I grew up in Colombia and have been a football fan since childhood-never imagined I’d hear both topics on the Prof G Pod! Equidad is a fascinating investment; they consistently compete and make the playoffs despite working with a limited budget and no star signings. However, they still need to expand their fan base, especially with two powerhouse clubs in the same city. A strong rebrand and some fresh capital for better players could take them to the next level. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lifting a league trophy soon! It would be amazing to have you guys for a live session in Bogotá. Love the show!
Perscription drugs are 11.4% of healthcare dollars spent. Focus on hospitalization and advanced diagnostics for where costs rise. When I worked in the hospital in the 80's 3/4 of health dollars were spent in the last 3 months of life. That is why I went to graduate school and became a Nurse Practitioners to work in primary care. Now we spend 40% in the last month. Drug companies do contribute but the majority of inflation is elsewhere. Insurance companies are involved in many of these decisions. They dictate what can be done for a specific diagnosis. You must have codes. They are the lobby that always fights healthcare most vigorously. That tells you a lot.
Hey Prof G and Ed, love the podcast, been watching for a long time! A small improvement request: During the market vitals, it'd be useful to know the spot price and the price delta. For example, you mention bond yields went up, but by how much? Hopefully not too big of an ask. Keep up the amazing work!
Scott and Ed totally miss the boat about needing to elect our representatives. Forgetting how much money influences politics with the overturn of Citizens United. Not to mention corporate lobbying. Scott and Ed could benefit from interviewing the authors of "The Wolves of K Street" as a start. I hate how media and people with influence keep putting the "blame" on regular citizens when its actually money. Get real!
Incorrect. You just think you're intelligent because of your safe-haven, consensus-derived higher ed credentials (definitely not a sign of smart, "first principals" thinking). Intelligent people have an open mind and understand that collectivism, state censorship, lawfare, reverse discrimination, massively inefficient (and corrupt) big government plus desperately weak leadership cripple ALL nations that are trapped in such consensus-driven and risk-avoidant ideological slop. Look at Europe. It has dropped an additional 30% behind America over the last 20 years in GDP. There's a reason for the massive swing to meritocracy/conservatism and away from (third wave, feminism-derived) woke socialism... it works. Now, that's intelligent.
We wouldn't have openai or UA-cam or Deepmind the same way are today without Elon hiring an angel investing into them The founders of UA-cam worked for him at PayPal..then he wrote a cheque.. wouldn't have UA-cam or openai or stealing engineers from Google brain

Tiered pricing is actually much more inclusive. If Netflix could only charge one price, it would be higher than the current price for the lowest tier. This is mostly true for all products that are priced in tiers, it’s all about going for different willingness to pay.
Thanks for confirming this for me - I have been saying this for YEARS! I feel like this is a best example why the show being delayed disappoints. The not mentioning of Deepseek and Mondays regression, the Columbian tariffs and how that affects the investment. Timing is off
Masayoshi Son isn’t Korean-born Japanese National. He’s born in Saga Prefecture Japan. He is 3rd generation ethnic Korean whose ancestors are denied Japanese citizenship because (like American now) they don’t practice birthright citizenship
Johnson & Johnson is mainly focused on dealing with the cancer lawsuits damages and shuffling companies around, and Opioid legal issues. They aren't even ready for the cost discussion, so it's not surprising that they didn't address anything related to the UHC event.
re: Stargate, I am sure those guys felt pretty good on Friday but a bunch of math majors in China had a different idea. It will be fun to watch what will happens next
It's tough that this episode released, mostly praising Oracle and Project Stargate when DeepSeek just completely annihilated the valuation of AI companies and likely stopped the fundraising for Project Stargate. Wish I could've heard y'all's take on DeepSeek and what it means to the valuation of major AI players when a scrappy LLM comes into play at a fraction of the cost. Anyways, love the pod! Congrats on the soccer deal
DeepSeek is just hype. They have no long term strategy. IF they actually have better algorithms, they will still need the infrastructure, which others will have AND will figure out the better algorithm.
@@lifescope It doesn't matter if DeepSeek is hype, it made a comparable LLM for roughly $500 million. It makes Project Stargate's $500 BILLION investment a headscratcher because it proves that better and more chips doesn't equate to a better LLM. DeepSeek made a very comparable LLM with worse hardware and a fraction of the computing. DeepSeek makes the entire financing around AI look like wasted money.

How the F can voters elect public servants that will stand up to corporations when most politicians-once they're on the inside-start taking from the lobbyists that have a lot of control over what gets regulated? 🤬 and how long will it take to get these representatives replaced-10-20 years?
If you actually look at where all the money goes in healthcare it goes to employees working there The nurses doctors secretaries back office people. If you compare what people in the medical professions make in America compared to any other developed countries you see that they make multiples of what people do in other countries. Just look at what the average surgeon in America made compared to the average surgeon in the UK. There are simply too many people that work in healthcare that need the money and their jobs to take much money out of it
Guys, Ed, why don't you come to Brazil and do some investigation into medical costs? Do a check-up here... really... and then you would have some more arguments...
Hi .... On the healthcare prices. Without pointing fingers in any direction and agreeing that the first at fault is us voting against our interests .. My 2 cents and to keep it simple to fit my IQ..... There are 3 major components for healthcare industry 1. Pharma companies 2. Insurance companies 3. Hospitals / Doctors. Again very simplistically.... The middle category I(NSURANCE COMPANIES) for patients are the ONLY ones that don't bring any benefits...... So arguably cutting them out of equation FIRStT is a very low hanging fruit that will save a few Billions for healthcare. After we can go after Pharma and hospitals/ doctors .. Thoughts?
This notion that we need to understand the issues a little bit more is ridiculous. I know Ed is relatively new to the country, but anybody who has lived here for any amount of time knows that the cost of healthcare goes up when there's a benefit to the companies providing it. Which is why healthcare is so much less expensive in other countries. Crying socialism, or communism like so many people on the right do every time this is brought up is the reason we will never move away from this ludicrous situation. Electing Democrats, by the way, doesn't do much better. It's basically all one big party at this point.
