  • I'm going to start this new series with the build of my AMT Kenworth K100 day cab conversion and Rocky Mountain Double. Watch "How I Build It" through my ideas and how I make the modifications to suit my taste. Once the model is complete, I will showcase it at the museum. Thanks for watching!

Karl, Doing some following build vids are always lots of fun to get into your train of thought and how you overcome obstacles. I love kit-bashing. I had a large collection of big rigs before I stopped (for other reasons) 20 years ago. I had the Revel Germany Peterbilt "Bills Signs" truck and I had plans to make that a Tri-Drive single cab to haul the Chrome Tank trailer. The rear axles on that truck were a spread axle and it would had been awesome with a 3rd spread drive. I even contacted Revel Germany and had ordered 2 sets of all the frame and suspension. Maybe that could be a future project for you to build!!
Being an old-school modeler, all I ever used was the Testors enamel paints. Getting back into the hobby, I struggle to understand the new paints and what can work with what. There is really no Testors anymore, I know of using Tamiya paint but I don't use an Air-brush or how the Acrylic paints are. Even with my Smokey and the Bandit build, that was the first time I had ever used Rustoleum to paint a model and it was a disaster. But yet other UA-camrs like Chris at Hipguysworkshop mixes and matches paints on a daily grind. I don't get it.
I don't know if you can dumb it down for me or not. I'd hate to use little cans of expensive hobby paint if there are cheaper but useful alternatives.
Still Karl, this will be fun to watch.
I still say you need to build the Smokey and Bandit. I'd love to see how you would create it!
    Cheers 🍻
    Earl

Earl, your comments and kindness are much appreciated! I can tell you with a certainty that I use spray paint too and even paint outside. The best spray paint ever was Krylon from about 7 years ago and at that time it was $5.00 CAD per can... it was great all around.
Haven't been able to get the "old" Krylon at any price in Canada for a long time now and I've even checked in Washington, Oregon and Montana with only the "new" Krylon at more than $12.00 CAD per can. Rustoleum 2X is $15.00 CAD per can and Dupli-Color is about the same. It's outrageous for pricing.
I am still using Rustoleum 2X and having decent results. I do not use Testors, Tamyia or any other hobby shop paint except for small bottles of touch up paint. I really did like the Model Master series Semi-Gloss and Satin Clear spray cans but those are now gone too. It's hit and miss with any spray paint nowadays I find.
I just bought an airbrush for the first time and that will change up my builds for sure. A Smokey Kenworth hey? I do have the decals for the tractor, it's definitely in my plans! Thanks again Earl!!

I've tried that before but I don't like the inconsistency that system creates at the splice. I appreciate your comment though, thanks!
