  • Gringos React to the Riviera Nayarit! Welcome to San Pancho, Nayarit also known more formally as San Fransciso, Nayarit. San Pancho is a quite little beach town about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. If you are looking to get away from the crowds, do a little surfing, or just see something off the beaten path, San Pancho is the place to go!
    How to get there:
You can take an Uber, cab, or bus to San Pancho. If you take Uber or cab just know that neither are very available in the town of San Pancho to get back to Puerto Vallarta. Your best option is to take the Pacifico Bus line from the Puerto Vallarta bus terminal to San Pancho. Each one-way ticket costs 50 pesos. For your return trip back to Puerto Vallarta you just need to stand out by the highway next to a large fruit and smoothie stand/restaurant. Busses come by every 10-20 minutes.
    Where did we eat?
Hotel Cielo Rojo. I believe the official name of the restaurant is Bistro Organico- but if you just find the Hotel the restaurant is in the back. It's delicious!

Thanks for this video and excellent advice. A couple random points. The lunch looked great and looks like a healthy place to eat, kind of unexpected for an "aldea pequeña". Also noticed the bikes weren't locked up, cannot do that where I live- even with my 30 year old mountain bike.

Thanks for the update! My wife and I are planning a trip to the area to see if we want to move there. We were very turned off by the amount of air pollution in San Miguel de Allende and we would rather live near the beach anyway. Did you find Sayulita to have a lot of air pollution from all of the traffic? I assume San Pancho is better? A lot of people don’t realize that Mexico does not have any where near the same level of emissions controls as we have here in California or the rest of the United States so, it is like stepping back into the 70s.

    • @charlesbartlett2569
      @charlesbartlett2569 3 роки тому +2

I live in Sayulita. Not a lot of air pollution with the strong sea breeze every day. It’s heaven in the winter, but brutally hot in the summer. Splitting time between the mountains and beach is the way to go.

This is a good video but as you said you need to spend more time there. For tourists, restaurants, shops, activities and adventures what you showed are probably enough. But the town has a strong community culture where the expats and locals work together. Entreamigos (cultural and educational center for children) and Cirque de Los Ninos (children's circus school) are the two best examples. There also is a school for young filmmakers.
When you walk North on the beach from the town you will get to an area called Costa Azul that has some very lavish homes from the beach up into the hills. There are rock outcroppings at this end of the beach that are fun to climb. Continuing down the road Las Palmas it becomes Las Clavelinas through the jungle with homes and compounds hidden away. You can access deserted beaches if you know where to look.

To be fair to the Kennons, I live in San Pancho part time and have plans to retire there.
Some of the things that make a town a good place to live in are not going to be on the radar or important to people who just want a brief vacation. E.g. turtle rescue program that attracts worldwide volunteers. You can research more deeply about the town if you are looking for a longer stay in this special place.

Sadly, Sayulita has a water treatment problem -- that is, it's grown too fast and can't keep up with the sewage. Vacationers should plan to get sick. Not food-borne bacteria sick, but flu-like Norovirus sick, which puts you down for days. It got all four of us in February 2019 -- in turn, some of us twice. We had no issues in September 2015.
It's really too bad because Sayulita's a cool spot. Maybe quiet San Pancho up the road -- or the beach, at low tide -- is a better idea. The folks who like it like it a lot.

Puerto Vallarta is nice and all but I just notice it's more for saying "no gracias" more than a 1,000x to beach vendors, boat sells, beggers, and time shares. New game objective for my girl and I, buy a tally count and click it every time you say "no gracias" lol but i rather go to these small beaches, Punta de mita is also nice and very few people!

Come to San Pancho, instead of Sayulita? Why? Sayulita has been overrun. The beach is like a big city beach almost. It is not a quiet, peaceful place anymore. But we still have a relatively peaceful town in San Pancho. So stop telling the world to come here. Next you will want to destroy Lo de Marcos.

It’s great for business, but has lost much of its tranquillity. San Pancho has changed as well. It’s not as sleepy as it use to be. Huge difference in activity between high and low season.

San Pancho is an amazing little laid back town. So many great little restaurants, coffee shops and an ice cream place!! I'm looking forward to exploring it again this January

Sayulita is overrated. De lo Marco is quieter and has a nicer playa.
