    Correction: Around the 6:59 minute mark I give the total of PLZ-10s in service as 100. It should be 800, as shown on the slide.

    It's kind of annoying when another country has more vehicles in their side/niche "we might possibly use them one day" stockpile, than your country has of vehicles of any sort in their entire military's inventory.

    Every Chinese sources I can find on the Chinese mainstream media all say there at least 16 battalions of pcl-191 delivered to the PLA up until 2021. Each Chinese battalion has 12 of these making it 192 units, and that’s 3 years ago. It is an absolutely important piece of equipment for the Chinese as it have the ability to launch from mainland China and reach Taiwan(also technically New Delhi) and is definitely plays one of the most important role if China does one day invade Taiwan. It’s is considerably cheaper than all alternative solution of firepower projection across the strait. And there should be way more of these things now.
    ( my personal guess is there should be around 350-400 units that are either in service or is planned to deliver very soon, but I do not have the evidence to back it up.)

    I imagine the PLA have or in the process of manufacturing (to be held in storage) many hundreds of PHL-16/PCl-191 systems (Himars and Atacms analogs) utilizing Beidou precision guidance for the Taiwan scenario as a key strike platform.

    • @Strategy_Analysis
      @Strategy_Analysis  3 місяці тому +10

      I was surprised by the totals of these systems. I thought there would be more.

      @@Strategy_Analysis PCL-191 projectiles with CEP of a couple of meters some say render unnecesary the usage of expensive DF series SRBMs in the Taiwan scenario. There are deep penetrating as well as cluster munition rounds ideal for TW airbases and hardened aircraft shelters. Apparently the Indians have freaked out big time as the larger calbre extended range rockets can reach New Delhi from Tibet. Thanks to tech like PCL-191 (Beidou constellation) which other countries could not have been envisaged even in the recent past, the advantage for India having airbases close to the LAC is now a huge liability. The effect would be like Al-Asad base attack on steroids.

    I think the photo used for the PLZ-05 is an export version with a smaller more angular turret that has a different PLZ designation, PLZ-45, unsure if the PLA used the PLZ-45 themselves. PLZ-05 versions all seem to have the larger turret. I think the PLA still uses the amphibious Type 63A, a bulkier modernised version of the Type 63 that functions similar to the Soviet PT-76. Those systems are likely still active. Excellent and well detailed video!

    • @Strategy_Analysis
      @Strategy_Analysis  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the comment. The PLZ-45 was for export. The PLZ-05B has a larger turret with noticeable overhang over the rear of the vehicle. The image shown is the PLZ-05A.

    It’s a bit illogical that they would have such a few long range MRLS, we are talking about China…
    Nations in the surrounding area can match that, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India and obviously the main opponent USA.
    Do they have other types in the Rocket Force? Like the Weishi rockets series?

    • @Strategy_Analysis
      @Strategy_Analysis  3 місяці тому +4

      As I have replied to others, I was also surprised by the number of longer-ranged MLRS. These are the figures from the quoted source, which may or may not be correct. Not included in the briefing are the Rocket Force's MRBMs & IRBMs.

    Just a heads up, ztz 96 b is different 96a. This is a Russian tank game only/ prototype tank which never enters PLA service. It has new 1000 hp engine and new electrical stuffs on turret. The new engine could not be mounted to ztz 96 and 96a chassis.

    The "reconnaisance ZBD-04" is actually called the ZSD-89A, despite looking similar to the ZBD-04 it's actually based on the ZSD-89, no recon variants on the actual ZBD-04 were ever produced.

    • @Strategy_Analysis
      @Strategy_Analysis  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes it is a ZSD-89A, a heavily modified ZSD-89, which was developed concurrent with the ZBD-04.
      These were developed to deliver support vehicles with mobility equal to or close to the ZBD-04 IFVs, but to be cheaper.
      A lengthened hull with vertical hull sides and 6 road wheels, the overall hull design mirrors that of the ZBD-04, and is a significant departure from the ZSD-89.
      My understanding is that the ZSD-89A uses many of the components of the ZBD-04 to ease logistic support.
      In capability terms, they equate to the ZBD-04 and not the ZSD-89.

    I'm surprised that they don't have more long range MLRS types like the PHL_16/19 and the one before it .. they have to have at least 400 launchers of this type with more focusing on missiles exceeds 200 km ... it's weird that there is no mention of multiple loitering ammunition launchers systems .. from what I know they have some of those in service

    • @Strategy_Analysis

    • @Strategy_Analysis
      @Strategy_Analysis  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, it is a large number. It does include those in the Marines. The IISS Military Balance does separate out the ZTL-11 assault guns and PLL-09 SPGs, but gives this total for IFVs. This total however might include the reconnaissance vehicles. Note the PLA does have a large number of Medium Combined Arms Brigades, and other motorised formations, that use this vehicle.
