I was yellow in that game
And my idea was to "bully" blue
He Got less troops than anyone Else
So blue has to make a move
If He slams into me He dies
If He dosent He dies at some point
With my Move i was save thrid place
And i am really New to the game
Played risk only 3 weeks now And only because of pete^^
Anyway
I Would be happy with third place
But it worked out i guess
And the game is called "risk" after All:D
GG man!
I think your play was way more risky than something I'd ever attempt for the reason that blue was the weakest player so he had essentially nothing to lose. At any point he could have slammed into you and made you lose along with him (and 'should' have since by not punishing you he still got 4th but you ended in first.
When did u realise that Pete was in the same match, when the listings were prepared or at the start of the match..or did u not know at all...? Well Played..
Can confirm story, I was Green
@@TheKillPeteStrategy Blue really botched that. He had no hope of finishing above 4th so his best play was to go at the south islands around the 45 minute mark and hope that the path he tore through the board would create enough chaos that maybe he finishes third? But I mean at that point blue is dead anyway so better to throw a hail Mary then to die a slow death. I would have to say Blue also lost Pete the game by not taking action it allowed them to slowly build up on you. Not that 17 point game isn't bad it's top 15%? I just am baffled at blue. Either way you die 4th so why not take scorched earth and see if it shakes out differently. One way you know what happens. the other way at least there is a small chance your chaos gives you a better placement.
Even if your attack on Blue was "risky" in my opinion you deserved to win buy taking a "risk" that gave you a position where you would win in time. (if no one ever does anything how can they establish any advantage?) I have been playing this board game for 40 years but am here just watching Pete. Thank you for making this a GREAT game to watch and Pete did well so we are all happy. 👍
Blue is insane. Why would he just give a bonus to someone who was blocking him the whole game then also let black take his only other bonus and just sit there not doing anything about it. I guess maybe they were scared of being labeled a suicider but there were many points where it was super justified.
Blue had an extra 30 troops in that position at some point. That ain’t a suicide, but the correct thing would’ve been to leave stacks of 10 around
Its mainly cause of the fact that from the point he failed the pink kill he was the smallest stack and in a tournament you dont want to sucide unless u can get a kill which would of been in the game 5 points 3 for the 1st kill and 2 for the extra placement gained in a normal worldwide ffa ranked blue would of most likely slammed yellow way earlier cause he had already losted so killing the 1 person who was antagonistic to you makes way more sense
Blue had so many options, and someone ended up taking the worst path of ultra passive play
I think they just thought "well maybe if I do nothing I'll get lucky and be able to take advantage of a war in the future."
I am far too prideful. At some point I would've said "Well I am clearly not winning, but there is no way in Hell yellow is either. "
If I was blue, near the end, I would have suicided into yellow and fed the yellow kill to Pete as a thank you for Pete's early play.
It was a great pleasure playing this game with you peteman. I was General Carnivore. I only did so well this game because of watching and learning from you over the past few months
I noticed me and you had the same thoughts constantly. Guessing you expecting yellow to hit blue hence moving your stack out the way. Incredibly surprised between the dynamic of yellow and blue
Eyyy let's go!
Subbed in at the last minute.
GG bro. Good luck in your next rounds.
Nice! Glad to see you presumably advance to Round 2. IMO Blue's potential winning move was to remove yellow from that pocket, right after you killed Magenta. Then the only way yellow could have taken cards was to break you or black. What he did instead was rather...passive, to put it politely.
I agree, I think blues only chance was to do something and see what happens
@@TheKillPeteStrategy where can we see who made it to R2?
Everyone from round 1 gets to play in round 2. Then they make cuts after that.
@@jaymich5229 thanks! In any case is there a way to see current standings?
@@benhicks9481 Yes. On Discord in Event Announcements, they have a link showing the results of every group. One of the tabs even shows all of the standings.
When blue had the option to hit a yellow 1 and 7 stack to remove him from that side and lose the option to take cards I knew it would end in yellow stacking there. This would of forced yellow to attack black or you Pete, and would of 100% benefited himself since he was the only one not near yellow at that point. Great game overall and excited for more, you have me wanting to get into risk myself as I've watched enough to feel confident in being successful!
This is a map that truly rewards the have's, and really punishes the have nots. It also very quickly establishes which one of those 2 categories you fall into.
The single stack Asia player can win at classic fixed world dom, but I don't think that's possible in Japan
Really appreciate the work you put in for the YT side of things - hope you get to enjoy the games as much as we do watching.

Im at 52:16 and wondering at what point does blue start slow rolling 10s or so into yellows stack after taking a card….out of principle
Yeah that would be the thing to do

Well played Pete! You know, you're not only a very good risk player, but also and incredible teacher! I wonder how many players are in the tournament because of you? My guess, you'd be surprised!

Keep doing what you love to do (geo, risk or whatever) !! 🥰
Appreciate it Cyril! I will
haha at 28:00 i thought in blue's shoes I'd kick yellow out. What a completely different game it would have been
For real!
Untill yesterday I had no clue there was a competitive Risk scene. YT recommended your vid from a year ago and I stayed past the first min because of your very pleasant personality (not really because of the game). But then it hooked me. Good job on game one this time around.
Thanks!
1:00:00 Why not take Blue's top right zone here? Nothing to defend it. You think pointless because Yellow wouldn't accept you having it?
A true Risk gamer, good luck in the future of your channel and this game
🙏 thank you!
I don't get the yellow 3rd continent thing. You and black both had a decent lead on yellow, but you both let him catch up for free. Is it just afraid he'd suicide if you broke him, or that he could break the bonuses on the other side? Is the better play really to let him make a game winning play and just take second?
I hope Reginald shows up
He didn’t 😢

Finally World Championships again! 😃. I’m really looking forward to this series! And as usual, thank you for sharing all this 🙏🏼❤️

Did anyone else notice that at 1:19:54 when he did his second attack off the 4 stack it was actually a lucky 2 v 1???
He would’ve just split off the other stack.

Pete, I’ve been following you for a while and I think if I had to summarise you in a sentence is “ that’s how the cookie crumbles” 😂😂😂 you use it soooooo much
Maybe I'm hungry
30:30, what a gift...
Indeed!
Here at the (1:0:16) mark. Blue should definitly take the risk. Too hit and take yellows position in the east, with enough luck he could hold above a hundred troops, and screw the game for yellow, who wouldn't instantly be able to retaliate, and for either you or black to take the risk in eliminating him. But losing the troops for the win. As well, make it possible for another player to take out yellow instead. Wich would be less likely but possible.
Love you man!! Found you last summer, I disappeared for a bit. Have some money for making parts of my work day more bearable in VOD land.
Eyy thank you Stephen! Very much appreciated Sir
Blue just played to please everyone, which we all saw what gets you. If I was blue, when Yellow decided to take the bonus, I would either interrupt his take or just cross the map and end his positions on the bonus he had on the other side of the map, basically parking on his territory. Also when Black took blue's bonus he does nothing? Again I would interrupt all the bonuses of Yellow and Black.

I'm glad to see you around again.
Best of luck this season brother. I know that 800IQ will come in handy.
Hey Pete, nice game!
I had an idea while watching, and wanted your (and others') take on it. What if you would have moved your army from the top of Chubu to the top of Tohoku, and then connected your army from Chugoku into a single stack?
I figured that may push black out to take your evacuated Chugoku bonus, leaving you with the Tohoku and putting more pressure on yellow from black.
Any thoughts?
I don't tend to do so well when I steal bonuses from newer players.
I guess the strategy is more of a “let them make the mistake”. More turns that occur, the more likely it is for a new player to f up, and the better player to win maybe
Love the vids man, never knew risk could be so much fun to watch
Glad you like them!

Always great stuff as always KPS
This game is like someone holding a funeral for themself before they've died
lol
I'm clearly having a terrible time
At 1:03:20 I would of taken blues bonus. Opinions on this?
A few minutes later black took his bonus guess we had equal thinking
Yellow had some serious balls to pull that off. Pinning blue in with no options. So often the games of risk I play (Im pretty bad lol) end with whoever played the safest winning
I'm honestly surprised it didn't backfire.
Pretty unfortunate it was like yellow was out to get blue from the beginning. The only options blue really had in my opinion was to either force yellow to hit small stacks of blue, take Ryukyu Islands or just suicide into yellow. Almost guaranteed 4th position after failing that kill on magenta.
I wonder if yellow would have been better off limiting how big he made that stack. I get the idea of bullying blue and trying to goad blue into doing something stupid. The way I see it, if blue slams that stack, and it's just big enough to make him die to you but not enough to make yellow the fish, you get the bounty but yellow might be able to kill you after? But once you go all-in on the cold war, you've lost that value, I think. Like in poker, when you bet just enough to coax someone into making a risky call
Man, watching blue was frustrating. He basically gifted the win to yellow because he didn't retaliate at all. Slamming into yellow or sprinting to the south to flip the situation around would have been justified, but instead he just sat there :(
True, if I was being cemented as 3rd place, I would rather threaten 1st and 2nd place suicide attack, and incentivise them to hit yellow and stop the bullying
I figured blue would have stopped yellow before it was too late.
I was wondering what would have happened had you (Red) break yellow's unguarded territory to stop blue's bullying at one point
But of course it's a risk one had to take, gg 2nd place and great job yellow, big risk big reward
🙏
Good Game! What was blue thinking? he could of made a few plays to save himself there, but like you said, set the tone, people will take advantage of it.
Oh yeah. I never let people push me around like that.
I think blue's mistake was at the very beginning. He should have taken the second bonus AND removed yellow's exterior to make yellow be a problem for the opposite end of the board. Force everyone else to deal with it, rather than allowing it on his front porch.
I fully agree.
I'm not finding the option when I play, but I'm seeing players changing/cycling through their in game color. Is this only in certain types of games and not solo?

Pete, we gotta help Kylted get an opening catch phrase.
Something like "Hi I'm Kylted, I'm probably best known for playing Oddjob in 007 Goldeneye."
Hey Pete - great video as always. What was the hack to make kills quicker. I’m having trouble traversing the board in 60 seconds. Finished 2nd with a bounty in round 1, but could have won if I could move quicker.

at 45mins....If I were blue i run through and break both of yellow's bonuses. Cost me about 15 troops, but makes a point.
I agree with that too.
Another tournament to look forward to 😎
If blue would have suicided someone, would the player in the turn order after take out the other player first and give blue more points for the feed?
It depends on the player. I may have depending on the circumstances.
For example if blue slammed into yellow I likely would have taken the yellow bounty then the blue bounty and given the win to black since I wouldn't personally bully a player with nothing to lose out of their bonus(es) but everyone reads the situation differently and there's no objectively correct play here.
Love your channel Pete keep it up
Thanks George! Will do
Hey Pete - how do I join the competitions?
I do promos when the sign ups open. I'll do one for the next tournament.
I can't believe I'm ahead of Pete in points, let's see how long that lasts lol
Heyyyy see you in Round 2, looks like!
As far as when I think blue should have hit yellow, I think they shoulda taken them outa that corner completely the turn you wondered why they didn't take the bonus at about @29:00 mins in. Forces yellow to take a card off you or black's bonuses. likely would have won them the game.
I kinda feel like you accepted third when you let yellow hold bottom right and black hold top right, fortunately black got bored.
I love the risk takers shirt!! Is that merch?? How do I get one???
I'm working on setting up the merch
@@TheKillPeteStrategy awesome!!! Can't wait!
So, I have only just started watching your videos and playing risk at all. Can you explain to me why you wouldn’t break yellows Kanto bonus after blue gave it up? It seemed to be the turning point in the game letting yellow take the lead
It's not my role to play board police as the strongest player. I'm fine to take second and 2 (16pts) to yellows first and 1 (15pts) this game. Sometimes it's correct to let others take the lead over you so that you don't get ganged up on or suicided into.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy ah that makes sense! Thank you for clarifying, I have learned so much about the game in such a short time!
very frustrating to watch blue play that passive when he was literally in a losing position it was almost like he was expecting someone else to do something to get him out of trouble when he could have done it himself
Perhaps not expecting but hoping
Let the Hunt begin!
Lets gO!
Yellow played a very risky game and got lucky. Pete played his hand as well as he could to ensure maximum score. Black kind of threw it away, but gets two kills. Blue played poorly. I think white played better than magenta. And both played better than blue haha.
Exactly. I pretty much owe it to myself to play to my outs and get the most points I can.
I always spoil these vids for myself because I am impatient and watch the twitch vods beforehand but im still gonna like for the sake of it lol
Maybe I should turn the vods off for my competitions...
@@TheKillPeteStrategy It seems i have screwed myself over xD
How to we get to see a live stream on UA-cam? I always seem to miss the live streams. 😞
I stream on Twitch. I'll post my schedule for this week once I find out when I'm playing.
What would you say is the "minimum" amount of decent points in a game? 10? 12? 13?
Minimum score is 2 for last place, max score is 22 with first and all the bounties. 10 points puts you in the top half of the tourney right now. 15 puts you in the top 25%. 10-15 per game will probably get you in to round 3 but not past the next cut off.
I think an average of 15 pts in the first two games should be enough to pass.
@@TheKillPeteStrategyI’m just glad I’m not playing against you round 2 😂 means I got a chance to get to round 3
I'm at the 45 minute mark and at this point I think blue should of cut through everyone and taken Yellows islands. He left that path open. It does open up the locked in troops but I'm going to guess blue dies next anyway at this pace. So him cutting across all the ones and taking those islands puts Yellow in the middle of everyone. If I'm blue I throw up the hail mary of taking the south end of the board and stacking everything there and hopefully the scramble by everyone to fix their boarders causes action that lets me not finish in 4th. If I'm blue here my only goal in this game is to not finish 4th. I've already lost a bounty due to poor rolls so I need to further my game. He isn't going to take anything from Red because he is strong. He isn't going to fight black because he has no position. Cut to the south side of the map and say "let the wolves have it" If Red tries to take a third bonus its going to force Yellow and black to either kill blue for the bounty or fight red to not lose the game and get no bounties. Either way blue can't lose here because he is already dead in 4th. So anything he does that gives a slight maybe different outcome is better than a slow death to maintain the status quo.
I wonder what blue was thinking in the moment. Many people were surprised that yellow essentially got away with bullying him for free since as you said he pretty much certainly finishes fourth. As I showed in later rounds I have no intention of letting anyone think they can get away with bullying me.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy His play is certainly baffling to me. I watched it again with mute on (nothing against you just trying to analyze such a unique position and I think he was hoping someone else would force the action. But if he is a really good player (I think this is a grandmaster tourney?) He has to know that whatever happens between him and yellow is forcing the action on the board. I mean this went on for 30 plus turns. He had multiple plays he could of taken that have at least the chance to change the odds. The path he took was just the worst one. Early when he stacks and threatens yellow and yellow doesn't move he should of just cut a path to either the top of the board and hid there or down to yellows end. If someone forces your hand you have to respond. All he did was say "stop it" then sat around and did nothing. I very much think that Blue's play dictated your game and forced you into a worse position waiting on the action from them to play out. At the start of the bullying you have the clear path to victory but by the end you need several things to go your way or its GG. I get you still made it to the next round but I am just speaking to the fact I want to win every game and watching this one play out was fascinating. Blues blunders show us that you just can't sit there and wait for it to play out. Blue at some point needed to punish yellow. He has no way to finish better than 4th unless he changes the board. But him being so passive cost you the win and rewarded bad play from yellow. It's just wow. How does someone allow that to happen. Give them 2/3 warnings then punch.
Blue play was bad on so many levels BUT the endgame. Once you didn't take out the 6 or what troups of an opponent that is cardlocked behind two of your opponents bonuses and then being too chicken to rip off the bandage when it wasn't too costly yet, your basically only move is to single stack and pray someone else dies before you.
Horrible calls. But the pressure is high and people make mistakes. Guess he spiraled after fucking up the kill. Which was a super bad play in itself because that turn he could've just taken yellow out, taken his second bonus AND let magenta fuck with black while yellow probably has to break Pete. Was a winning play right there imo. He just loses the game. Bummer.
Why he didn't break blue at the begining ?
Bro i watched this vid never heard of risk before but downloaded it now
Awesome!
I wonder how you stumbled on my video without knowing Risk at all. Do you watch video on any other strategy game?
@@TheKillPeteStrategy It just randomly showed up in my recommendations, Im glad it did
All your vids are great
🙏🙏 thanks!
Is there a "courtesy" in these championship games to not be a dick and break bonuses? Yellow could have broken Blue's bonus with hardly a sneeze but did not, or was it to keep Blue in a defensible position to eventually attempt to take the bounty for himself instead of weakening Blue for someone else?
Not exactly a courtesy. Good neighbour theory tends to be the correct decision generally (meta dependent of course)
I don't understand why you let them take the 3rd bonus. You just could have blocked or prevented that. Battleing for the 3rd bonus seems not to agressive. In a match with longer stalemates the continued static bonuses make the difference, right?
And if blue had taken out yellow on the right side they would have 2 bonuses without a big fight. Pretty early in the game yellow was only on the right side of the board because blue let him instead of taking the easy 2nd bonus. Blue made his region to the battleground.
very strange play from blue.

I was wondering if at 33:06 if you had considered killing blue. I think that is what I would do in that position, but im much less confident in my ability to win than you are obviously. Im assuming you didn't go for it because it would leave you too weak to go on to win. But at the very least it secures 14 points, and honestly im not even convinced you wouldnt be still be strong enough to carry on fighting for the win.
I was just playing to maximize points so either id like second and two or first and one. If I overextend to make a kill to early that becomes less likely
If I were blue I’d have pushed all the way to yellow’s islands once he gave up the bonus
You can basically skip like 45min and not have missed anything lol.
Anyways, gg Pete
I got second with 2 bountis and the first got 3 good luck pete
Second and two is a great start!
Blue could have shot thru Pete and taken the islands from yellow. Yellow would still be a locked stack if he pathed right. Either way he's still the 🐠, but would be in a better spot imo.
That's definitely an idea
Don't understand Blue's play - he had the smallest stack AND the smallest bonus. Can't just get pushed around, the gap will only continue to widen.
I think he was afraid to overextend
I dont understand why nobody tryed to break continent from one another even if its very safe by loosing 1 card ! Isn't it always worth it ?

Yeeeeeees Big pp pete
Hard to believe yellow is a novice
Lol
What does he mean “fish” ?
When you get eaten for your cards
Nice outcome for you but ugh threat stack-based Fixed games are such skill-less snooze fests….
Here weo gooooo
The problem with such protracted games is that there is little skill shown in remaining alive. Although patienty can be a virtue, after the first two weaker players are killed in the initial rounds , one or two players can stay on the game almost indefinitely, as, by the time the better players have enough material to be tactically sound to make a kill it is not strategically reasonable to do it, as seem with the Black player on this game. So, one player is a dead man walking, but isnt killed because the higher skilled players know that they cant attack, unless they accept to be 3rd. Had not the black player kind of suicided, the game would go on for hours without player showing proper skill other than farming for cards and wait for the other to give up. Sincerely I think this will limit the expansion of the game - not because it makes the game long but because skill cant properly prevail.
This is inherent to Risk.
Because there is luck a larger sample size of games is required to prove skill.
My work so far has show that this isn't limiting the expansion at all since the size of the audience for Risk and my own work, and the tournament is approximately 10x in a year.
@@TheKillPeteStrategy I see, My concern is that, beyond the randomness of the game, the skill differential is not representad in the game play and in the final
result. For instance, blue player finsih 4th playing much worse than black and you only finsih with better point than blue because of the bounties. Maybe even more points for kills is the solution. Otherwise most tournament games wil become a version of the (kind of pointless) caps modes.
p.s.: I love your videos but I think i wil start to skip the caps ones (prog and fixed). Tehy are amking little sense.
Ooh really bothers me the villian yellow got the win. Was it Fairplay? Yes, but he was still the worst type of player in my OP. Totally would have taken him down with me. Its like the type of person in life that steps on people and no one does anything, and then they end up on top, using everyone else to do they're bidding. Eek, I hate that lol.
Although it wasn't yellows fault, he was playing too win in a fn game. It was definitly blues fault though. Damnit blue I was rooting for you to crush yellow lol.
