Nice review: One correction - It's a 1080i, not 1080p. These ran $1500 new. . . it's a nice camcorder. The SR11 ran about $1000 US back in 2009. The ProDuo cards are expensive compared to SD cards for newer camcorders. I have th SR11 and SR12. I picked up one new and one used. The audio is 5:1 surround nice for a lot of recording. The camcorder will shut down in extremely loud environments, like in front of a subwoofer stack at a concert with a loud band. The HD will vibrate with super loud sounds, and shut down recording to protect the drive. You have to record very loud stuff with the memory stick instead of HD, of course with super loud sounds the built in mic is pretty useless as is most external mics for super loud bands. Pictures are nice, but they are not 10.2 megapixel progressive, so a progressive 10.2 will be better for high speed action shots.
I film skateboarding, so i dont use manual focus. I wanted to set it as exposure, because i adjust it for every clip. I figured it out though, all you do is hold down the button on the focus ringand a little window will pop up on the lcd screen.then you turn the focus ring to select what you want it to be.
Great review, thanks. Just wondering - I have been looking everywhere. I sometimes record loud concerts and need to adjust the audio input to the minimum sensitivity as the audio can distort badly. I am pretty sure that this is possible. I can't find it anywhere in the menu. Can you help me? Many thanks!
You said in your review that you connected your camera through the usb port to your Mac. I can't do that. When I insert the cable appears the word "Preparing...", but it stays forever without seeing the icon in the computer. Any suggestions?
can you post a video of manually making that 3rd key (focus) button hooked up to your night shot. I want to do that but idk how. I want my night shot hooked up to that 3rd key you talked bout at 3min and 10 seconds. That multifuction key

Ohh no the CX series are not even close to the HDR-SR 11 and 12 series, i had a CX190 before.. and it cost about 350 bucks new... and it need ALOT of light to get great video inside and such things.. this HDR-SR12 was 1500 Bucks when i bought it 4 years ago.. the CX have kinda crappy audio as well.. its ok for outside recording in daylight... your camcorder is a newer version of my other camcorder...Handycam DCR-SX30...
This AVCHD files are not easy to work with... you will need something to kompress the video file with before trying to editing the footage or anything like that. Best thing you can do is to get rid of this camcorder and get something else that is making MP4 files instead of AVCHD files.
Absolutely. Stull use mine. Goes toe to toe with my a6000. Only thing I have to do is hand break if I'm doing editing to remove the lines from interlacing since its 1080 I not p but no big deal. People don't know how to set up camera for optimal performance like white balance or pulling your own focus (which it will). If all else fails there is a button on inside cover that says easy and when pushed the camera handles everything very well. Ton more features he didn't come close to covering. Don't get me started on it's super slow motion capabilities.

Its on the settings.. find storage and there u switch between HDD and the Duo memory card..
