It is also one of the pioneering zoo in captive breeding of endangered animals. The population of tiger is considerably affected due to hunting, poaching and encroachment of their forest habitat. As per the tiger census of 2014, India has only 2226 tigers. Tiger, a majestic, versatile, legendary and dynamic animal, known for its solitary, territorial behaviour and powerful hunting skills.
Arignar Anna Zoological Park houses 28 Tigers (which includes Royal Bengal tigers, white variants and rare Psuedo- melanisitic variants). The zoo also provides round the clock free live streaming of tigers (24x7) in 3 tiger enclosures through the zoo website (www.aazp.in).
Arignar anna zoological park celebrates the International tiger day of 2019 themed "Their survival is in our hands". The Zoo takes the pride in introducing the tigers with their names through the UA-cam channel.
