (even though it would probably still have problems). Cool idea.
This sounds like one of the better ideas I've seen put forward in this comment section. More than trying to make the system slightly less RNG, there should be a system that simply gives players more control over what they do have, like rerolling substats, even if it takes some time to gain it.
I feel like they only need to change 2 thing.
1: Remove the flat stats.
Because right now getting them besides from Elementals Mastery everything else is borderline useless when the % stats is always superior.
2: Let's the players pick 1 out of the 5 artifacts pieces.
So everyone can have a good flowers and feather before getting the full set.
flat stats used to be useful in the beta, they buffed your base atk/hp/whatever idk why they took it out (maybe bc it would have made bennett so overpowered). if anything they should just make every stat have an equal chance to drop and combine the elemental dmg% stats into a single stat
They can just add a reforge system to remove one unwanted stat and replace it with another or be able to remove a wanted stat from a bad artifact and place it on another but it destroys the unwanted artifact

Honkai has a substat re-roll feature that allows you to select which specific sub stat of a stigmata you want to re-roll and whether or not you want to keep the re-rolled sub stat or not. We use a specific material to re-roll these sub stats and there’s certain materials that influence how a sub stat’s re-roll would lean towards. It’s still RNG, but allows players to adjust sub stats that would otherwise be considered “trash” or “unusable”. I’m not saying to copy and paste the system, but rather make it so that it would feel less tiring to have an item that would help in reducing “Trash Artifact” waste similarly how weekly boss drops have Dream Solvents which allow players to feel less shitty in getting the wrong boss drop… and the craftable Artifact Box system doesn’t work to fix this. It’s a decent feature, but not the right direction, most of the trash artifacts come from the wrong sub stats being raised while leveling up the artifacts, not exactly from the artifact drop rate itself. One RNG is enough, having another layer of RNG that takes up more Resources is too much. Just as the video explains RNG on top of RNG is not a good business model, and will never be a good business model. If Hoyoverse won’t adjust this, then at least allow players to feel less shitty about getting the wrong sub-stat and have the option to “Reforge” an artifact; be it a way to reset an artifact’s level back to zero, or having the ability to re-roll a specific sub stat, or re-distribute a sub stat’s ascension. And that won’t be the end of the world.
From my experience with honkai you honestly don't need those substats anyways they are extra damage but most of your damage bonuses come from the stigmata bonuses weapon bonuses and the stigmata set bonuses. And when you upgrade either a stigmata or weapon you are guaranteed to get a better bonus compared to genshin which is rng
I can see this being introduced to genshin at some point, in the same way they have been adding a lot of quality of life Alchemy features. Maybe there will be ways to convert the Set/Main Stat/Substat of artifacts in such ways. Mind you I know we can sort of already convert artifact sets but it's extremely limited and costly

Absolutely agree with everything said here. I’m also a day one player and I’ve been playing it almost daily since release. I’ve stopped playing it as of late strictly because of this horrible artifact system. I have so many amazing characters that I can’t fully utilize or build how I’d like because of my horrible rng. I don’t think anything will bring me back to this game until they change how this stupid system works. I would just like to feel rewarded for my hundreds of hours by getting some decent artifacts lol. Got to rank 55 just to still get cucked by rng

I personally believe it's too late to change the artifact system since we are so very accustomed to it. But due to its random nature the cost at least needs to be decreased by A TON. The materials that are just linear are fine.

I dont think so, its not too late to change. They could simply make domains with 1 artifact set type, so that you are guaranteed to get the set pieces you want. Its very easy to implement, dont even need new domains just make them rotate daily like materials. Most domains have 2 main sets so every other day you can farm it -.- so simple yet we wont get it
I would prefer having a higher chance for better artifacts, take out the flat stats on the sub stats and even out the chances for everything left. I don't like running most domains because I usually find them anywhere between annoying and aggregating
IMO the other option is better.
It would be less time consuming to do, allowing time to do other things such as exploration ans events
The first big change I want to see to the artifact system is to have it change where each day of the week each domain will drop a specific slot artifact, so like Wednesday is headpieces, and Thursday is flower, maybe even have it so Sunday and Tuesday you have a chance to farm any of the pieces. If they want it to stay rng on top of rng and have each domain have a set you want and a possible dead set then this could help a ton.
I'd like that, but it's one entire artifact set. Like Monday Veridecent only and Tuesday Maiden's beloved only
5:20 I would argue Emblem of Severed Fate is also an exception to that as well since many charas use that set (Xiangling, Beidou, Raiden etc) and is currently THE artifact domain to farm with Shimenawa also being usable with the 2 piece set.

not only that it's used on more than 11 characters, but also: crimson witch (used on most pyro dps'); blizzard strayer (used on most cryo dps'); husk of opulent dreams(used on 5 characters); and for the god's sake viridescent venerer is used on EVERY SINGLE ANEMO CHARACTER the only exception being Xiao who got a new set already.
I’ve always thought they need to make artifacts day dependent like talents and weapon upgrade mats. Like flowers on Mondays, feathers on Tuesday, etc. As it is you can spend days without seeing a sand, let alone it being of the artifact set you want, main stats you need or it having any good sub stats.
I feel it would be better to do it like talents but in the way you can choose which artifact you want on a certain day, either the set or the piece or even both. imagine on saturdays you get to choose to farm heart of depth goblet in that domain. saturday would be every player's dream but we can only hope cause it doesnt seem like theyre planning it any time soon (hopefully I'm wrong)
@@renoirrr the thing is that imo the biggest issue is the rate in which types of artifacts drop. Sands and goblets, at least for me, drop way less. If you knew on Thursdays you would get sands you’d drop all your resin trying to get a good one. I’m looking at you emblem set! For the first 2 month of playing I didn’t have any crit rate circlet. Let alone a good one, I thought they were a myth. I would’ve dropped all my resin and more on a circlet day. However, I’m good with them taking any rng off the plate. If they go for set, I’d take it. One less rng to worry abt. Emblem day here we go.
@@marar8045 the reason I suggested having only one day where you can choose which set/piece is because if it was monday - flower, tuesday - feather and so on then if you want to get a specific piece, say a timepiece, you have to wait until that day and the weekend to farm for it, whereas if it were just one day u were able to choose and the rest stays the same then there's still the chance to get that timepiece every other day.
since resin cannot stack up over the limit unless you use fragile resin then it's kind of wasting every other day's worth if you're not interested in the other pieces. sure, you could farm for another character but you could be stuck in that one domain because you have no other character to farm for in other domains (farming in that damn dragonspine domain for 6 months will be the death of me).
sorry for carrying on but my point is if you're looking to farm something like that perfect goblet, at least you would have a chance to obtain it every day of the week, instead of just on certain days.

The best fix would be SLIGHT changes of rng for the artifacts without making them too easy or impossible to farm.
1. Make every domain drop each set every other day. There is no reason not to do so, just like talent books or weapon mats. Imagine talents and weapon mats dropping randomly...
2. Make MAIN stats of artifacts - primarily sands and circlet drop with the same rate. Someone could spend multiple months to get EM goblet/circlet/sands in viridescent domain and that is not normal by any standard. ER sands on Emblem set is close too.
3. Make onset elemental goblets more likely to drop. So having geo goblet on geo set would actually become normal and not a literal miracle like it is now.
And honestly, I think this is enough to feel better when farming artifacts and feel rewarded for doing so. Substats rng can even stay the same imo.

this is so true. Getting artifacts is by far the hardest part of maxing out a character, and the game in general. Not only do you have to pray from the right set, but then the right piece, the main stat, sub stat, and then rolling into the correct sub stat. At this point i would be happy if they changed it so that you can control which set you want like you do for talent books.
There should be artifacts in every area of the new region of the game in set locations.
The sad fact is that everyone knows and acknowledges this problem, there's lots of heavy spenders that keep saying that it's fine to face this kinda artifact system without realising it's very taxing for f2ps considering they don't even get to recharge their resin to Max with primos everyday(unless you're not saving them for a character)
I'm what could be considered a heavy spender and I absolutely hate the artifact system. There are plenty of other whales that feel the same way because no matter how much you spend, artifact luck halts progress for whales and f2p alike

I completely agree. I feel motivated to improve my characters, but automatically resort to improving the character talents and level first. The moment I have to consider artifacts my motivation evaporates. I really can't be asked to waste time, resources and attention when there's a guaranteed way to improve.
You by far, of any Genshin youtubers (or even youtubers in general) have such a solid understanding of the fundamentals on game design and a consistent quality to your discussions, being able to articulate on points in an informative manner without repeating yourself. As a Comp Sci major with an emphasis on Game Design/Development, this channel and your videos are quite the gems, elevated by the fact that its on a game I love and care about as well.
The artifact system really is the one aspect that drains my motivation to play the game. I'll still get on to do my dailies, but some days I don't even spend my resin cuz I know I should use it on artifacts and it just feels pointless to try. Several times I've gone months trying to build a certain character, that sometimes I even skip character banners cuz I have too many I still need to build already.
Same, I love the game and am still involved in the community, but there is times I go days without actually playing because all there is to do is grind artifacts and it's feels like a chore, and there feels like no reward to doing it.

I have Xiao, Kazuha, Shenhe, Klee, Jean, Hu Tao, Yoimiya, etc all level 1, because I can’t fathom the idea of having to grind for all eternity for even USEABLE artifacts…I have 1. ONE artifact with a Crit value of 34, and that’s it…. I

To me, the biggest issue with the artifact system is what gets brought up right after the 10-minute mark: the extreme randomness of the current artifact system completely derails the feeling of making progress by spending your resin. Leveling talents can get really expensive in mora, talent books, and enemy materials, but you can dedicate time or resin to collect any of these things and you know for certain that what you're doing is getting you closer to the character being "finished." You can run talent domains and know that every run means progress regardless of how high the leveling costs rise.
Arfitacts work completely differently, though. Instead of every run bringing some level of guaranteed progress, every run is instead just another pull on a slot machine that you know is built not to work in your favor. It's not chipping away with slow but steady progress on improving your characters; it's spending time and resources making no progress until you hit a breakthrough at some indeterminate point. This way, even when you do finally get a full set that feels good enough for a character, the end result doesn't feel rewarding because it's now not equipment that you really built, just something the game finally decided to gift to you. I don't mind the wide array of artifact sets feeling too specialized if you could still see the endpoint of farming a new set when you start it.
I wonder if they could implement a system where you could "level up" an artifact after it already hit level 20 where it wouldn't improve the main stat anymore, but every four bonus levels-worth of experience would let you swap a substat for another or otherwise redistribute where some of the bonus rolls go. Even this way as long as you found an artifact with the right main stat, you know that you can eventually build that one into what you want, even if it still takes more exp to get there.
I feel like it could be pretty intuitive and fair if they kept the randomness for HOW MUCH a substat is upgraded but make it so that we can choose WHICH substat we want to upgrade.

I wrote in my survey that mainstat and substats should be lockable and rerollable. Resetting an artifact to its lvl1 state when it reaches 20 would also be a massive improvement. Not getting any resources back is fine and this way it still keeps a factor of mihoyos beloved rng

Been saying this also. Make it so resetting requires 40-60 resin. I’ll even do 160 resin to reset an artifact. Or even a limit to how many you can reset per day/week. The most annoying part of artifact grinding is having a really good piece become dog shit. And the chances of finding another god tier starting artifact is so fucking low, it shouldn’t even be a problem. God just thinking about how all my double crit rolls electro goblets managed to avoid both crit stats completely makes my blood boil.

I think the amount of specificity in this game is getting out of hand.
Spending a boatload of money or dozens of hours on weapons and artifacts that would only ever be useful on 1-2 characters is absurd.

That's what I did for the longest time. I may be an extreme case, but I actually leveled all my characters to at least 70 for the free acquaint fates from ascensions. Then I maxed out the weapons and talents of the characters I use most. I legit avoided artifacts like the plague and instead used copium boss drops on all my characters.
Sadly, I eventually had nothing to do except farm artifacts. Now I'm rotting in emblem domain and it's tedious af. Unironically one of the reasons I get excited about new characters is the knowledge that I have an excuse to farm bosses, ley lines and talent/weapon domains for them. Guaranteed progress feels so good and refreshing.
I stopped farming artifacts and make do with 2pc+2pc Gladiator/Wanderer/Berserker/Exile for most of my characters. Farming artifact is boring and I'm gonna get shit artifacts anyway, so why bother. It's not like I want to perfect clear abyss 12th floor or anything.
Having to grind months just to get 2 vv EM pieces, not even mentioning how good, was such a drag. Finally getting it felt insanely good but at what cost. When trying to just go for upgrades for e.g. Raiden, I'm going mad at this point. The limitations and layers of rng are terrible.

I had the same problem with the maiden set for yaoyao where I kept on getting def instead of hp. She still have the artifacts you get from the experience section
Imagine if the piece the domain drops is dependent on the day. Like Monday-flowers only, Tuesday-feathers only, etc. It’d make farming easier (similar to ascension mats) and you’d be able to complete a set more reliably.
I actually almost sold my account once because I spent 6 weeks without an ATK% sands drop. This system also completely breaks the balance because of how much character's power depends on the artifacts.
Expecting balance in any rpg is the absolute height of comedy . Literally ANY game that is so heavily reliant on stats / numbers are going to be inherently unbalanced. Or are you gonna sit there and really try and pretend games like older Final Fantasy and even Pokemon are actually 'balanced' ? It's especially funny cause you have a Morgana from P5 pfp and Morgana is IMMEDIATELY outclassed my Makoto as a party member due to rpgs being inherently unbalanced games.

Suggestions for artifacts
-Give players an option to use a sort of alchemy formula to allow tempering/changing of substats/main stats. Kinda like the Umbracites in Nioh.
-Make each substat scale off of the 4/8/12/16/20 level evenly.
-Increase the XP offered by the Artifact XP mats sold in the teapot. The only real efficient way to get XP for artifacts is by more artifact farming
-Can we at least get more Resin/higher refresh rate? Hell scratch the other suggestions. Just have this fixed and some significant problems would get fixed.
You mean higher refresh rate , lower rates would mean like instead of 1 resin per 8 mins it's now like 10 mins

I also feel like they have set bonuses done backwards. They reserve unique gimmicks and means of making a character's playstyle unique (or just playable like Kokomi) under the 4-piece set. Going for pairs of 2-piece sets is outright kneecapping yourself outside of a few specific characters. You can not mix and match, only do one thing for one character and be damn lucky in the meanwhile
One could really open the doors for customization if the sets were reworked so we weren't forced at gunpoint to go for full sets. For generalists or to give certain characters multiple tasks, they can run pairs, like giving Kokomi both overhealing attack with Ocean-Hued Clam and attack buffing with Heart of Depth. And for specilization, they can go the full set, making Kokomi either a pure healer or a pure Hydro DPS/sub-DPS (provided she get the slight tweaks in her base kit to make her better capable at fighting)
Kokomi is actually well designed. She works well on even low investment and her best set set is Tenacity and she does not care very much about sub stats because she is not trying to rng into crit while using artifacts main stats almost no one else wants.
The trouble is putting powerful gimmicks in the 2-piece set bonus makes the 4-piece set bonus basically useless.
I think a better option is to put a 3-piece set bonus which has a unique gimmick but not as powerful as the 4-piece set bonus, so then some characters could run a 2-piece from one set and a 3-piece from another. Like for example Ningguang could run 2-piece Gladiator (+18% ATK) and 3-piece Archaic Petra (+15% Geo DMG Bonus; upon obtaining Elemental Shard +10% DMG Bonus for that element for the whole team). Or something like that.

The artifact system is one of the major reasons why it made me took a break from Genshin the first time. Doing the same domain over and over really contributed to why I got burnt out.
I agree, this is really one of the reasons i quit the game, i played since day 1, and i spent more than 8 months just farming the most optimal artifacts for my 2 teams in abyss, i wanted them to have the best artifacts possible more than (50:100 crit ratio,and certain ER threshholds for xl and xq), even though the current artifacts can still clear the abyss 36 stars already. When I wanted to pull for new units though, a realization dawned upon me, I'd have to farm an entirely new character when i'm not even satisfied with the current one. And there is literally no point to rolling other characters. My 2 teams are already cracked being hutao xq in team 1 and childe reverse vape in team 2. I no longer needed other units.
The thing with this game is the endgame is literally garbage. Once you can consistently clear abyss 36 star, There is no more motivation, ur just grinding for the sake of a small chance to get ur character slightly stronger. With that being said, I still love this game at heart, the characters are really well designed, the world is beautiful, but it is just not for me.

Once people get 36* with good meta teams, they start branching out and trying new teams...for fun. I guess, most players are so reward driven that it no longer becomes about having fun and more about getting "stuff" for the amount of work and time put in.
There's a reason why most content producers advise in summoning for whoever the hell you want after you can 36*. The game is essentially done for you and you can just treat it as a sandbox game. Everything you do is just for fun past this point. If you are stuck in a "perfection" mindset, it becomes really toxic because you can enjoy a game as a game anymore.

There's so many issues around this character progression. Especially when gated with random artifacts like this. Tbh darksiders item upgrading system is something to consider. We can choose the stats we want for upgrade according to what we feed into that item. We can put all the 3 star and 4 star with crit substat to upgrade the crit stat. This is tough but at least less rng. I think this is great for reducing the randomness.
I’ve been trying for MONTHS to get perfect artifacts for Childe and even though I have most of it now I’m still lacking a good enough goblet and flower and it’s honestly so frustrating

bro if u think that's bad. i think if i tell u my story u would be scared . i farmed for pale flame for my eula ever since she came on her rerun with albedo. that's quite a lot of time. and if i have to guess i may have spend well over 15000 total resin on that domain but i have not gotten a single artifact with over 30 cv. NOT A SINGLE DAMN ONE. never in my life have i even been so angry about something. in all this time let alone good substats , i think i never got to see a single atk% sands after all this resin. i just recently gave up on that and started farming for ayato. i m so mad that i never got to maximize my eula dmg and probably i m not gonna use her again cuz that would give some serious ptsd. i literally left her without even using her properly. i m never touching that domain again.
I genuinely used to like the artifact system, about 50 hours ago. I only have 1 decently built Keqing at this point and I'm working on a Diluc I recently pulled and the longer I have to grind for artifacts the less I'm enjoying Genshin and I do genuinely think I'm close to burnout, Ley Line disorders even make them more annoying to run through it's like the game is punishing you on so many levels just for trying to enjoy it
I love this channel. Coming from a game dev community, this is exactly the intelligent analysis I love. Everything you say is spot on and thought-provoking. MiHoYo would really benefit from watching these. If they adopted this advice, players would be happier and MiHoYo would likely make more money.

This video hits harder to me after I finally managed to get out of the Viridescent Venerer farming hell this week. 20 days worth of resin until I finally got a 5* EM goblet to finish a proper 4 piece set. No circlets on sight, but at least I had random off-set ones.
Logging in everyday just to throw my resin there in 10 minutes and seeing how I was getting absolutely nothing of value (and a lot of useless Maiden's Beloved pieces too) was the worst time I had playing this game so far. And who knows for how much longer I could have been stuck there if my luck had been worse...

My hope is that Genshin will eventually be pressured into fixing this. FGO in its first couple of years was very similar in its issues, recently they’ve taken to making things a lot easier on the players (JP side not NA don’t get on me for that) due to losing sales. Genshin pays a lot more attention to its fan base though and it doesn’t have the luxury of such a well known IP like Fate/ to back it up, so hopefully that process is a lot sooner,

I would prefer a laborious and time-consuming artifact system but know where we are going with all this time and resources invested.
I imagine a system where you can choose in advance the set, the type of artifact, the main stat and the 4 secondary stats (with fixed values). This artifact doesn't exist yet, you have to invest resources to create it little by little.
The coveted stats (CR and CDMG) will be more expensive in resources, and the less coveted (HP, DEF) will be more affordable.
To get these resources, you have to farm in the respective domains of the artifact set.
The artifact will be improved percent by percent, and may require special resources for certain levels. Maybe like crowns for lvl 10 talents, but less rare.
In the end, the perfect artifact will be long and costly to finish, but you would be sure to get it at the end of the road.
I agree! And I hope in the future they add the ability to "re-roll" sub stats on artifacts you have already obtained.
I just wish the main stat was "Elemental Damage", instead of specific elements. But if they really would make it better, making a artifact shareable or letting us choose which substat I want to level every 4 levels

What they need to incorporate is a way to reset level 20 artifacts to 0 using 40-60 resin. This would make it a lot more forgiving and encourage people to min-max if they so choose to. Players will have the choice of either running for more artifacts or using their precious resin to reset artifacts. Hell I’ll even do a 100 resin cost reset.

It makes me want to question why they would implement this sort of mechanic into the game. It’s really unnecessary having players to spend your resins or sometimes your lovely freemogems or your real world money on artifacts you don’t want, especially when also receive random stats you don’t want. I would be fine if Hoyoverse divided two different artifacts separately per challenge. For example if I was going after thundering fury only, then I challenge this domain that only gives you thundering fury, instead of an additional thundersoother.
And as for me who has played the game for 4 months, this is where the point the resin system and lack of endgame content starts rearing its ugly head.
I have about 500 hours so far, I have one artifact that rolled with like 30% CD and that's my best artifact.
But even getting enough artifacts to level your artifacts is a pain

You know why they implement this time consuming and mundane system? So that people don't instantly perfect their characters and quit the game complaining "too ez' or "nothing to do". Sure its a horrible way to doing it but it has a purpose. Should still be adjusted here and there though.

I started playing Genshin Impact 3 months ago, and I'm just now hitting the artifact grind. I have no interest in running Spiral Abyss or breaking DPS world records, so I don't mind the many layers of RNG on the substats. I'm just looking for 5 star pieces from the right set with the right main stat, and I still find the current system underwhelming.
The funny thing is that I dislike running some of the artifact domains anyway. Even if Hoyoverse gave us unlimited attempts, I'd only do around 4 runs per day, because I don't find them fun.
I don't need an incentive to limit my playtime, so for me the combination of the resin system and the layers of RNG feels like overkill. It's like Hoyoverse don't want me to play the game lol.

Agreed 100%. Am new player, resin didn't bother me since there is story, and other stuff to do. But then i got to the point, when am just waiting for new updates, and story quest's. Sooo... i want to build my character for like abyss, or just trying different stuff, different team comps. But guess what? I think artifacts needing resin is the worst part if everything was the same but we had an infinite amount of tries and artifacts weren't time gated then it would be fine it would be like shiny hunting in Pokémon but could only do nine encounters per day that would take me 455 days to catch a single one it's insanity
the artifact system presents potential for character building exploration. but then they shot every body on both foot, ankles, calves, shins, knees, thighs and buttcheeks by making the system as random as it is. i know they want to make money through resin recharges but i'd say allowing players to comfortably make multiple builds for one character would do the job as well if not better.
It’s not even the randomness, but the fact that it’s so damn unforgiving. With pulls, you get guaranteed if you lose 5050. With abyss, if you can’t 3 star a chamber due to not having the proper team but can 3 star the other two, you can always come back with another team. With artifact farming? Absolutely nothing. We are at the mercy of whatever bullshit luck we have that day. There’s no reset. There’s no way to guarantee anything. That’s so counterintuitive to what the game is supposed to be-a casual gacha game.
Completely true, the artifact system is the main reason why I have so much unleveled characters and characters on my blacklist, who'll never get a chance. While you don't need more than 1-2 characters of each element to play the game, you also can't afford building more. You literally get more free wish currency than resin to use the characters you get by wishing.
Not that having infinite resin can save this as doing artifact domains is unreasonably boring and 200 times for each character is a big no.
And then there is the problem they try to target this at casual players. As a casual player you ain't gonna play every day and use 180 resin. At best you'll play twice a week and use 2x160. So now instead of 2 months, it takes you 7 to max out a single character, well, good luck with that. And that's assuming you haven't already stopped logging in when you ran out of content, reverting to waiting mode for the next major content update, which gives you zero progress for months.
Tbh having infinite resin but still trash rng is better than what the system is now. At least I can seat down and stoneface myself through 500 domain runs and feel some kind of progression, rather than 500 runs spread out through a hundred days which burns me out and give zero sense of progression at all.
I agree it's pretty boring and also annoying with the introduction of riftwolves that manages to be more annoying to fight than the abyss mages. That's why I kept doing coop with strangers to share the suffering that is artifacts grind.
Having Goblets be "Elemental Damage Bonus" instead of one random specific element would be so much better... Just to name one single aspect of this whole f'ed up system
That makes so much more sense. Over a complete year of playing this game, and i still don’t have a decent hydro damage goblet. My best one so far has 6% crit rate and thats literally it. I don’t have another single usable goblet.

yeah its like all games are made by companies whose goal is to make money, but the good ones have devs who actually listen and work with their players to improve the game like league or r6. problem with genshit is that the devs do not give a fuck about their players, but it doesn't matter because they make money either way. The problem in short is not RNG but RNG (The correct set) behind another RNG (The correct piece) behind another RNG (The correct main stats) behind another RNG (The correct Sub stats) behind another RNG (The correct 1st roll) behind another RNG (The correct 2nd roll) behind another RNG (The correct 3rd roll) behind another RNG (The correct 4th roll) behind another RNG (The correct 5th Roll)
Don't forget the RNG to determine the quantity of substat boost you get every 4 levels. Crit DMG, for instance, can rise by anywhere between 5.4% and 7.8%.
Honestly it feels like the real issue is just the randomness to how substats roll every 4 levels if that was controllable or a new item allowed you to re roll them it would definitely be better.

My biggest saving grace with Genshin is that while i play the game daily, i don't really do things like Abyss so artifacts can just be 'good enough' for me because I don't need the best of the best
Same for me. I play GI for the lore so as long as i can clear story, that's fine. But it doesnt change the fact that artifact system sucks. Tbh combat is the lamest aspect of this game imo so i dont bother with this too much. I still enjoy soloing boss tho
you are the minority though, im glad you arent as impacted, but for most players, especially the spenders, having 300$ characters with only 30 mins of content every 2 weeks that justifies using them is unacceptable. at the end of the day mihoyo wants our money, but gives us nothing to use the characters on that any other character cant do....at this point i have every single character and my overworld team is just Razor Childe Venti and Qiqi because it can do everything...mine...break any shield, easy healing, etc....sure i can use a c3 raiden on farming routes, but why....nothing has 200k hp...and ill have to swap teams if i run into the wrong mobs or struggle through them with melee attacks...
@@coolguy48457 yeah this is the entire reason I've only built 4 characters (beidou, yanfei, mona, and diona) cause I can kill any enemy (regular and weekly bosses included) and i don't have to stress about artifacts, good enough is good enough. don't do abyss since u invest all that time just for 1200 primos a month (not even 10 pulls) and its to get a character who you wouldn't even use for over 1 hour each day. each limited 5* does 1 thing rly well, but are kinda trash at anything else. 4*s and standard 5*s have way more general uses, especially with constellations so its like... why shoot urself in the foot just to look at pretty girl/chad guy :p sucks watching rest of community stress ab these things though haha... feel bad for em all... guess its a good thing to not care ab new characters and/or dealing the most damage possible lawl...
Everything you said is so true. Artifact farming with its endless rng layers is incredibly frustrating, and with the resin cap even more so. They should really fix that. I like your suggestion of removing the resin for those domains so you at least have to only deal with the rng.
I would also like to add sth to one point you made (and maybe you will touch upon that in another video?): i have a problem with genshin apparently being a game "for casual players" which "isn't made to be played for hours", when (due to the open world) in the beginning you have SO MUCH to do and actually CAN play for several days. And then suddenly you get to a point where you're forced to just... stop. You got used to playing genshin for a couple of hours every day and now you can't anymore. It's like being on a highway and suddenly there's a pedestrian zone and you're being told that it's always been a pedestrian zone, what were you thinking driving this quickly? That's what it was like for me and it honestly gave me whiplash. That is such poor game-design
Yeah I think mixing open world RPG-style while being a mobile gacha game just doesn't feel right to begin with and sadly the problem is here to stay. I've played various kind of gacha games from afk type to rhythm game type to action type but none of them feels like I'm hitting a wall everytime I ran out of "playing tickets" as much as Genshin does.
You hit me hard with the crit circlet rolling 4 perfect subs but then every roll went to EM up to lvl 16. I had that happen yesterday and it absolutely crushed me
@@zeosummers3984 because a crit rate circlet with 5% attack, 4.5% er, 5.7% crit D, and almost 80em is no where near as good as the crit rate circlet I was running with 20 crit D and 10% attack even if the other two stats are def % and flat def... Just because an arti has 4 optimal substats doesn't mean it'll be good. He literally mentions this exact scenario in the video.
agree, another layer of rng is actually getting the right sets from a said domain! i’ve been farming HoD for Ayato so that he is usable as soon as i pull him, but majority of what i get from that domain is the Blizzard set. don’t get me wrong, ik it’s a good set and i most prob want Ayaka too, but Ayato’s banner it’s first my lads.., and don’t get my started on the substat rolls i’ve done so far :((

I only have 32 characters and out of them i built 19 of them and they r battle ready to 36* abyss (no art effect switching, they r built) and i only pyll for meta wifus soo u got then ganyu ayaka c2 ei zl child jean mona diluc etc and all my 4* meta units have very hight cons like c6 xl bedou sukros fis diona. C5 sara xq and c4 bennet. Only things want and missing is kazuha and dendro arcon
The main culprit to me is simply Resin. The simple fact that Resin actively prevents you from playing the game pretty much exacerbates any and all problems in the game.

Exactly. And even if they wanted to still have a means to gatekeep progression, they could just make it so that alongside resin being refreshed every few minutes, include the finite possibility of collecting it in the overworld much like naku weeds, cor lapis, mushrooms or pearls. It'd not only make grinding for characters much more doable but also encourage players to explore areas they haven't yet touched, as well as keep them engaged with all aspects of the game. If that isn't a possibility then make it so that players can use mora or materials to have their artifacts roll into the substats THEY want, the more mora or materials invested the higher the roll. It really isn't that hard, it's as if Hoyoverse are trying to get people to rage quit their game.

No, for artifacts it is not a resin problem but an RNG problem. The resin system works fine for everything else. There is just too much RNG in it. They need to remove 1 or 2 layers of RNG from the artifact system. For example being able to aim for a specific artifact on certain days rather than getting a chance to get one or the other. In this game you do not need very good quality artifacts even for the hardest content in the game. They just need to be decent. It is nice to have a godly artifact but totally unnecessary. I also dislike that the garbage stats are so heavily favored rather than an equal chance for any one of them.

My fixes: The existing artifact system is fine excpt the substat randomness, especially with how important substats are.
1. When you reach every fourth level, you get to choose which substat to level (except if it has 3, the new one will be random).
2. Resin should be more. I feel lke AR 16 is the base so AR times ten as the max and 60/AR + 4 minutes for the rate (rounded down to the 30 seconds)
That is it. It would increase long term gameplay and just make things so much better. It might actually be plausible to fully build everyone after 1 year or 2 (by which time there will be more characters.
epic seven does it in a way that for a 4* gear, where the 4th slot will only appear at +12. so if u got 3 godly starting substat u dont have to worry abt the risk getting a crappy 4th stat that rolls into it until +12 and ruin the gear (their max enhance is +15, but growth is every +3). so even if it rolled a shit sub on +12, it only has 1 chance to roll in it
At this point, I'd even be happy if they at least let us choose which artifact set we wanna get. I'm getting so many copium and decent shimenawa pieces and i dont even have a single usable emblem piece 💀
Rather than more resin, I prefer more loot. Farming can get mind-numbing sometimes.
I must admit, as I like to complain about the artifact system, I have to admit every time the perfect artifact hits, you try that piece out on your main and see the visible increase in damage. That's the most satisfying feeling ever
I think every player consciously agrees artifact rng is trash, but i dont think Mihoyo are dumb. They know how to keep players playing and have made the calculated decision that losing players to burnout is worth keeping the players that will grind forever because of how impossible it is to gear characters.

So after having watched this video and actually having thought about the problems behind the current artifact system I can think of three changes that could be made that could help to alleviate the RNG problem. I'm going to place these in order I think would be most to least helpful.
First which a lot of other viewers suggested would be to allow for the rerolling of sub-stats. Personally I think this should be done for individual sub-stats rather than rerolling all at once and that it should cost the player nothing more than Mora say between 10000 to 100000 to reroll a single sub-stat. Rerolling the main stat if allowable should only be done at max artifact level and rerolling the main stat resets the artifact to level one.
Second get rid of the random range that sub-stats can level up with and just make it a fixed amount just like the main stat. To keep from punishing players who don't already have amazing artifacts the fixed sub-stat level up amount should be close to the maximum amount that a sub-stat can gain in the current system.
Third whenever a sub-stat can level up allow players the option to choose which sub-stat levels up, or let them choose an option where the sub-stat will level up randomly but it will do so with say a bonus of say 25% to how much the sub-stat improves. This way even though there's still an extra element of random chance there's also the element of player agency that allows them to choose whether to take that chance, and reap the potential benefits, or not.
I kind of wish this video had come out before the Artifacts survey because I would have doubtless made these suggestions to Mihoyo.
The only issue is, knowing what we know about how they fudge the odds of getting good stats, rerolling would be only a different flavor of pain as opposed to how we do it now. Do enjoy the well thought out response you gave though :)
Can agree with all that you said, the system really sucks to the point that level 1 characters can do the same damage with perfect artifacts than level 90 characters with good to medium artifacts
to be fair, leveling a character from 1 to 90 usually takes about 2 weeks if you're focused, while getting the better artifacts can take months, so that seems balanced in terms of time investment

@@justsomeguy727 Yes it is possible to do that. For example, I can make my lvl 20 ningguang do 10k on her e on a crit just because I have good artifacts and a decently lvled up weapon. I could make this number even higher if I used supports such as Bennett and Zhongli.

Artifact farming really is my least favorite part of the game overall. It's not even RNG on top of RNG, it's more like RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG repeating. You need it to give you a 5-star that is the right piece (RNG Number 1) from the right set (RNG Number 2), with the right main stat (RNG Number 3) and the right sub stats (RNG Number 4), and _then_ you have to worry about sub stat rolls (RNG Numbers 5-10 x 2).
One of the most annoying issues I've faced is a domain refusing to give me artifacts from the set I'm trying to farm. I've farmed the Dragonspine domain I don't know how many times, and it prefers to give me Blizzard Strayer, when I'm trying to get Heart of Depth. When I _finally_ get at least one Heart of Depth 5-star, it's usually a flower or a feather. If it is one of the other three, it usually has the wrong main stat and/or garbage sub stats.
It's to the point where I've decided to farm Heart of Depth for Kamisato Ayato despite them making a set that's supposedly for him because I cannot pre-farm the new set, but I _can_ pre-farm HoD, and I want to use him as soon as possible after I pull him.
I do have some amount of hope for the future because of the survey Hoyoverse sent out a while back asking about how we feel about the game and its mechanics. One of the questions asked about what mechanics we find boring and had artifact farming as one of the answers. I slammed that answer so hard and then wrote about it in the text box at the end of the survey.
It wouldn't even be THAT bad if resin costs were lowered and not EVERYTHING cost resin. Do the weekly bosses REALLY need to cost resin when we can only do them once a week anyway? No.
Do skill books/exp/mora need to cost as much resin as artifacts? No.
And even at that, you could STILL forgive how bad the artifact system is if there was some way to reroll for stats. Main or Sub.
How many times have you gotten an on piece artifact with absolutely perfect subs only for it to be HP%, or you finally get your only electro damage goblet in months but, oh, look at that it has absolutely nothing useful as it's substats.
If you could reroll artifacts or even just let us unlevel them so we can try again for that perfect substat rolls things would be at least reasonable.
I am just glad you don't need awfully god roll artifacts to clear most of the spiral abyss. Artifact RNG only preys on perfectionists. I just hope we can get artifact pre-sets soon so switching pieces between characters ain't such a hassle.
can you please explain the appeal of abyss? it takes a lot of effort to fully complete, but you only earn 1200 primos a month, which isn't even 10 pulls. it seems like every time i ask people, they just say "because there's nothing better to do". since abyss is the only thing people care about after reaching the "endgame", I don't understand how the game itself is worth playing, if abyss is the only thing people do, and its not even because they find it enjoyable. Personally, the I'm ar56 after 7 and a half months playing and have never touched abyss past 8-3 because it looks like a complete waste of time. Hoping that you can help me understand :D also I've heard the argument "somethings better than nothing" but I cant get why you'd grind for a new unit who doesn't out-damage hutao/ganyu or out-support bennet/xq, unless of course you don't own them yet, but once u get them, why continue? (sry for essay)
@@Frencoh If you've checked one of var's previous video about spiral abyss, only personal motivation and extra spare primos (especially for f2p) are what drove people to go further. Yes, this is a PvE game so it's up to the player's decision when it comes to tackling anything in this game. I personally love playing spiral abyss just to test team comp tailored specifically for a featured 5 star that I happened to roll for, whether or not they're meta. Better than ganyu/hutao? maybe not. Offering gameplay slightly different from ganyu/hutao? definitely. People can become bored of playing the same unit so they switch to something new.
Dude thank you for mentioning the presets. I've been asking for gear and artifacts preset for quick switching since long ago and I don't see other people mentioning the same thing it almost made me insane considering even Honkai has it

I hope to see more artifact sets at the crafting table. Some gacha games have events where you can make your own piece/gear with the stats you want.
i really wish we could choose what set we want from a domain we are farming at instead of wasting time and resin just to not only get trash drops but the wrong sets..
I completely agree with your point; I just wanted to make a slight correction. Substitutes matter more than set bonuses. You can have five random artifacts that have no set bonus do significantly more damage than a full set.
what hurts most is when you just got a perfect artifact after months of farming and you don't have any mora left to fully level it up with no resin left
Resources in general are so limited in this game. They keep adding new artifacts, new units, new weapons but resin you need to upgrade them is so limited. You are not only resin limited but rng limited as well
The artifact system is the only thing that prevents me from inviting friends to play...because i know they would hate it and drop the game in a week, or the moment they see how bad it is...also another point is that the artifacts need other artifacts to level them and every level increases the EXP cap then with the exp from lvl16 to 20 you can literally level another piece to lvl16, and the exp transfer from 1 artifact to the other is not 100%, making dificult leveling new artifacts with old ones more efficient
Even the supposed QoL upgrade as a teapot shop feels too limiting, the item for leveling artifacts are too expensive for too little level increase and I can't buy every single item from the shop in 1 week before it resets even though I login every day to collect the coins
@@karkovb5306 Only the resin and artifact material is really worth buying. I haven't ran out of any other upgrading material besides the artifact fodder.
@@tudormese Unfortunately I already written up very,,very, very specific instructions for Miyiho to follow regarding when they could add on more markers into the game making it very closely related to EXACTLY how much of the regions is made available inside of the game to be made available to be actually finalized(?) as well. It did not specifically specify exactly what I meant to say by region, per say. The resin system is probably set up among the fact that the people who played the game before anyone else did not have a job yet themselves as well. Also Touhou Lost World, the company also directly mentioned that the screen for the books is intentionally set up that way because they expect people playing the game to have an actual job already as well. The artifacts are scattered around the region making them practically impossible to find them without marking them/ remembering where they are at all times as well.
I believe that Mihiyo also mentioned that they are friends with them in actual real life as well. I did believe that they helped make certain scenarios that we ACTUALLY SAW on our screens as well.
I'd even be fine with the artifacts rolling random stats when they drop, but just make it so that you can DECIDE what sub stat gets leveled up when you hit the level up bonuses for that artifact. Because that makes it so you don't waste your resources except using Resin.

you deciding which substat sounds doable if it's probably every lvl 16 once per artifact. it'll lower the RNG and make every artifact you roll is usable
So, I've got an easy fix to implement for the artifact system. Just make an item, purchasable with Stardust maybe 10 a month with more available for Genesis Crystals, that you can consume when upgrading an artifact to choose which substat is upgraded and guarantee a high roll.
That way the main rng would be getting the correct main and sub stats on artifacts while still time-gating you to only 2 perfect artifacts a month for free. Sure, it'd still take over 2 months to get a character fully built but it would alleviate the issue of potentially spending over a year trying to gear a character. (Looking at you 1.4 Jean)
Artifact RNG is the single worst thing about Genshin, much worse than the gacha itself
imagine having some of the best 5* characters in the game as an f2p, but you still can't see their full potential because of this dumb ass artifact RNG, fucking pathetic
