I don’t have any of these decks, I have been eyeing the Tao Oracle. however by looking at your cards I can tell the Tao Oracle will be easier for me to bond with and to read.

I’m definitely more colorful! 🌈 Great comparison with Barbara as a third! 👍🏻

I've kind of been interested in the black white and red deck..and I have the Tao Oracle, I don't love it. I did IChing for years with the yarrow stalk method on the daily. It's more of a bibliomancy thing...the best book has a yellow hard cover with a gray jacket, it is a translation by Wilhelm/Baynes from the Princeton University Press. I don't think it's hard to find. I like the yarrow stalks the best because it forces a kind of meditation. (you can buy yarrow stalks on amazon, but I made apple and rose stalks) I do all three methods - I learned to do the rice grain method from Benebell Wen's IChing course which includes files for a printable deck and book - her translation, I haven't spent as much time with it, but you know she's extremely brilliant and actually translated the book of changes from ancient Chinese. IKR?!? So..I do use my Benebell IChing deck for single draws occasionally, but there would be no changing line. The changing line gives you a direction, sort of an "if you do this, then that may be the result..." it does take some quiet contemplation - and it can be very fulfilling (also slightly addicting if I'm honest). Hope this is helpful...thank you for all you do!

Thank you! That's a really eloquent explanation of what appeals to me about the I Ching, I think; the process of generating the hexagrams - particularly with yarrow stalks or rice really *does* create a kind of meditative state. Also, the fact you have to work for it means it's kind of harder to dismiss the reading as a result! thanks for the tip re: the book, I'll definitely check that out...

I have the Holitzka one and LOVE it ! It was really useful to see how they match (or not) cause I've been considering getting the Tao Oracle for a while. Thank you for sharing ;)

As to how I use it, I use it mainly as an oracle and the impressions the card gives me at the moment of the reading. Also, I like to use the red circle(s) to show where the main source energy is at the moment and if it is well distributed, how it is being used and what function it has for the client.

That’s really interesting, I hadn’t thought of the red dot but you’re right, it seems to be placed very significantly in each card!

Very interesting, i don't know the I ching, but probably someday i'll study it and end up with one of these. Both decks are beautiful in their own way :D Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome! I love the I Ching - although I'm still not sure how much I'll use the cards, even though they are beautiful. But it'll be nice to be able to refer to them when I do use the I Ching...

great video. there is another deck out there these days by Luanea Weatherstone on I ching. it looks very beautiful. i am very drawn to it. it's sepia in color with old-like images of ancient culture. There is also a very very beautiful one Visionary I ching deck.

Thank you so much, I have recently purchased the Holitzak cards and guidebook. I thought I was buying cards, the guide book in nice but I think a using an I Ching translation is better. I like Alfred Huang's translation. For me, the Holitzka cards are much less distracting. I do like the colors of the Tao Oracle but like you said I would see too much of the artist in my reading.

what a hard choice. i like the i ching cards a lot better in terms of aesthetic but i like how the tao oracle has meanings which is good for a beginner like me.

About the Holitzka deck: if you like it I encourage you to by the original edition that was published with US Games. The original edition has gold paint in it which in the cheaper Librero edition turned into a brownish sort of red which doesn't do justice to the original cards.
About the Barbara Walker cards: they are based on false, wrong and hilarious assumptions that turn the Yijing in something it was never meant to be. Her cards hardly have anything to do with the Yi, it is merely her highly biased and limited perception of it.

Yes, I've come to that conclusion after studying them more. They're a definite oddity. She's approaching it with a specific agenda which turns it into something else. I can see where she's coming from in terms of wanting a less 'patriarchal' tone, but in a sense that requires her to ignore the fact that earlier translations - and the oracle itself - are the products of a particular time. In a way, it would have been better if she had just created a whole new Goddess oracle.
I'll look out for that earlier Holitzka!
