Painting with a Palette Knife - Beautiful Abstract Painting on Textured Canvas

- I thought I'd have another go at this textured art technique but this time I wanted to use up and old canvas that I didn't like. So I covered it with Modelling paste and used horizontal and vertical strokes. Then defined a few lines as well, keeping it in portrait style. Once that dried I worked some colours into the canvas to cover it up and give me a sense of where I was headed. Then I loaded up my palette knife and laid down some deliberate strokes and continued until I was happy! It's a different piece and I quite like it. But there are some things I prefer with the first one. I'm loving the texture though!

Definitely just have a go! That's basically what I did. I find if I have something too specific in mind, it doesn't go well 😆

They look like stalagmites that you can find in caves, even submerged. It is a subject that I am passionate about. It also looks like there's a small flag indicating where to find the Castle. I love the color palette you've chosen. But I like it even more, the texture you give to the painting. Without it, the painting would lose a lot of beauty and I like it even more, that you put the texture and, in a way, define how the painting is going to look. Impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Caroline 😊 It was just neat, nothing added. 😉 Could add some gel medium perhaps. I did a wave recently that cracked badly, so I added textured colours over the top. I didn't make the video of that one. I guess I could put it up. 🤔

Hi Fiona, I’ve come across Alice Barile on UA-cam? She does some fab textured paintings, using parchment paper, aluminium foil, modelling paste etc. 😃

@@fionascreativecanvas I did a scrunched glued parchment paper on a whole painted:damaged canvas yesterday, and used scrunched tin foil on half a painted canvas, which I then painted over: both materials contribute to great tree scenes! It was such fun, 😃
@carolinewaterstone2624 I had a go with the tissue paper today, made some kind of mountains possibly. Am a bit worried about air bubbles. Will check it tomorrow once it's properly dried 😉 the foil sounds like it would be good fun. I'll have to try that.
