A quick note to let you know I made myself a small, little flower bouquet this morning from my garden just like the ones you make -- "cut & come" flowers. It's so cute! I just found your channel while on vacation at the beach...scrolling through my garden channels. Am still catching up. Even though I'm Zone 9B in Houston, TX. I'm learning a lot from your container gardening. Thank you!!
Your gardens are still so gorgeous. I've poured boiling water over soil to try to kill any bugs and their eggs that might be in it when I've wanted to reuse it indoors. Would that kill any powdery mildew in your soil if you're concerned about reusing your zinnia soil? If you bought those dahlias online, check the site to see what yellow dahlias they sell and see if you recognize it.
When you're refreshing your large containers with compost and perlite is it ok to leave strands of small roots that are left when pulling up the root ball? Whenever I pull up the root ball my soil always have many smaller roots that would take a long time to remove. Thanks!
It's so strange that you are getting blossom end rot in a pot-grown tomato that's consistently watered. I have now started to grow Early Girl because they aren't quite as big, but pretty prolific, and now I pick them at first blush to avoid cracking and animal chewing :-) This was my first year growing them in large grow-bags, and they were healthier plants than when I've grown them in the ground. I don't do any canning, so I only grow a couple of plants for sandwiches.
To help with blossom end rot, add calcium to your soil. A home remedy is to grind up Tums antacid tablets which is nothing but calcium. Mix the powder with water and dowse your tomato plants.
I grew big tomatoes in grow bags this year for the first time and I started seeing end blossom rot at the beginning so I bought Veggie Cure for end blossom rot and I didn’t see it again in three more harvests after that
Hi Bethany 👋. I just found your channel recently as I am very interested container gardening as my soil is not great. I am amending but don't want to wait for flowers. What type of gomphrena was that by your dahlias please? I love the color and it looked awesome with your dahlias!
Your patio gardens are beautiful! Powdery mildew came early this year. My Queeny Lime Orange Zinnias were hit the hardest with powdery mildew. My Oaklahoma Zinnias have no sign of powdery mildew. 🤞 That variety has been very resistant in my gardens.
Bethany if you remember the brand of your yellow mystery Dahlia you should be able to look at the online catalog for that company and you might find a picture with the name. Not foolproof -if they are an importer the mix up could have come from the grower in the Netherlands -worth a shot though.

I love it, thank you so much!!! How is the heat down there by you?
@@ChicagoGardener We are HOT and HUMID but it's almost over. I'm worrying about your rooftops tonight with the bad weather coming your way. Stay safe!
Been pretty fortunate that my zinnias are thriving and no signs of powdery mildew. Unfortunately my cucumbers succumbed to it. Zone 6 Ohio
I’m so jealous!!! Powdery mildew got my zinnias and cucumber 😩

Thanks a good idea! I can try that after I pull the plants in the beds.

Perfect, I’ll have to try that next year!
We have a heat advisory here in PA. Trying to do 5 minutes or so at a time outside!
I definitely should have just stayed inside, it was so hot!

If it was the pink gomphrena, it’s QIS Rose!
I think you missed my question about what kind of gomphrena do you have by the dahlias?
Oops, I just saw your answer, thank you!!!!
Love to visit all places where Farming gardening growing Countryside places .great 🎩 .
Yes !!! This summer has been brutal !!! 🥵 Never the less your garden spaces are gorgeous and no critters on roof tops 😜

I need to add Oklahoma back to my garden!

That is an excellent suggestion and I do not remember 🤣 although it might be in the video where I planted them. I’ll have to go look!
I enjoy your garden updates. Perhaps the dahlia is Penhill Yellow Queen.
I think you might be right! It’s the closest I’ve seen and that could have more easily made its way into a Penhill watermelon bag
I feel you on the heat. Still a couple months left here in SoCal but it is getting a bit cooler!
In so ready for fall 🥵
But it is so much fun, fixing things :)
It is!!
