I learned this form from my sifu a couple years ago and was even lucky enough to perform it at a variety show the next year. The sword is my favorite weapon but this is a close second!
The weapon becomes an extension of his body. The form is only part of routine, his energy (chi) flows through which should generate enough force to knock down a horse or a man on top of one.
This is my favorite Kung Fu weapon. Absolutely deadly and inescapable. Check out "The Lost Bladesman" movie with Donnie Yen where he portraits General Guan Yu. Best weapon-based fight scenes I've ever seen 😳
Awesome style. I can see momentum used to swing the blade for strikes, reverse thrusts to take out enemies behind, and footwork to quickly change direction in the first section of the demo. The first section alone is enough to be a decent fighter. By taking the movements separately and applying them as needed.
I'm not Buddhist BUT _/\_ I really Guan Yu's wisdom, calmness, and his way to wield a the Guan Dao. I just finished know the first section. Thanks you soo much! _/\_
