1. Cell phone services (including data plans) in Russia ~$5/month, 2. Electricity+Heating+Water ~ $20-50/month, 3. Healthcare ~free or 10-20 cheaper than in the U.S., depending on whether one chooses private or state provider. No waiting, walk-ins are usual. 4. @@fredfred2363 What you said is false. The sanctions target the Russian state, certain individuals, as well as a host of consumer goods. Maybe you don't remember, but when the sanctions were put in place, there was an uproar about all the companies that were pulling out of Russia. These companies were patronized by everyday Russian citizens. So, yes, everyday Russian people were affected. They have made a great recovery despite this. The financial assets that were frozen by the West, some $300 billion dollars, could go a long way toward helping the Russian people. The stated purpose of the sanctions is to put pressure on the Russian state to capitulate to the desires of the NATO coalition, as well as make things so bad that the Russian people will rise up and overthrow the government (in theory). So your claim is false either way you look at it. How can international economic pressure directed toward the economy of an entire nation not affect the people. Please do more research and stop spreading misinformation.
the choice in the US is really limited, most supermarkets sell the same stuff, in Russia each supermarket has a range of brands which are often not sold anywhere else - so you have a choice. Also, if you proportionally compare salaries/prices, Russia is a better place nowadays.

I would like to point out a funny fact that no one in the West probably knows about, but in Russia you get your salary immediately after taxes are deducted - the employer is obliged to transfer this money to the tax service, the pension fund and the pension insurance fund on a monthly basis. And if they tell you in Russia that they receive 100,000 rubles, that's a net amount. And there are practically no property taxes - in our Urals, cars up to 100 horsepower are not subject to taxation, up to 250 horsepower is literally a few dollars a year. And for real estate - for a plot of land in the region of 1 dollar per year, with a back and an apartment 0.1% of the cadastral value. For 5,000,000 rubles, you can buy a good apartment anywhere in the country except Moscow and possibly St. Petersburg, and somewhere the cost of an apartment is less than 500,000 rubles. Moreover, we receive a property tax of 5,000 ($50) per year, and in the rest of the country it is much less. And according to today's exchange rate, the exchange rate has changed from 50 to 100 rubles Several times in the last 2-3 years. Therefore, prices in rubles hardly change here , and a foreigner may have a dissonance . my salary for 2 years went from $1,500 to $3,000 , and then back)

Keep in mind that the average salary in Russia is 500-600 US$/month, 1000 US$ is considered a good salary. Official minimum wage for working 40 hours a week is 150 US$/month. Given that things like electronics and cars are more expensive in Russia than in the US, mortgage on property is around 30%/year, not to mention the 35% inflation rate, the ruble buying power isn't that great to say the least.

7:52 in, yeah, most pre-packaged breads here in the States tend to be filled with preservatives and/or sugar to keep the texture-and-taste for longer periods of time, and this user's family tries to, at least in-conjunction with that, if not as a total replacement, buy bread, such as in the French baguette-style, fresh from the bakery, when possible. Cutting up "cylinders" from the baguette and then smearing butter on one side of them has long been a favorite past time of this user! In fact: French bread, such as from baguettes, is actually HEALTHY bread that helps people lose weight, as it comes with a special "French slimming-sugar" that helps people burn-off fat!

There are no sanctions against consumer products. The result of the sanctions can be seen eg. in inflation and interest rates. Russia's key interest rate is 21% and year-to-date inflation rate officially 9.5% at the moment (in reality can be even more). Having high inflation and high key interest rate at the same time means unhealthy economy. Problems will only increase in 2025.

Not checked all the comments but I would like to see what wines they sell, given that it is what I drink. Most Russian videos seem to concentrate on the aisles of vodka!
2:51 in, yeah, that's a relatively uniquely Russian thing to see, as here in the States, it's either, or some combination of, a large cart ("cart" not "trolley", here), a small cart, or a basket (in hand), but hardly ever at all just small carts WITH baskets in the carts, as it's a bit redundant, also, it's kind of an "open-secret" that, at least the bigger chain stores, they want customers to have bigger carts, to "feel the need" to fill the carts to the brim as a psychological way of increasing sales (when most customers don't need the large cart in the first place, but it could still be an option, especially if one wishes to shop at the largest supermarket in Russia, they probably could use a larger cart option alongside what they already have). If one is going to get a basket, such a person would just carry it in their hand, but there is the convenience of reducing the clutter and aisle size by having the smaller carts, with detachable baskets one can hold in an offhand, whilst piloting the cart with the other, and without the psychological trickery, so, it appears to work out well enough for them!
@@caculienka Also true! The portion-size(s) of meals and drinks here in the States has always been (even though it's not as big as it used to be and people are complaining about getting less-and-less for their buck) still a good.....one-third-to-two-thirds more than what most other "western" countries' people eat and drink, including Belarus/Russia! Was watching an AnfisaBELARUS video tour of her hometown and a meal she had at a mom-and-pop restaurant out there, and the portion-size was about a third-to-two-thirds of what an American meal would look like, at a third-to-a-sixth (depending on multiple factors) of the total cost by the end of it! That said, it has been said that Russians eat multiple courses in a meal, so, it's not always about the level of food, it's about the added exercise Russians get by walking around all the time as compared to Americans who, well, don't do that as much.
6:48 not always. Sometimes, weight are also present in check-out zone. Sometimes... Also, it's more convenient and transparent for both: customers and workers in the shop. Unfortunately, it's also an apportunity to scam. From both sides, but mostly from the customer. For example, you buying an exotic fruit, but you choose potatoes in the scales, so, it's a lot cheaper. And of course, in that type of hypermarkets, customer flow is crazy and cashier doesn't even notice that...
Please may we see a DIY toolshop (drills, screws, lighting, curtains, paint and garden tools) and a model shop? (Do Russians prefer model trains, r/c planes or just static models?). I am learning Russian and my teacher says my handwriting is not too bad. I live in Scotland, and wish you good luck in Russia.
In fact, even this store has a department with tools and paints, but not very large. There is a chain of former French stores Lemanapro (former Leroy Merlin), you can try to search for a video on UA-cam by name. Most prices for basic groceries are damn cheap in every country I know. And personally - as long I am not a single earner in a really huge family - I don’t care how much bread and potatoes cost. It differs for more sophisticated stuff, though.
I live in Canda so rate is 73 Rubles to a CAD$, the prices are way lower for food and cleaning, bath supplies, most of the Kichen and house stuff here is from China, huge retailer here is Canadain tire, virtually everything is Chinese. I am interested in clothes and shoes, my wife has brought me back shoes and clothes from Russia, a lot made in Turkey, but way cheaper and a much better quality, example a brand name golf polo shirt 2XL is up to $CAD95, Winter coats etc from Russia, winter shoes way cheaper. So average monthly income in Canada 2024, is (Stats Canada) CAD$73000 (Ruble 5343000.00), that will be taxed at 25%, sales tax ranges from 5% in Alberta to 13% in some provinces. So what is annual salary average in Russia, annual tax and sales taxes?? So that may be a good starting point to compare??
7:04 in, yeah, the whole security aspect is a little much, in-comparison to America, whereby one either, depending on the store-in-question, takes their hand-selected-and-bagged produce to the check-out counter and someone else rings it up, or to the self-check-out aisle, where it's just placed down, weighed, and one selects what type of produce or baked good it is, and then pays and leaves. If it's another person and it's a baked good, then just tell the cashier what type of good it is, say, a box of donuts, and how many donuts are in there. Not liking the whole "take-printed-ticket-to-the-cashier" add-on, as it seems like a counter-intuitive hassle. In the States, people don't get autistic over a measly grape-or-two eaten, either, a la the one early "Simpsons" episode on stealing. Produce shopping is pretty nonchalant, it's high-ticket, electronic, items that tend to come with any hassle, and that's on occasion, usually just involving the cashier doing some snipping and scanning.

For starters, there is no sanctions on food products. It is up to these companies if they want to continue doing business in Russia or not. As for the price of food in Russia, many people say how cheap it is compared to North America or in Europe. You have to factor in the wages, I have watched many, many videos made by ordinary Russian people who have stated that the average wage in Russia is $250 - $500 a month( higher only in Moscow and St. Petersburg) and pensions average $100 - $300 a month, people complain about the higher cost of food. Russians look healthier than Glaswegians, that's for sure
The daily-exercise of walking-about coupled with better parenting, whereby helicopter parents don't shield their children indoors all day, every day, leading them to an inordinately sedentary lifestyle, coupled with the lack of GMOs (banned in Russia) such as allegations of "human-sludge-fertilizer" a "FarmerKillGates" might raise crops with for McDonald's to sell. Question: If referring to those of Glasgow, Scotland....they're not called "Glasgowans"?
It‘s because when Russians reach a normal Westerner‘s adult age, Russians are already dead
Maybe if we didn't have a thieving English government it wouldn't be the case??? Bawsack!!

1. Cell phone services (including data plans) in Russia ~$5/month,
2. Electricity+Heating+Water ~ $20-50/month,
3. Healthcare ~free or 10-20 cheaper than in the U.S., depending on whether one chooses private or state provider. No waiting, walk-ins are usual.
4. Higher and professional education ~free for citizens.
Overall, American prices are overbloated due to the structure of economy, excessive regulations, taxation, monopolies or syndication.
PPP (parity of purchasing power aka affordability) in Russia is pretty much the same or better than in the U.S. and EU. That means that for the salaries Russians make they can afford more and a higher quality of life than an average Joe on his salary/income in the U.S./EU.

Actually very enlightening video. This looks like a typical supermarket in the U.S. A lot of good all those sanctions did! Have a Happy New Year!
Ironically, sanctions have made the Russian economy stronger.
The sanctions applied have been specifically targeted to affect gov, not the people.👍🏻🇬🇧
@@fredfred2363 What you said is false.

The Aviapark is so called because it was built on the territory of a closed airport, which, due to the growth of Moscow, ended up inside the city. So they had enough space to build a large mall.

Sanctions? What sanctions? Which sanctions? When sanctions ? Have a great day & greetings from North - Western Russia !

If one is going to get a basket, such a person would just carry it in their hand, but there is the convenience of reducing the clutter and aisle size by having the smaller carts, with detachable baskets one can hold in an offhand, whilst piloting the cart with the other, and without the psychological trickery, so, it appears to work out well enough for them!
there is still the possibility that they don't buy as much as we do 😀
@@caculienka Also true!

In fact, even this store has a department with tools and paints, but not very large. There is a chain of former French stores Lemanapro (former Leroy Merlin), you can try to search for a video on UA-cam by name. Russia produce prices are not cheaper than America by much if at all. The average income in the United States is five times that of Russia.
I would like to see a sports store
Even in Canadian dollars, things are cheaper in Russia. Even cheaper than Walmart, which might be the equivalent.

Not interested in the price of ladders and barbecues. The point is not just the availability of goods but more importantly affordability.
🐻👍

For starters, there is no sanctions on food products. It is up to these companies if they want to continue doing business in Russia or not. As for the price of food in Russia, many people say how cheap it is compared to North America or in Europe. You have to factor in the wages, I have watched many, many videos made by ordinary Russian people who have stated that the average wage in Russia is $250 - $500 a month( higher only in Moscow and St. Petersburg) and pensions average $100 - $300 a month, people complain about the higher cost of food. You are showing what a regular store in North America looks like.
some truth, but it depends what you do, its easy to find software development jobs paying just under what i get in UK, in russia, but without the high tax.
Do I want to see what the biggest supermarket in Russia looks like? Is that all you expats can do - show the world our supermarkets? How many videos are there on this subject already? One thousand? Russia is a country with fascinating history, great culture, beautiful architecture, wonderful art, literature, music, the motherland of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsly, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Mendeleev, Pavlova, Nureyev (to name just a few), and all you expats seem to care about are grocery stores and cafes - so you know where best to stuff your faces, I guess. Россия вперед!
A bit harsh Svetlana but essentially you make a very good point. The "problem" may well be however, that western populations are, in general quite lowbrow these days and vloggers need to appeal to majority opinion which has a rather more down-to-earth, everyday perspective and field of interests.
У кого что болит, тот про то и говорит...🤦🏼♂️😁
Totally agree with Svetlana. What will they film once the sanctions are gone ? Besides the sanctions were never about the food. If you dont believe me google it! Happy new year!🎉

У нас в Новосибирске такие же магазины ашан, все в один в один, хотя есть сетевые гипермаркеты которые мне больше нравятся.

12:25 For those who came to Russia and do not have a Russian bank card on ozon you can pay with Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, 24/7 delivery within an hour, prolucts, electronics and anything else you want.
I'm surprised to hear this. I thought no western credit card would work in Russia.
@@TheRussianAngle ozon online payment card works, go to the site and look there it even says about it, I've been paying with a visa and a master card.
Interesting. Thanks for letting me know, I've been topping up through crypto from UK and buying stuff
