    Guns & Fitness should go hand in hand. There are a lot of people with a SHTF mindset that couldn’t run a mile with their gear on. This kind of content is desperately needed.

    I’m introverted, don’t like big box gyms, we have a garage gym. The environment does get old after a while, so I agree with you about changing the environment to keep it interesting. Good vid 👍🏻

    In the long run, consistency is more important than intensity. Every workout isn't going to be fun and you are going to have off days. What's important is that you do it anyway.

    • @IronInfidel

      I completely agree. The days you are just going through the motions, I consider mental workouts. Forcing yourself to do it even when you don't want to.

    Lately I’ve been struggling with some mental health stuff, which also contributed to my girlfriend of 5 years leaving me after living together and being a super happy couple. Your videos have inspired me to get back out there and try and not only lose weight but also to get back to how fit I used to be. Your videos (plus me doing a recent use of force class) definitely kicked my ass in gear. Thank you for this.

    Honestly the most needed content for this “group” what the point of focusing on weapons/tools when the greatest tool you have is your body? As someone who previously spent the vast majority of my life overweight I think fitness is the greatest tool you can have. Every aspect of shooting/fighting is better when you’re in better shape.

      I completely agree. Fitness not only changes your performance in most tasks, but it is life changing in general. I firmly believe my life would not be even close to the same, had I never worked out. I mean that with regards to family, work, goals I've accomplished etc. I can attribute a large portion of my success to fitness...It is that life changing.

    I’ve always told guys that plateau on their “weight loss” goals that they need to switch from thinking about losing fat, to gaining muscle.
    Very similar to what you said regarding changing from weight loss to strength training. I tell them that muscle takes more calories to keep, so putting on a little more muscle could help lean the body fat down.
    Is this super scientific…debatable… but as far as adjusting their definition of “success” it works great!
    People that have used BMI or the old tape tests get that you can have a person with a lot of muscle still classified as obese and overweight.. plus the older we get, rapid weight loss without muscle mass to take up the extra real estate leads to a lot more sagging skin and just self-image issues for some!

    I am a 61-year-old exercise physiologist and have been exercising consistently since I wrestled in middle school and I couldn't agree with you more. Consistency is everything. 30 plus years ago I learned a concept from a pretty noted strength and conditioning coach about what he called the cumulative effect of training. Training stacks upon itself from a day-to-day, week to week, month to month and year to year. This can only be achieved through consistency of effort and that will never happen through self-motivation. You just need to show up and get it done.
    As I've gotten older I'm pretty flexible in my approach in that let's say in a given week I know I want to mountain bike, do speed and agility drills and a strength circuit. I don't really care what day I get those done. If I was scheduled to do the strength circuit and don't feel like doing it but I'm feeling like I want to mountain bike, I just mountain bike that day. I think structured exercise has this place but I think depending on your ultimate goals and especially as you get older, having unstructured exercise and movement on a daily basis is what is essential.

    • @IronInfidel
      @IronInfidel  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks for the tips Vance. I definitely think you make a great case for a more unstructured approach for the longevity of a persons fitness journey. I appreciate the feedback.

    I’m 46 and I started jogging/running 4.5-6 miles a day wearing a 25 pound weight vest last year in January. I only missed two days the entire year until middle of August when I got Covid. I was pretty pissed off because I’m the type that never gets sick and I was down and out for about four weeks. Ended up getting long-term and pneumonia and now still can’t do what I was doing before I got sick. I’m now walking 4-5 miles a day wearing the vest and feel like I did before after jogging/running before. When it comes to weight training I feel like I’ve taken two or three steps backward. I’d have to say I’ve been struggling mentally and physically and this video was exactly what I needed! Thank you for the motivation to keep going and not giving up.

    This video is 100 percent accurate. I was gaining strength really fast. I went from 35lb Dumbbell bench to 75lb Dumbbell bench in maybe 6 months and every time i progressed it was awesome but it slowed down and stopped. Stress really had a factor in it as well and then it declined to where i was struggling really bad just to get 50lbs up. I had to change my way of thinking and working out. I started doing push up challenges where i would do 25 to 30 pushups every 5 minutes for an hour...it was fun and it sucks. My wife was struggling to lose weight but she went from 165 to 115. Anytime it slowed down we had to change it up because your body will learn what you are doing and so you have to keep it guessing.
    Btw i bought your workout band set for work and these things are awesome and my guys love them too. Thanksgiving we hung out in our main area doing push up challenges and using the bands for back and biceps. Great quality. Thank you again

    I'm just restarting getting into fitness. I did years of "forced fitness" in some capacity in the military and something similar in the academy for LE.
    I'm not overweight or particularly weak but I have a hard time progressing or even working out consistently. I feel comfortable in group PT environments and hate going to gyms, largely because I don't know how to workout in a gym really.
    Right now I'm doing bodyweight exercises at home and am looking at floundering my way through some gym visits with a buddy to see if I can get anything resembling a routine going.

    This is a brilliant video and as someone who has been workout out for 15 years I’ve experienced so much of this. He is spot on with all of these strategies. Convince yourself it’ll be ok to step away from the bar and do some circuits for a bit or run more or do strength training if you’re a runner and you will see so many more wins. Almost the same concept of playing multiple sports….you’re struggling in one, go practice another and watch those new skills translate to your original and you’ll feel amazing.

    Sometimes success is a time, a distance, a weight, or a rep count. Focus on one at a time. When I started running and rucking to enlist, that’s where my focus went. My powerlifting got pushed to the back burner, as I just tried to maintain a certain amount of weight. Now that I’ve hit my running and rucking goals, I’m maintaining those while I work on increasing my volume in my body weight exercise. Fantastic video, broski! 34 and in the best shape I’ve ever been in.

    Always been into shooting since the military, always been into fitness before then, it was only after your channel that I put the two together. Do I look like a tactical jackass out in the Desert shooting into dirt? Yes, do I care? A bit yes, but it kicks my ass and makes me a better shooter. Thanks man.

    I feel like you’re spying on me this week as I skipped workouts this week lol. I actually struggle with keeping my mindset while working out. I have the opportunity to do a quick 25-30 min workout during the day at work. Most days it’s easy to go in and get it done because it’s quick and I don’t break that much of a sweat doing it, but then I don’t see much gains either. I really want to expand the few weights I have at home and do a better workout but find myself very unmotivated after I get home after working 9-10hrs. Working out is something I find I do better when I’m not alone as it gives me a reason to push through it and not just come up with a stupid excuse to skip for the day.

    Introverted, bad case of (diagnosed) OCD and caretaker for multiple disabled people so gym time is non existent for me, but I find rucks relaxing and get out on 5-7 miles with 30-60lbs as often as I can.
    Even though I'm not a gym goer I completely get the scenery change though. I like to find different routes since where I live is technically a desert and there's not much change in scenery outside of doing that. Bottom line is doing something (even just body weight stuff like air squats, push ups, jumping jacks, lunges, burpees, planks etc) > doing nothing.
    To combine a few phrases that a few other youtubers have popularized "Nobody cares, work harder. Do the best you can with what you got with where you're at because stronger people are harder to kill and generally more useful." And thats not just physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well.

    I’ve always found having a goal in mind keeps me consistent. When I first started my goal was to look as good as I could for my wedding. But then after my wedding I found I kind of “fell off the wagon”. Then I set a goal of lifting 1,000lbs total for squat, bench, and deadlift. I hit that a couple weeks ago and now I’m finding myself unmotivated again. Need to set my new goal soon.

    Alex, what's up my brotha? Awesome video. Same as you I've been heavy into fitness most my life. I'm 42 now and I can honestly say it's been a bit tougher the past couple years but consistency is key. Doing something everyday even if it's not a typical gym day. Working out outside is a nice change as well as doing workouts first thing in the morning. Start the day right makes it easier to finish the day right. My 2 cents.

    • @IronInfidel
      @IronInfidel  Рік тому +1

      The best advice I can give you is listen to your body. If you have an ache (not general muscle soreness), don't push it. Everyone's capabilities are different and evolve over time (whether positively with progression, or negatively due to age).
      I'm only 35 and I wish I had been smarter in my 20's / early 30's. As a result, my knees are a constant issue.
      Work hard, push yourself...but listen to your body. Esp if you are older.
