I've never seen the video for this song, but I've always had the idea of recording me and my friends doing typical Teenagers shit on an old camera and splicing them together along with some local bands playing creating a montage of my teens and here's that exact idea. Crazy dude.
While I only started listening to Sonic Youth this year, this video is pretty much how I imagined my teenage years would be like as a kid. Now I'm 18 years old, all my friends are from different neighborhoods, we never see each other outside school(in fact now we haven't seen each other for more than a year and you know why) and I spent my teenage years inside my house doing nothing but browsing the internet all day. The song itself makes me nostalgic of something I never experienced
You described what I have failed to say. Bless you man.
I think you should all just go for it and live and dress however you want you’ll find like minded ppl - technology has changed everything but you still can live however you want 😎 you’re young do what you want!
My exact thoughts too, I’m 18 and I feel like I have experienced something that I never did. But it feels nice you know?
The early 90's were the perfected height of teenage life. Lived it and loved it.
I was a teen in the early 80s and the amount of freedom we had compared to kids since then was positively insane. I mostly didn't use it to all that much that was notable, but I saw a lot of great music. I remember riding my bike downtown at the age of 15 to see the Crucifucks play on the steps of the Wisconsin state capitol for Rock Against Reagan. Steve Shelley (future Sonic Youth) was on drums, and they were so brilliantly antisocial. It was like being at my own Woodstock, but I only had to share it with a couple of hundred other people, most of whom were my friends.
This video in this quality has really made me very happy! Nothing quite like Sonic Youth and their sound. If their music was a feeling I think it would be a melancholic kind of nostalgia.
If this comment were a feeling I think it would be a moronic kind of misinterpretation
Daydream nation is on my favorite albums
I believe they had a larger influence on early eighties hazey experimental nob twiddling & distortion than they get credit for influencing so many artists past and present.
Greatest rock song ever written
The long intro in the beginning is literally my favorite part of the song…
right? it's so pretty
Love sonic youth
Me too ❤
Yeah, Brazil loves them too.
This is my favorite video of all time... I remember seeing it on 120 Minutes, no information about the band other than having seen “EVOL” advertised in some fanzine and seeing their name written on the jacket of one of the few punks in our school (this was 1988, freaks stood out like a sore thumb!) ... I was intrigued by this collage of images and sound, and felt an instant connection to this band. It was the start of a long and fun journey!
One of the greatest bands ever. In the late 80s I was very young and well-behaved. My little sister gave me a cassette tape with Sonic Youth. I became free and became me.
You lost brain cells
Such songs show that the 90s were prepared by the 80s! By the way, Nirvana was founded in 1987.
Rest In Peace Mark e Smith

You're it
No, you're it
Hey, you're really it
You're it
No I mean it, you're it
Say it
Don't spray it
Spirit desire (face me)
Spirit desire (don't displace me)
Spirit desire
We will fall
Miss me
Don't dismiss me
Spirit desire
Spirit desire, spirit desire
Spirit desire, we will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall
Spirit desire, spirit desire
Spirit desire, we will fall
Spirit desire
We will fall

Everybody's talking 'bout the stormy weather
And what's a man to do but work out whether it's true?
Looking for a man with a focus and a temper
Who can open up a map and see between one and two
Time to get it
Before you let it get to you
Here he comes now
Stick to your guns and let him through
Everybody's coming from the winter vacation
Taking in the sun in a exaltation to you
You come running in on platform shoes
With Marshall stacks to at least just give us a clue
Ah, here it comes
I know it's someone I knew
Teenage riot in a public station
Gonna fight and tear it up in a hypernation for you
Now I see it
I think I'll leave it out of the way
Now I come near you
And it's not clear why you fade away
Looking for a ride to your secret location
Where the kids are setting up a free-speed nation for you
Got a foghorn and a drum and a hammer that's rockin'
And a cord and a pedal and a lock, that'll do me for now
It better work out
I hope it works out my way
Cause it's getting kind of quiet in my city's head
It takes a teenage riot to get me out of bed right now
You better look it
We're gonna shake it up to him
He acts the hero
We paint a zero on his hand
We know it's down
We know it's bound too loose
Everybody's sound is round it
Everybody wants to be proud to choose
So who's to take the blame for the stormy weather
You're never gonna stop all the teenage leather and booze
It's time to go round
A one man showdown teach us how to fail
We're off the streets now
And back on the road on the riot trail

Wish I could go back to the 90's 🤘😎
That's nice, but this song is from the 80s
@@ibullock just because it came out in the 80s doesn’t mean people couldn’t have nostalgia associated with it from the 90s

Amazing.
Brief punk history❤️❤️❤️
Sun Ra, Harvey Pekar...
Now that's a video!
Evol, Sister and Daydream Nation is Sonic Youth's trifecta, with Sister being their apex.
Experimental, Jet Set, Thrash and No Star is a really great runner up. Sonic Youth RULES!
Sorry dude - gotta give some love to Dirty: drunken butterfly, 100%, shoot, sugar kane, and probably my favorite Sonic Youth jam, wish fulfillment.
*washing machine!*
A thousand leaves
No BMR?
Sensacional!
love it
Happy anniversary day dream nation
I really hope someday there will be an annotated version of this video citing all the clip sources. My favorite being Pussy-Galore-era Jon Spencer's "guitar drop" at the beginning, but there are so many more- Harvey Pekar, Patti Smith, KISS, Iggy Pop, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, etc. etc.
Someone listed almost everything in the comments under the unrestored version of the video: ua-cam.com/video/tPytYrYqDbA/v-deo.html&lc=UgyPP-Yxw16PmqiCduJ4AaABAg

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
hey sonic youth
classic
happy 68, Kim
Kim Gordon rules 🤘🏼
Daniel Johnston at 243 so awesome. Sun ra, Iggy, black flag too. A video full of artists that were unapologetically themselves. Not to mention the band itself lol.
For me the 80's basically sucked except for listening to these guys.
Thanks!
The riff that became the clarion call for the 90s. From this point until Cobain died: that’s the decade, kids. Echoes of this came after ‘94 (and A LOT of great music, don’t get me wrong), but “the nineties” started here.
🎶💜🎶
Why would they remove the intro? :l
So many legends in this video * < *
They also dropped an entire verse out of the song. Maybe they were trying to keep it under 5 minutes.
"Goodbye 20th Century: A Biopic of Sonic Youth"; About time!... Time to get it before you let it get to you.
