  • Michael Toms' interview of Jean Klein is a profound and meditative exchange that reveals the real nature of being: silence, space and listening.
Michael Toms' thoughtful questions encourage Dr. Klein to go deeper into the fundamental issues that confront anyone searching for the truth: the real meaning of freedom, the thinking process, silence versus the quiet mind, welcoming the essence of our being, the relationship between teacher and student, death and how to assist someone who is dying.

Jean Klein, master of Advaita Vedanta in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krishna Menon and author of many books on non-dualism, spent several years in India going deeply into the subjects of Advaita and Yoga. In 1955 the truth of non-dualism became a living reality. From 1960 he taught in Europe and later in the United states.

Reason is a gift we all have. And we all can reason that we are to some extent an individual with senses like hearing, seeing, feeling, smelling, and tasting. That we can think, reason, and we receive thoughts that arise and pass away constantly. That we have a bodily, mental, and social needs. All of these things make up who you are in human terms. But when it comes to being conscious (aware of your nature), I think the only justice it does, is that it allows you to see the primacy of both...

First time I've heard him speak. Hard to believe he would lose his composure at the mere mention of Krishnamurti.

Love love love this. What a rare kind of human, in whom the Origin and Substratum is awake to Itself.

Jean's inquiry in this video is filled with a perfume of enjoyment - he is really looking and enjoying the taste of what he's saying. And the words, he strikes so deeply so quickly with his truth, touching for the most pure expression. Not caught or lost in semantics about west/east or defining consciousness, etc. I wish I could have spent time with him while he was alive. His fullness inspires me deeply.

Michael Tom's used to have a really great radio program called "New Dimensions" (I think?) that I listened to each week "religiously." He had the greatest teachers-gurus of that generation as guests (like Jean Klein for one) and I hope those interviews are safely archived.
    🙏 ♥️

I attended a satsang of his in the early 80's in California. The presence of his I feel watching this video is the same I felt back then. He's still here and now as we all are.

Jean Klein may have been an inspiration to many and for a fraction like Francis Lucille etcetera, he may have pushed them into the great void itself because they were qualified and ready to lose themselves in the one identity we all share, but he definitely wasn’t a teacher with a workable methodology like Vedanta has. Vedanta has a whole program so that no matter where you are you can begin to progress properly because a real Mahatma speaks to the Self in us re-minding it:- “you are actually whole and complete here and now”. Most teachers are without realising it dualists because they’re making the spiritually fatal mistake of addressing the doer/feeler/thinker/perceiver instead of addressing the only Self there is, bypassing duality altogether. It shows that the teacher only has indirect knowledge or is unskilled. A true jnani only sees jnanum everywhere so he would know he or she was addressing the Self. So why speak to the ego?

"Our absence is presence." This can only be understood by someone who already knows. So then, what's the point of saying it?

If all i am allowed to say is what you already know and understand , what's the point in talking ?

Consciousness is all that there is. Subject and objects dualities are a big lie that consciousness tells itself. You are pure consciousness living the lies that you are telling yourself. You will have to live out the whole lies that you want to tell yourself before you wake up to your true self. Yes, you are Consciousness primarily and through the whole lies that you are telling yourself.
How do you live the lies that you are telling yourself ? By assuming a mind posture and misinterpreting and misperceiving and mis-experiencing yourself as subject and objects dualities. Mind posture is your tool to misinterpret and misperceive and mis-experience yourself. Minus the mind posture you are all by yourself in your pure and infinite awareness Self.

... both consciousness and reason, and makes you aware that you are more than a mental view or image of your self. Being conscious gathers information and being rational puts it all together into meaning. Once everything is put together, you learn to understand and value what is needed. You learn that you cant cater to what is needed by being on a mental level; you have to be present in the now and know that you are more the one being aware than you are the one that is identified as this self.
