    Can we give extra credit to the partner in this demonstration. They both radiate the presence of seasoned veterans but still a move wrong could vary from embarrassment on camera to a hospital visit. Beautiful work.

      Exactly, a demonstration! Think about much self-restraint it takes for these dudes to not use their skills at maximum capacity when that's what they train for every day, the amount of respect and trust that the demonstrators have for each other to tone down the notches all so we can have a display of the awesomeness of close-quarters combat. A demonstration can be more fulfilling to the eye than an actual fight. To actually see two masters simulate their skill and technique instead of an actual rivalry of skill and technique used to be very rare.

    • @FastForwardPlans
      @FastForwardPlans 3 роки тому +6

      As they are mostly used in a similar way, top of the weapon means more control of the chain, but it can get in the way of swinging the weapon after you have them bound and can slow down blocking, while bottom you risk tangling the chain a bit but have more freedom to use the weapon part to attack or block.

      I would like to know if there is a reason behind the location of the chain attachment point to the kama. In this video it is attached to the top of the kama near the blade. Seems like it would be prone to tangle there.

    • @kingchickenwing4887
      @kingchickenwing4887 7 років тому +2

      Oh, I get what you mean. Yeah, I understand what you mean. It seems to make sense for the blade to be on the bottom, not the top, but I assume that they must have a reason for its placement.

    • @ZeroKage69
      @ZeroKage69 7 років тому +21

      This is just my guess but by having it on the opposing end gives the user more leverage and control over the chain. Having it attached at the bottom would also cause the blade of the sickle to swing around towards the user should the chain be pulled by the enemy, whereas having it at the opposing end will only cause the blade to be pulled away from the user should the chain be grabbed by the enemy.

    Nice moves. Tho, very shame that today it is hard for untrained people to see what it does mean but people who does understand martial arts and weapon arts can probably at least see some things in there. Kusarigama needed at lot of practice and is probably one of the best killing weapon in it's time if you want to kill/injure opponents. It was not to do a fatal blow in one hit tho, but very strong anyway. If surprised hit by the weight and caught, you're gone. Cause if the guy was a master, he would have time to hit you two-three times before you draw any sword and after the hits, i wonder if you can even move or defend anymore. Sickle is pretty damn sick to destroy an internal organ so... You'll that in few hits, bleeding gets you to die. Only very fast on their feet opponents can probably dodge it (cuz you can't really parry it). Being in very heavy armor entangles you... and it's over for u XD.
    I'm surprised it doesn't get more hype this days. Probably because training with it is very hard and harder than nowadays kenjutsu.

      You are incorrect. The "Kama" in Masaki-ryu Fukuhara-Ha Kusarigamajutsu is in this shape. Although this is a training weapon, the actual combat Kama is sharp on all 3 sides.

      The "blade" portion of the Kama or sickle for Masaki-ryu Fukuhara-ha Kusarigamajutsu (the Tradition demonstrated here) is in this shape. The "blade" is sharp on all three sides.

      The Kama or "Blade" in this tradition is sharp on all three sides allowing the weapon the be used in various strikes.

      It's not THAT type of chain, it's more like the type of chain you would find on a necklace, light, but durable and in this case, effective

      using this as my main weapon for my shadow monk tortle. Basically just combining sickle and whip stats into one weapon, but changing the slashing damage from the whip to bludgeoning due to the weighted chain aspect.

    if this were an actual fight then the guy with a katana would be in a disadvantage unless he got closer

  • @MadNumForce
    @MadNumForce 4 роки тому

    I'm not convinced. The daisho guy always let the advantage to the kusarigama guy. If you see the guy twirling his weight and chain and keeping distance, just throw at him the wakasashi and charge him immediately behind the throw so he doesn't have time to recover, preferably with a thrust for reach advantage and difficulty of parrying.
