Dan was there before my time but is well remembered at the school. And has generously supported and influenced many of our students.

Awesome to hear snippets of your narration regarding Dan Winters on Episode 3 of the new National Geographic "Photographer" series. Brilliant job Alex!
@@ThePhotographicEye Oh I'm glad I got to tell you. It's at the very beginning of the episode about 2-3mins in. There's a "collage" of voice-overs and if I'm not mistaken they use two snippets of you describing him from your videos. The series is currently on Disney.
Great video, very apt observations. Dan Winters has been my favorite artist for 30+ years ever since I saw his work in Texas Monthly. He has a short film coming out which, unsurprisingly, looks like his photographic body of work in motion. A great guy too, from what i hear from mutual acquaintances.
Great video as always. The portraits of the two women in the military are both US Marines, the left in dress blues the right in greens. Not one to nitpick, just thought you would want to know.
"Scatti dall`America" means "shots(in the sense of pictures) from America". "(I) Scatti" (plural, noun?) comes from "scattare" (verb) which today does mean shooting a picture and probably has it´s origin in a previous and other meaning of scattare: a sudden (also mechanical) movement be it opening or closing, obviously related to the shutter. Thank you for your wonderful and inspirational posts.
The time is now :D When I was doing this, I was reminded that despite him shifting genres so much, he is 100% committed to the image at hand being the best it can be.
Dan Winter's "Road to Seeing" was the biggest of the influences on my photography life. It's a wonderfully written autobiography or memoir of a fascinating person, and it is full of insight into how to live a creative life. I never realised that I actually have a pretty valuable book on my shelf!
Thank you for teaching about a photographer I have not seen before, in fact I didn't know about great photographers before your channel. What strikes me is the way the still life artefacts are presented, almost like a victorian scientific specimen or evidence from an investigation - so unique!
I was lucky to this book as a present 3-4 years ago and have just got around to reading it and I must agree this is one of the best photo books produced . I find the text and background to the images as just as insightful and autobiographical . A visual and reading treat !
I can’t express enough just how valuable your channel is to me. Tho I’ve been familiar with many of the names of the photographers you’ve covered, I’ve never seen them presented in such a way that has captured my attention. Thank you again, Alex. Hopefully Winter’s book will be in print again soon. It’s on my list. Cheers!
Thanks for watching. Who are the ambassadors I covered? Dan and Vee? Would love to do more videos about some of the other amazing photographers you have using your backgrounds.
I've had a vague familiarity with Dan Winters work and I had not thought to compare him to Irving Penn but when I saw your title I thought. Yeah, yeah maybe so! Very good video! Thank you!
What I find interesting is the range of subjects that can make an interesting photograph when a talented photographer is behind the camera. Often these are subjects or ideas for taking the image that only a talented photographer would see and would take a photo of.
Thought I'd mention that Amazon carries Road to Seeing in the digital Kindle format. It's not ideal, but it is less expensive. Kindle Fires allow you to click on an image and increase its size for better viewing. Might be worth it if you own one.
Thanks for that. Generally I wouldn't really think that kindle would be a good format, but in this case, seeing as the gold is in the words, kindle might be worth it
Dan winters did an amazing series about the last space shuttle launches (there is a Ted x talk he did on photographing the shuttles) and also amazing images of bees, using microscopes There is nothing the guy can’t do. He’s the best photographer today
