For Ewes that have just lambed and been seperated into a smaller area or jug - 1 c. molasses, 1 gallon water, 1 tsp salt
Heat ingredients together and pour over approx 2 to 3 bales of hay or add as a supplement to their water as molasses has a lower freeze point than water and will add the calcium, potassium, iron, and salt to make it like a "sheep gatorade" or a quick sports drink to help replenish and ensure they have the vitamins and minerals to produce milk for the lambs and recover after lambing. In my area we give selenium as well.
When poured over hay it encourages hay consumption while adding the vitamins/minerals. When added to water it encourages drinking and my Ewes eat and drink like crazy and lambing anyway.
Option #2 - Grab a metal measuring cup for 1 cup and scoop out one cup of molasses and heat to be more liquid - pour over hay flakes - 1 bale - you will be giving your ewe who just lambed and viola'. It's a great pick me up after LAMBING and for any SICK sheep.

Yes, we pour about 20 litres of molasses onto a round bale, and the sheep lick it right up. We put some, but only about a 1/4 cup in the water after lambing so that they don’t get the runs.

Looking good, now to find out how long two pails last.

I ended up just putting one pail in. I didn’t realize just how heavy that stuff is.

So is that molasses cut with water or does it have other ingredients?

I don’t believe it’s cut with water because it doesn’t freeze. It has added protein and mineral specific to the animals that you are feeding. We can get one for sheep, and one for cattle, as well as a straight molasses.
