Magnificent Aussie 80's The build up to the game, half time entertainment, the ad's are a glimpse of our wonderful past......oh and go hawks! By the way you are a superstar. I appreciate your effort in showing the old games. Many people enjoy to reflect and reminisce
It's 11 p,m. here and I have to work tomorrow :-( Thank you for the ads, a glimpse into a world long gone. Some footy royalty in this game, geez, these guys could play.
I always have thought the vision from this game has a strange tint to it - the ball looks different in colour for one thing. Was there some sort of slight haze affecting the ground?
I was there for the whole finals series. The 2nd semi was a farce. Carlton dominated the Hawks in the first half and were a point in front at half time. Carlton were flat in the Grand Final and had no answer to Brereton and Dunstall and their forward line were way past their peak to compete. Dunstall was double teamed by Doull and Dorotich in the 2nd semi and the Hawks were way too smart to let that happen again. Silvagni should have played. It was hard watching him win the flag in the curtain raiser. Hawks were the best side all year though. That match against Geelong during the year was...ridiculous
Second quarter. Blackwell to Hunter. Hunter to Glasscott ...Tuck grabs Glasscott and pushess and shoves him onto a more difficult angel ... Glasscott goes to kick for goal on the original angel... The umpire pulls him up and makes him kick from Tucks Angel! Watching this back reminds me that the little things can effect everything in your life ,it could be ruined by the pathetic umpiring back in the 70s 80s 90s. A grand final win can change people's lives, money wise. or ruin it! That kind of decision could have cost Collingwood this year's grand final! He moved him 5 METRES on to a tighter Angel ! Unbelievable . 1993 the umpires were responsible for Essendon winning by pleasing the home crowd with 33 free kicks to Adelaide 13 Essendon should not have even been in the 93 Grand Final! Gold Spink had a Family connection to Essendon. Maybe it was subconscious! But his incompetence changed the football worlds history!
Not a classic grand final this one but the Hawks were just too relentless on the day. Interesting to hear the hostile crowd reaction to Prime Minister, Bob Hawke by the crowd in the post game presentations. A milestone game in many ways, the final game of the old 12-club VFL competition before the expansion to include teams from Queensland and Western Australia. The final game of Bruce Doull after 359-games for Carlton and the final game (at the time) for Channel 7, who had been broadcasting VFL football since 1959 and who would lose the TV rights to Broadcom and later the ABC for 1987, also the final game as commentator for the great Lou Richards. I wonder why the Fable Singers club songs of the two sides were not used this particular year in favour of a big band?
@@aussie80s I was going to ask there was a commercial during the broadcast that I wanted to snip out and post on twitter, was wondering if that is okay to do (i would credit you)

A brilliant rendition of Waltzing Matilda by Olivia Newton John

RIP Olivia
On the same year, these two teams played an exhibition game in Japan
Hawthorn won that game I believe?
That intro with Sandy on the rotating platform looks cheesy AF nowadays
Great uploads on this channel, mate. Thank you. Any chance you'd have some Aussie NBL or American NBA footage from this era?

Anymore full grand final broadcast
For some reason the medal and cup presentation for a lot of Hawthorn premierships were not included on the DVDs.

Mark Maclure and Ken Hunters last game too
I wonder how many of those booing Hawkie ended up mourning his death in 2019?
@@melthoidserendipity1332Ken Hunter played in the 1987 flag, and was gone after 1989

I don't, but feel free to ask anyhow.
