To answer some other comments, I think the cantors sound unusually loud because they are mic'd closely, The audio people should compensate for that -- in my opinion. It is too much. Sadly, there are still some R.C. churches where if they didn't have a cantor nobody would be singing. I don't think the National Shrine is one. Read Tom Day's book, "Why Catholics Can't [Don't] Sing"
I can't believe they just stopped "Christ our Passover" by Richard Wayne Dirksen in the middle at the beginning of communion. Why would you only program half of a piece? Also, the cantor on the hymns seems really too loud
If you care to celebrate the time of Jesus rising from death its Saturday after dawn. Thats when Mary found the tomb open and Jesus, John and James bodies not there where they were laid after they were killed. For those who have the spirit of Truth will understand. Those having the holy spirit, like King Saul, David, Solomon, Moses, and Jesus the son of Nun, will stay in darkness.
What a terrible shame it is that the solo singer can be heard and above the brass, the choir, the organ AND the congregation!!! Please take this into consideration in future broadcasts. Catholics have a reputation of not being strong hymn singers. Well, is it any wonder when someone is before a microphone and blasted all over D. C.?
I was about to post a similar comment. Seems a lot of Catholic cathedrals do this. Not sure why. Very annoying. Why not let the organ and congregation be all you hear.
Thank God for the Blessed Easter mass every year. It invokes a renewal of peace every year for eternity.
I'm really impressed by the quality of the music.
Sing Out, Trumpets! Let the organ sound the joy of this joyous feast from 2013!
It would be helpful to have the names of the choral pieces; even the composer of the Gloria setting, etc... put on TV by the EWTN network.
Great to see susie at the mass yesterday I thought she wasn't going to the mass but then she did go
The Alleluia and incense at about 28 minutes is nice.
Happy easter and blessed sunday to all......
Happy Easter! God bless xoxo

That was Newt Gingrich's wife the first one in the choir????
deusimperator Yes, she sings in that choir. Front row -- fourth from the right. Newt is shown several times in the congregation.
Yes, he converted to Catholicism
God is a reassuring concept to measure our sorrows and our joys .............;)
Thank you for uploading this! Did you buy any chance record this year's Easter mass at the Basilica on April 5, 2015 from EWTN?
The Alleluia sounds amazing! What Mass Setting is it from?
Way better than Palm Sunday.

Great is our GOD .
Cardinal wuerl is having a nice homily
+nmfd72 - The recessional hymn is "The Day of Resurrection."
I think final song is I sing the mighty powers of god
Same tune (ellacombe), different words (The Day of Resurrection!)
Is This A Catholic Churrh?
yes
Yes, it's Catholic, but it's more than a church, it's a Roman Catholic Basilica.
Susan kavinski my girlfriend was there and she is now living with me
i believe it's this mass:
Gloria: Missa Sexti Toni Giovanni Croce
it really does seem that could put together a better choral piece than that.

Must you people complain about everything I mean really that's enough of that
Yeah, it sounds a lot better in person. Trust me, the recording studio here does no justice to how it sounds in person.

Only in a Catholic church will you hear a cantor bellowing above everyone on a microphone.
For the love of God, let the people sing!!!!
Again, an "RC/MC" during the hymns because the congregation doesn't sing!
Perhaps it's time that congregations sing! Watch an Anglican Cathedral and you'll see the congregation sing, no need for someone on a mic.
all the cantors seem to have the same sounding voices and are so loud. They really are a distraction.
