One of the best decisions ever, so THANKS for this channel and his wonderful tutorials in combat tactics like this one! 🙂 Please continue! On the Felon's RCS, I think the consensus is that the Felon is just slightly "stealthier" than a clean super hornet. Better than something Like an F-15 or Su-27 by miles, and being clean it's much stealthier than planes with a bunch of weapons/pylons externally mounted, but I mean, it has an exposed IRST lens and simple allen head screws all over, it's not THAT low observable and certainly nowhere near the the F-22. All of that is just from the front. From the rear, it's literally just a Su-35 booty.
Also, the fan blades are exposed. If you look at a felon from the front, you can see the engine fan blades, while the F-22 uses an S-Duct to take air to the engines, for example. And having the spinning blades exposed like that increases RCS and makes IR detection easier. I think there's some fuckery with the F35 single engine's intake to hide the blades, but it doesn't have the S-Duct from the F22
All sources i found say the Felons average rcs is 0.1 to 1 m^2, while a naked Hornets minimal rcs is arround the same. I am not exactly sure what the russians mean by average rcs, but since they make a distinction between average and minimal rcs i think its fair to assume that the felon is quite a bit stealthier than the Hornet. The production version of the Felon dropped the Su-35s cone shaped booty in favor of stealthier one. It also doesn't use allen head screws anymore and all the exposed metal was covered. It's definetly not as stealthy as the F22 or F35 but i think its stealthy enough to fight said aircraft on pretty much even terms.
SU-57 seems to be a test bed to RuAF research stealth and its applications. They will evolve the SU-57 with time when it start to be export I think that I already read in someplace that they are solving the duct with the upgrade of the engines.
It’s all about the exposed “edges” - edges are super efficient at scattering incoming RF radiation. Seamless geometries that “deliberately scatter away from the emitter” is key, before radar applying absorbing coatings/matls get used.
Very nicely done! I'm really loving these longer range interception / fighter sweep setups, especially with the TacView at the end. You really do a wonderful job showcasing all of these different skills, pushing the aircraft to its limits in all regimes of flight.
I worked for General Dynamics / Lockheed Martin for over 40 years. I was there during the manufacturing transition from the F-16 to the F-35. Even though this is a simulation it is very heartening to see the Viper be able out fox the SU-57. The Viper performs well against many adversaries in your simulations. I would also say that the F-35 capabilities appear to somewhat restricted in the sims, and that is probably a good thing. Do we know how many PRC pilots are also using DCS?
Super good idea with the terrain masking. I have a friend who is a Super Hornet pilot and he says one of the biggest things is to always, always, always stay in a situation where you are strongest. Never chase the kill, let it come to you. Force the enemy to fight in your dojo.
This is genuinely an interesting fight, seeing a jet made in the 70s fight a 5th gen jet is crazy considering that the f-16 was made so well it has a chance against a su-57 when it is 50 years old
and not only that also techly the X-35 prototype airframe that became the F-35 is techaly a modernezed 5th gen version of the F-16 but just much more adveced. but it still has the F-16 airframe shape but much more stealthy and with a few extra payload capacity with its interanl bomb bay. also the air intakes on the F-35 had to be redesied to be difrrent then the F-16 air intakes to make more room for the inetal bombay by splitting and putting the air inakes on the front sides of the airframe. also the F-35 is also is highly modular for easy mass production and repairs and mantasce that can also in the factory prodction can very easly change the verant configration with just very little effort.
Great job against the Felon. I'd like to see more against the Mig-31 though. Maybe an F-22, F-35 or something with Meteors. I was surprised how much trouble the Mig-31 was in some of your other videos.
Mig-31 has better radar than basically all fighters besides the F-35. That, combined with its extreme speed and the R-37's extreme range make it incredibly dangerous
"I was surprised how much trouble the Mig-31 was in some of your other videos." That kind of stuff happened in viet nam. I used to work with a jet mechanic who had to work on those planes. He had one come in which flew so low he busted his napalm bomb on the tree tops and it had painted his plane with thd stuff. They let it dry then cleaned the plane off.
F22? F35? Any european 6th gen project? For whaaaaaaaaat if you have an f16b50! Lockheed Martin: who wants F16 to be used until 2100? USAF: mmmmmme please! 😂
Depends on how low observable the Felon would actually turn out to be. Probably the Viper has a decent chance to pick it up. At minimum, AWACS would be able to, giving the Viper situational awareness so it can go defensive when needed and push when possible. If both exhaust their fox 3s and go to a merge I would imagine the Felon to have a notable advantage in a modern fox 2 dogfight though.
