One or maybe just a couple news channels probably wouldn’t be a bad idea everywhere else. The only issue would be that they may be compromised by whatever administration is in charge, but that could be fixed through competition and self-checking.
Or check multiple international news organisations that are not on either side and than check their sources and aggregate information that overlaps? Bah! That is elitist talk that is. Better call MS media "fake news" and just use shit post memes as my news source. Shockingly they agree with my already established opinions and due to how social media algorithms work what shows up in my feed will be content I already previously liked. So that my echo chamber is "reality proof". By the way any "big money" worth their salt are hard as hell by government organisations to track. It's not about how many people watch the news, it's about who watches the news. If you want to achieve a policy change, for example, publish an article in a media outlet you know the people that would be in charge of said policy change are likely to read. For a time you could predict whether the stock market would open up or down based on what was written in certain newspapers. Their audience isn't the general public, it's certain people in key positions.
@SuperSmashyfication that was never a bug. UA-cam lets views lag behind as a measure against viewbotting. If during that time where the views are throttled they keep climbing anyways, there's a bot being used.

I think it's the effect where the amplitude in the one ear is the reverse in the other. Gives the illusion that the sound is coming from inside your head
One problem with this video is that it focuses too much on engagement as a measurement of views. Not everyone who reads an article or post are going to share or comment.
There are people who think that systemic racism and discrimination against blacks by the police and government in the US, UK, Canada and other 1st world nations is a thing due to the media and social media lying about it, so I think there's a fair amount of influence they still have today.
I've actually noticed that despite all the talk about social media being essential to life now a days I deleted my Facebook and everything else and have felt absolutely zero isolation. Texting, video games, youtube, person to person is more than enough.
Did a paper on this years ago, talking the still in college 15+ sort of years ago, breaking down the influence of advertisement companies on traditional media institutions. Some of them put their reliance on external funding institutions at above 80% of their total revenue. It also encourages making up absolute bullshit numbers regarding viewership, audience reach, and other metrics that send marketers into a frothing idiotic frenzy. This also brought up a lot of looking into the 24/7 news cycle followed by the massive consolidation into exceedingly small groups of corporations, still mostly funded by those advertisers.
Theres a compelling argument to be made that it doesn't actually matter how prominent these things are as long as the *right* people think they are. Whether its outrage or sensationalism, people in positions of power whether its politicians, corporations or activists take these things seriously, and the argument that "normal" people don't actually engage with them all that much doesnt really matter because nobody who matters seems to actually care what "normal" people think ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
