When she's Jinx, she looks serious, no-nonsense and terrifying. When she's Powder, she looks harmless, vulnerable and innocent. The animators communicate that with her eyes so neatly.
The animation team really took it to another level with so much subtle detain in Arcane! I never noticed that Jinx/powder change before and I've rewatched Arcane a few times now
@@BooelGaymes wrong, there are many animation studios that created great Movies but treat their workers like shit, just because the movie is absolutely beautiful doesn't mean the process was the same However in this case you're probably right, the animation studio behind arcane is a company with good reputation, but even then we don't know what happens inside the company There have been many cases of companies that turned out to be trash
I think of a scared little blue haired girl, scared and alone. Crying her eyes out, red from screaming for help. Her eyes puffy and glossed over in exhaustion. Sitting there motionless. Jinx just watches her climb, in almost disgust that this helpless little thing exists. That she's even trying to escape. But she's rooting for this little girl. Deep down. She wants her to heal.@@STRAWBERRYMUSHROOMFROGGO

@@Lucifersfursona this isn't DID. apologies if my phrasing made it seem so. What i meant by powder dying is she's given up on being that kid sister her and vi want. so she can still make the faces, but that version of her isn't real.
@punkyjewster2350 I don't know who told you alters can't die, but they can. They can die, or be repressed, merge with another alter, etc. But Jinx doesn't have did, although she does seem to have other disassociative behavior. Also it's very rare for switches to happen instantaneously.
Something amazing in that scene is that jinx was unsure she met vi. She asks her "are you real?" Which shows how far gone she is. But during the fight she gets a cut on her thigh. Then She turns to see that vi is still there and getting kidnapped. That cut is the only proof that their interaction was real, that vi was real and that's what makes jinx scream more in pain.
@@trimex7234Arcane as a name implies that the series revolve around magic of Runeterra, so it would be a missed opportunity to not make it sort of like an anthology. They already teased that the story can branch out to Noxus or Freljord/Targon
@@Ikefiction0as cool as that is, I hate that Arcane has brought the entire League of Legends lore to a grinding halt. At its core, a fantasy world is made of stories, layers and layers of perspectives and interactions building into something that stands on its own. Arcane, on no fault of its own, has caused an incredibly varied world to just pause. And as more champions keep being released the world is starting to disjoint.
The only other posture change that hit anywhere near as hard as this scene was Viktor's harbor run. I felt so much of his pain, fear, relief, excitement, guilt, and grief in just a few seconds, and I'm so glad they put so much soul into every frame of this show.
It’s something that I sort of subconsciously noticed? Like most of the time you could tell which side of her personality was dominant and that she was going back and forth during stressful moments, but I didn’t catch on that they had a special animation rig to capture those two sides in her facial expression.
Humans are so good at instinctually reading faces. Arcane's style may be slightly cartoony. But they pack enough detail and subtle facial movements in that you respond to them like real emoting faces.
What I love about this is that you can see how Jinx's expression, and maybe a sliver of her features, ressembles Silco. It shows how she ends up resembling him both psychically and even slighty physically.
This. This gave me shivers. Watched Arcane so many times and finaly i can understand why this scene is so good. Her switching rigs and (semi-)personality from Jinx to Powder and back is such great Storytelling.
Arcade has honestly one if the not the best animation of all time yet. Think about the stand off between echo and jinx on the bridge. I see echo's face go through anger, resignation and then playfulness and arrogance without event a word said. Just beautiful
This reminds me of the psychology of how you see and how the pupils expand when you see someone/something you love (Powder's eyes growing once she see's Vi)
Ella purnel also CARRIED in voice acting. arcane feels like one of the few shows where no category is bottlenecked by another, everything blends so well together and I love it
One thing I usually notice in animated characters that have two sides to them (like Jinx/Powder) is there eyes. The more sinister version of them (Jinx) has eyes with small pupils and irises, while the original version of them (Powder) has kinder, more wider/larger eyes
Another scene I noticed this in is when Jinx and Echo are fighting, Echo pins Jinx down and Jinx uses Powder against Echo, probably knowing that he had a crush on her when they were kids, or at least using the friendship they had against him.
I don't think she was using powder against Ekko. I think that was Powder coming through her shell and realizing what she's become, which is why she didn't even try to escape from the explosion. That was the last time we saw Powder. She realized the monster she had become and she didn't want to continue suffering.
It's not a conscious thing she does, it's just her face. Also, according to the writers, what was really going on there is that Jinx sees Ekko as the only person from her past who never left her, + she does not have a healthy fear of death. So, knowing she was beat and fine with dying, she wanted to take the only one who had never left (who she had some affection for for that reason) with her.
If they can keep this level of detail and care for the story up in Season 2, it's gonna be the best finale. Can't wait to see what stories they'll cover in Arcane S3 and beyond.
Honestly Jinx is the best example of schizophrenia/psychosis I have ever seen. I myself have experienced psychosis before and my friend is schizophrenic. We were able to relate to some things a litle too well. Which is incredible, because something like psychosis and schizophrenia are hard to describe and going through it is hard to imagine if you have never been through it yourself.
That is actually so cool. I never noticed how detailed they are in this show till people pointed it out to me. I was also told about Mel’s position throughout the show is usually at a higher vantage point until her mother comes into play in which Mel is shown at a lower vantage point. Such little details really make this show into something special.
I am so glad I only just watched this series. Instead of watching it in 2021 and having to wait 3 years, I just have to wait 1 year. I will rewatch this series over and over again.
So many subtle details that generally escape the wider audiences perception of media. But once you learn about it you know for a fact that the scene would never have the same impact it does without the detail, even if your memory was removed.
