Fantastic. You are simply fantastic... i have heard again and again the the beginning part of this video because in the background i have recognized "oxygene part 4" of Jean-Michel Jarre (obviously i think it was not the original one but that was one of my beloved music piece😍). Congrats. I appreciate you so much.
About Diskpart. You use it to remove partitions because if there is windows readable partitions, windows will not let you mess with them from outside source (winuae)
The boot frustration was because you named the volume as SyS. It conflicted with the Amigas built in SYS: assign. So actually it started to boot the HD0 Msys drive but then switched to your other drive, as the OS creates the assigns of S: Devs: C: libs: etc. It creates them from SYS: Now SYS: is the boot drive, but there was another SYS: in your system which conflicted and the OS prioritises over a drive label vs the device name so it switched to your other drive. I dunno if i wrote that very well and hope it makes sense :)
It makes perfect sense!! thank you so much! The'SYS' assign just didnt occur to me and this was driving me crazy! Trust me to freakin pick THE name that keeps coming back to tangle me in threads lol... Maybe I should stick to 'googly' next time! ;o))
hahahaha! Yes definitely stick to googly!! its way much more fun! I just tested it on a real Amiga. I renamed a workbench floppy as sys, rebooted, held down both mouse buttons and to access the early startup menu. I selected to boot specifically from the hard drive, and what do you know.. the floppy drive is wirring like mad as its loading some stuff up off the floppy. It still kinda booted the hard drive but it was a very criss cross mix between the two. Definitely a nice conflict there hahaha! Its a very interesting bug/quirk in the OS you have found there! I'm tempted to now rename disks to CON or PAR or SER to really screw with the Operating System!! :D
Hahah that is an interesting quirk for sure, i'm sure it can be used for something. if not just shear geeky messing about lol :o)) I'm going to mention it in the next part though, if anyone does decide to follow my video and starts calling their drives "Sys" there will be a sudden surge in pain killer sales lol
Hola Maddie, you are always doing something interesting. I still have to check out your Sanyo cassette recorder video. I have two cassette recorders but they are not the portable kind. I have an Akai GX-M50 and an Akai 703-D. Did you ever join the tapeheads forum I cant remember. Right now they have a thread that someone started asking if there are any women in the forum and I said that I thought that you had joined but were probably too busy with your channel to post any comments on the tapeheads forum.Anyways, very interesting video. I am not to familiar with computer to be at the level that you are.Cheers
Hola Rob, Yes I had joined tapeheads though I don´t fix things often enough to post. At the best of times i´ve never really been much of a form poster, more of a reader, Gracias, y saludos.
I tried OS 3.9 install a while back and couldn't work it out. Thank you for this I'm going to attempt it again after watching this. What is the main benefit of having 3.9 instead of 3.1?
Actually there are a few main benefits, the user, interface has been updated, as well as preferences, utilities, tools, editors etc. It supports drives larger than 4GB just to mention a few, you'd benefit from it way more if you have an accelerated Amiga. And it's my pleasure, I hope you manage to get it up and running.
When you connected your SD adapter to the board and turned your amiga on did your HDD led was always on? I have been having issues with it and it seems that my machines (either 1200 or 600 or even CD32 with SX32) don't recognize the SD adapter but I get HDD led ON all the time. Suspecting faulty adapter but it had been bought new and tested so I'm not sure...
Very interesting, I have an Amiga 1200 with a compact flash storage solution in bad need of a re-cap. Using an SD-card instead of Compact flash might be a good option.
You might as well, SD cards are cheaper and more easily available, I'm not sure if there are compatibility issues with brands like there are with CF cards too.
I often use the same brand you just used. Main stream high speed cards probably work best.

Hola por qué motivo si uso CF o SD o SSD de más de 8Gb, el win uae, luego del clean en DiskPart, me indica que tiene 931Gb??? No puedo usar nada mayor. Asimismo 3 CF'S idénticas de 8Gb hay una que en WUAE funciona como HD0 pero en el 1200 no y he probado montones de formas para que lo logré y no logro cambiar esa condición. Gracias
nice job my freind in my work shop i Re-design all kind of electronic sets from amplifires to chargers and i really like your enthusiasm for elctronics so god bless you woman and i hope for you more Progress in your work and if you need any thing please ask Maybe I can help you with my experience modest so take care and thanks for posting
Wow. That seemed quite some trouble. Glad you did it and made the video (which was fun to watch as always). I'll try OS3.9 sometime on my A1200, I think. For now I'll spare me the trouble and stick with 3.1. ;)
Thank you! Well, OS 3.9 is worth it, especially if you have an accelerator.I hope after doing this video, others will learn or be aware of my mistakes and not go through the same trouble. If I was following a guide, it would make things much easier, so I decided to make one instead :o)
Having problems trying to define my 8 Gb SD card in hdtoolbox, I can setup my 8GB compact flash drive without any probs, but SD card I cannot define it gives error something about it not being a logical drive error 32.
MsMadLemon have tried using diskpart and cleaned it but no luck, will try with the sd format program, but I thought this would create a petition for windows tomuse
One thought that did occur to me... try a different card reader, when I tried to define the SD card using the internal SD card reader on my laptop, it kept freezing, until I used another card reader.
I meant to type format and create a partition for window to use, which is why diskpart is used. But will give SD Formatter a go. Hope your are still going to do a tutorial on how to create a HDF file of the workbench with req utilities etc to prep the new hardrives etc....
There's a program for Windows and other OS called SD Formatter that completely wipes a card and it has a graphical user interface. You can get it from the SD association sdcard.org
How do you change the background image/skins? Is there a installer app and a site to download backgrounds? Had a look around but could not find any proper info, tutorials on the matter. Thanks
Thanks Chris, but if you are referring to the backdrops in workbench, you just go into Workbench Prefs and then click "Workbench pattern" you can select a picture. A tutorial on how to change the background image is a bit overkill.
Thanks, yeah, I know a tutorials is a bit overkill for a background image but I'm looking to change the background with custom wallpaper like you do with a PC, not just the default ones. Is there a site with custom themes that you can download pre-set themes? Cheers
Yes, you can get them from Aminet actually: aminet.net/pix/back I have a couple of projects going but when I do another Amiga video sometime, i'll include a little section on this.
Getting into Amiga hardware again I am so appreciative of these kind of videos, thanks for sharing, it means the world to us who are getting started after a long break from the Amiga. A question regarding the SD card adapter (I have the same one). Does your Amiga HDD 1200 LED light up all the time? because mine is just stuck at a non-stop yellow light. :\ Workbench and everything works fine but I have trouble mapping up memory with WHDLoad. A lot of games crashes or are displaying graphical artifacts.
Thank you for this tutorial, Maddi! I followed along with your configuration (although I'm using FS-UAE since I'm on a Linux machine and WinUAE doesn't exist there!), and managed to get a nice AmigaOS 3.9 setup prepared that will be going into my Amiga 4000 once it's in my hands and gets settled in and some TLC! Oh, also a heads-up: the link to the Boing Bags you put up is dead, but I found copies of the Boing Bags at this link: lilliput.amiga-projects.net/bbag4.htm
It's my pleasure! I use FS-UAE mostly if i'm gong to emulate since my main machine is OS X, this WINuae one is on my laptop, I just use it to make video tutorials on, since Winuae.. wait, you're able to attach real hard drives in FS-UAE? I heard you couldnt which is why I showed it in WINuae . I'm glad you managed to sort out an OS3.9 setup for yourself. Thanks for the heads up about the dead link, I just corrected that!
lol that sounded bad the way I wrote it, it's just my machine was an autobooting Kickstart 1.3 machine and always found the 2.0 onwards machines less fun to deal with (and looks too generic like Unix/Windows to help sales I guess).

I think the official name should be changed to Freakin' BoingBag. Frickin' folder's not bad either. I lost it at Googly, LOL! Thumbs up!
Jean-Michel Jarre!
Excellent choice! :D
You're a fan of Jarre?
Indeed i am.
@@MsMadLemonThat's fantastic! He's one of my favorites of all time. He's one of the greatest musicians of all time!
