  • ❓Have you ever seen somebody walk like this?
💡This is called a Trendelenburg gait.
🤓 When you walk, you stand on 1 leg for a period of time right? In this moment, you need activation of your gluteus medius (and minimus) muscle to keep your pelvis level.
☝️If you don’t have the appropriate strength or control, 2 things happen.
✅Either your hip drops on the opposite side leg that you’re standing (uncompensated trendelenburg) on OR you lean your trunk towards the leg that’s on the ground to compensate (compensated trendelenburg or waddling gait) and minimize the amount of work that the gluteus medius muscle has to do.
📖Note: I’m going slow on purpose to exaggerate what’s actually going on during this walk.
🗣In addition, this gait pattern can be as a result of neuromuscular disease such as muscular dystrophy or injuries affecting peripheral nerves as well.
